I have always found that the leash walking comes in time...she's a puppy and running about sideways seems to settle down after a while. If she's growling at you taking things away from her then she doesn't respect you as pack leader. Start NILIF (nothing in life is free)...this means that she doesn't get anything (food, toy) without doing something for you first...like sitting. Don't let her rush through doorways or small spaces before you...if she goes to shut the door so she can't get through.

So sorry Warley

So good to know he's still doing well

Because you've created a dog who knows that if she refuses you'll put something different down. Dogs will not starve themselves to death. She's got you under control.

A few days of not eating because he's stubborn will not affect his growth. If you keep giving in to him and changing his food around, feeding treats, putting yummo stuff in there to make him eat etc. etc. be prepared to do it forever
-
OK, what I meant when I said make sure he sees you eat before he does, I meant before you feed him his meals. So you eat something before he gets his, even if it's just a little something. In the wild higher pack members eat before the lower ones. I taught both my dogs not to rush through doors by shutting in their faces before they got through...I had to be quick to avoid getting their noses! They would try a couple of times and each time the door would get shut in their face...then they'd get all confused and back off. When puppy backs off, open the door again, if he gets up to go through shut it again. Keep going until he stops. My guys learnt that pretty fast and they will now sit and wait for the door to open and for me to go through first. I'm sorry if I've read things wrong, but did you say that you're making him wait for his meals? By that I mean does he sit and wait until you give a release command to eat? My guys have to sit for their dinner and wait until I say "OK", they have now learnt to look at me and keep their eyes on me until I give that command. Your puppy is just a little tacker, so he's not going to get it straight away...start by holding his collar while you say wait and when he sits their quietly give a release command and let him go. Hope this helps

Some tips for dealing with dominant dogs, or any dog really when you're showing them their position in the pack...which should be LAST. Never let the dog rush through doors in front of you, always go first. Make sure the dog sees you eat before he gets anything of his own. Always make him do something for what he wants...sit for food, for his toy etc. etc. German Shepherd Dogs and Australian Cattle Dogs are working breeds, this is going to be a high energy dog! Is the puppy de-sexed? I'm guessing yes because you got him from the RSPCA, but if not please make sure he is done at 6 months otherwise those hormones will make things so much more difficult. Well done on teaching him what you have so far, stick around here you will learn so much

Don't hand feed him you'll form bad habits. Put the food down for 10 minutes, after 10 minutes pick it back up whether the dog has eaten or not. Don't feed the dog ANYTHING else until next meal time and try again. If you keep giving the dog other food to choose from and keep feeding treats between meals because you're worried about not eating he'll just keep refusing his dinner. He wont starve to death, and if he's been checked out by a vet he's just being stubborn...you just have to be more stubborn than him. When Daegon was a baby he starved himself completely for 5 days...yep, he didn't eat for that long. But I'm far more stubborn than he can ever hope to be and he soon realised that if he didn't eat what was put in front of him he would go hungry.

Ewwww!!! This thread is gross :D:rofl:

You can thank Max for that Look at that innocent face :D

Ohhh that's gross :D
-
I was having a stomach sensitive day, even faint smells were making me run to the toilet thinking I was going to puke. Doggy mess was NOT nice that day :D
-
Oh yes, I nearly puked when I found Daegon had left some, err, deposits, on my sleeping bag on the couch. I have warned him that if he starts ejaculating all over the place he will become an OUTDOOR doggy :D
-
Well see that's why I gave it the title "Penis question" because I KNEW that would get people at least looking...and I was worried so I wanted an answer and I wanted it fast. Worked :D
-
Um, I don't know, it's just...uh, lumpy :D I've just never seen it in my boys, even when they're excited it's not lumpy so I was worried maybe something was wrong with him. Glad to hear he's just a normal horny boy
-
OK, so I'm not too happy about having to ask this question, but I'll do it anyways :p Tonight after much persistance I was able to get my foster Rotty, Max, to lie calmly on his side...someone has never had to lie still in his life I don't think :D I was checking his stitches from being de-sexed, normally I have a quick look when he's already laying on the floor behaving but tonight he's being a raging loony so that wasn't going to happen At least the tip of his penis is a darkish red colour and appears lumpy. I've never seen this before, both my boys are pink and smooth. Ahem, this is awful Could there be something wrong, or are some dogs just different?

I can only imagine how hard it is for you right now, but I have been told that in time those funny little antics and those memories you have will become something that you smile over. Thinking of you all

How Do You Display Your Dogs Ribbons?
shekhina replied to MrsD's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I like the idea of making a wall hanging! Unfortunately I don't think Daegon will be winning any pretty ribbons in his lifetime Kovu would certainly have done extremely well in the show ring but that never happened. -
From what I've read/heard east west fronts can improve with maturity...as the chest drops it can push the legs out to straighten them up. Daegon was quite east west as a young puppy, but he is also straight in the shoulder, that will never go away altogether. His front has improved quite a lot since he was young, he only really stands east west now when he's being lazy...which is most of the time But when he self-stacks and has his attention on something he wants he comes perfectly straight. Daegon still has a lot of maturity to go according to his grandma who has the lines and knows them well, I've been told not to worry about him too much because he *should* come together, but it will be quite late...around 3-4 years old. She has a male very closely related to Daegon and he didn't finish changing until 4 years old. I will live in hope

Can you post a photo so we know what we're looking at please? He could be east west
