  1. Or maybe it was me:) If you look back at my previous posts you will read all about Trinta's allergies and how well she is doing on the injections. As others have said, not all dogs will respond so well but its certainly worth the try if it gives your dog even 50% relief. I believe you need to foolow the course exactly for the best results. Which blood test did you have done as the one we did (SPOT) gives you food allergies also. the test she had done just did inhaled allergens. my vet siad 'they' prefer skin test for other things. how acurate is the blood test for food allergies?? i would rather the blood test as my saint is just that kind of dog that needs 2.5kgs of food a day to keep her weight on, so the elimination diet is a bit scarey, espesially since it don't have a freezer! LOL Thanks every one, i have to talk it all over with the OH, but i will try to go the way of the injections.
  2. my Saint girl has been itchy since forever. i could have sworn it was a grass allergy as anicdotal evidance fully supported it. but the allergy blood test came back, diagnosing an allergy to Dust Mites and Ants. OK, firstly i will kill the ants in the back yard, does anyone know the name of the chemical that just a few drops will kill the whole nest? the Dust mites will be a bit harder, as one cannot get rid of them completely, as my reasearch has suggested so far, and i have ducted heating/cooling, which seems to be a major factor as well. so i want to look into the shots that are available to form an immunity to this particular allergen. Fistly, has anyone had experiance with this? and i have been given the name of an imone specialist vet in Perth in the past (i think) but that post is long gone now, does any Perthians know of one? Also, from my post in General, sas said this: so i am concidering an elimination diet to make sure its not a food allergy that is causing the reaction. i havern't don't this yet as she is a Saint and only two years old and the diet required does not seem balanced enough for a growing giant breed. but now her growing has slowed i might give it a go. My vet suggested the diet to be part meat, part carb (i cannot remember the actual ratio off hand) how is this Ca:P balanced? if it isn't, would it be advisable for a 2yo giant breed (she turns 2 next month) and how long can she be on this diet? and while i am at it: how does an allergy to ants work? the test was for inhaled allergens right? so not ant bites? if so then it would have recorded an allergy to bees aswell (definantly allergic to bees), correct? so she is inhaling ants and reacting to them? sorry for the jumble of ideas/questions, i am fuzzled at it all and the baby is winging as i type. but this is basically the gist of what isswimming in my head ATM. thanks this is my itchy bitch
  3. i always though it wasthe larger fish that were the issuewith metals and stuff. being that they have spent longer in the water to create a built up of these toxins.... but i am no expert, i just like stalking Willow
  4. Biker Mice From Mars! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWS-OiHxKto i di the buy as you go thing and it got very complicated an heard to keep track of balance and find bone hat iwas happy for her to eat. and plus feeding BARF to the pug aswell, i need it all ground up for him, coz he can eat chicken necks and bones but he can scoff then and make himself sick and choke.
  5. i know, can you imagine trying to explain that to the OH that earns the money?? LOL hense why feeding 2kgs of Dr B a day is out of the question. as ideal as it would be.
  6. new baby, OH works away, gym to get healthy and a house and two dog to keep up, not to mention a life and my family. i is time poor i made my own BARF for a long time, back when i have a freezer, and it was better then Dr Bs, if i don't say so myself. LOL but i just can do it ATM. and i am slowing himting that we need to get a freezer, but we need a place to put it now as there is a dryer where the old freezer was :D
  7. $20 a day? How big is your dog? Can't you make your own BARF diet? i don't have the freezer space, or the time :p shes is about 50kg, and quite skinny.
  8. i can do it on $7 a day, with 550g og Dr Bs and 1 kg od Chicken wings, but she is so skinny she needs to put good wieght on and so i would need to feed about 2kgs of quality food to put it on her. if i feed her 800g of i/d i would be looking at $8 a day. i will get a full blood work up at the vet today and see what her hormones are doing and, i doubt it, but fingers crossed there is a underlying hormone problem that is causing all her ongoing problems.
  9. Wrong! FP's & Dr B's are vastly different in terms of ingredients and quality of ingredients! It's not wise to purchase FP in the belief that it is as good as Dr B's - there is just not comparision in quality of ingredients. hmmm. i just can't aford $20 a day to feed her Dr Bs how are they different. i know FB don't pulverise the vegies nearly as much, and they don't have as much of the extra good that Dr B does, and the 1kg whole block of FB is mostly water (very disapointing!) but how else?
  10. itdoes say 'No preservative' on the packaging but i am not sure if they are bound to he same restrictions in relation to advertising as human foods are.
  11. my sickly Saint, Juggernaut, has been on 550gms or Dr Bs with 1kgs or Chicken wings for a while now, and she has been relatively fine, just really skinny, 3 weeks ago i changed her to 2kg of FP. since then she has started weeing in the house. she has only ever done this before when she has been ill, firstly an absess on her bladder and then when i had her on dry food and she was drinking so much and weeing what was basically water. BARF is BARF right? sure, the quality might change with price, but its still Billinghurst recipe, right? if it is the food, how could the new diet be effecting her so?
  12. yeah, i think he is a Local God around these parts
  13. as far as i know, brocolli has heaps of iron in it.
  14. i have told you about mine before, Willow, but will again because i am procrastinating you already know where i went and the nurse who ran the class. it was mostly a free for all, and Herbie learnt a huge value for other dogs rather than learning to mostly ignore them. and the info we got was "this is what your dog NEEDS, and it is exactly what we sell" there wasn't enough emphasis on desexing either, just a quick mention that the clinic does it and the costs.
  15. agreed. i used is only because i need to put wieght on my girl when she was 1yo(6 sugeries in 3 months really takes is out of a dog). but i wouldn't use it on a growing large dog.
  16. my older cat is like that .. sometimes he won't eat his chicken necks for dinner .. i tell him he will just have to go hungry and wait for breakfast as there is nothing else to eat! wow he isn't a happy chappy. you should see the frown he gives me!! cats can frown for sure! nasty beast they are. but i as much as i don't like them as a species, after two years, my boy is kinda growing on me.
  17. Dianne Grey cured me of my morning sickness as she is trained to heal people, but she prefers to work on animals. what she does is like Raiki, but istead of a weekend course, it took her 2 years to be qualified. http://www.animalhealing.com.au/index.htm
  18. Eagle pack has a protein %age of like 17%, but Royal Canin is 32%, i wouldn't feed the RC unless you were wanting to put wieght on the dog. i fed it to my Saint girl, coz she was so skinny, and it did put wirght on her, but dry food didin't agree with her. it it were between the two brands, i'd go with EP
  19. i would bother you for the address but wangara is tooooo far for me! Farrell road sounds great, may have to pay them a visit this saturday, will they be open??? A side question quickly ... if a cat is fussy and will only eat her raw meat every second day, then should i change her food or keep her on the same and she will eat when shes hungry? i really don't want to make her fussy! my 14yo cat has just changed to BARF patties, he was a bit iffy about it at first, but now he loves them, but at least one a week i give him a chicken neck instead, and he doesn't touch it... naturally he remains hungry until the next night. if he wasn't 14yo i would be more persistant in getting him to eat it, but i doubt you can teach and old cat new tricks
  20. you definantly don't want them growing quick... you want it slow and strong. i would recomend BARF, but if they prefer dry i would go with something lie Eagle Pack Large breed puppy. i havern't used this, but i hear great things about it and its protein %age.
  21. i just found a great place in Wangara... but i'm not sharing
  22. its a bit far for you, but i cannot recomend Adrian Burstein at Ocean Keys Vet Hospital enough. He's in Clarkson.
  23. I now feed a chicken frame in the morning with a 2x4 dog bikkie when I go to work, then raw and kibble at night. From what you're saying, I would be better to change this around to put the frame with the raw at night, and feed the kibble in the morning (with the bikkie)? yep, just swap it around. the dog wont care.
