thanks all for ur input im off to google dog bikkie ingredients, see wot i find. reason i was feeding her barf with bikkies was cos i have family members saying "but wont she miss out on the vitamins and minerals that dog food has?" which got me worried. but nowadays i keep the dog biscuits handy cos sometimes i forget to thaw a tub of mince for theire dinner, so at least i can have something yummy to go with their egg, chicken necks, heart peices etc

at the moment i have put O-ren on SuperCoat Active, she seems to like it, i dont think she really neeeeds the extra energy these supply but i figured she is a VERY active dog and these would have the added minerals and vitamins to supplement her barf diet WHICH is working reallllllllllllllly well btw i was thinking of askin fellow dolers wot dry bikkies they reccommended for a active border collie??? there are multiple brands out there and all priced differently, Supercoat was like the 2nd most expensive brand in Woolies, but i was thinking cost means nothing really. i would like to buy it in bigger bags too- as i have seen in Petbarn, they have HUGE bags of bikkies which i think would be cheaper inthe long run which is much better for my budget anyway, regardless, i would like to read on some DOL opinions onto which brand of bikkies they have used/use etc??? egs that i know of include Science HIlls, Optimum, Eukanuba, etc etc i give o-ren almost a cup (cup size 250ml) of these bikkies with her mince/egg/chicken/lamb etc barf concoction- wotever is on the menu that night she isnt a big eater so im especially happy to find she has adapted to this new diet verrry well in fact her coat is looking v.shiny and i even suspect her dermatitis (suspected Poison Oak allergy) seems to be LESS effecting her ANYWAY, il really love to hear from you guys, thanks

What are ppls thorts on this product, can you tell me of your methods of usage and how you feel it helps? from wot ive learnt its primarily a human calm-er, but very useful for animals also. am i right in generalising this product as a sort of anti-anxiety kind of thing??? what kind of situations would you use it for your dog?

from my boilogy learning at uni the dogs gut is not physically or chemically developed to process vegies like ours

i too am a total novice at this doggy dieting atm O-ren is loving it! her coat is alot better and her activity levels, well they were always in overdrive anywayz! but i have noticed a BIG improvement of their breath- much better breath! stools are less smelly too :D a few chicken necks of a morning prime mince and about 1.5cup of dry bikkies + il add an egg or some left over vegies, for dinner they also get a meaty bone around 'lunch time' which keeps them occupied and their breath nice have tried yoghart, O-ren wasnt a big fan QUESTION: how important is the vegies part of their diet? or would she be getting enuff from the vegie content in the bikkies QUESTION 2: raw or cooked vegies??? is cooked bad or just not AS good as raw? EGG QQUESTION: raw? boiled? fried? which is better?????????? thanks once again for introducing me to barf etc, so much cheaper and is really working for us!

Teaching The "leave" Command

Are you secretly the 'other' mum of O-ren?? cos your bitch sounds like O-ren, only nowadays she is SOOO focused on the ball or stick she wont let ANYTHING take her eyes off it, including moving out of the way of my hands if i reach out to her GRRRRRR she simply dodges and sits aside ready for me to throw.. prob make a good flyball gal, she is OBSESSIVE.. i know wot u mean about the OHs secret control... O-ren will do as he wishes STRAIGHT away he doesnt even have to add tone or authortity... its my fault... i give her all the affection and stuff so she knows how to play 'cute' with me and disobey ;) ;) -
i wish to start O-ren on flyball... Riley can vouch that wen a ball is involved NUFFINK can distract her... she even forgets to guard my chair from sniffing canines LOL i mainly wanna do it for fun and social reasons too

my Ohs dogs are desexed and they pee without cocking but when marking a tree they cock!!! i hope Onyx never cocks!

was at our local markets buying new bags for the dog beds... and found a bc x pup ;) lady had 8 dogs and 3 litters of average of 4-6 pups (omigod) apparantly unplanned. he is border collie cross stumpy tail cattle dog he looks like a fluffy border collie with a 2inch tail looks like an inverted panda
-
I have a bc x pup male that is only about 4-6wks maximum... when should i start trying to train him to go when i tell him...i.e put him outside to wee??? whilst he is young i was considering puttin him in a indoor litter tray- and train him to crawl into that?? what are your thoughts? should i start now? its tough because you cant tell with boys- they just stand there, and next you know your foot is soaked when u stand in it!

cool thanks for that rachii i think i will be puttin O-ren back on that diet.. raw mince is much better $$$ then tin dog food eg. PAL
-
i was told raw mince was not sooo great for pups as it doesnt contain all the extra minerals vitamins etc that other dog food has...?

Working Kelpies/ Bordercollies
O-Ren replied to wally2020's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi, great thread btw! i have a bc, she is 18months now... i am training her basic commands... she has picked them up well seens as she had NO training whatsoever (was a "lapdog" for her previous owner) but im having trouble with stay, and her recall is okkkk, though we dont havge much experience when there are others (canines or ppl) about ... it gets pretty lonely out here! I think once i manage to get complete control over her in most situations- it would be great to see how she goes at some of these things... she is a fetch, and jump-n-catch addict with anything you throw so she loves to be active 24/7 see my sig fer her smiling face! -
Hi, thanks for this- i was only thinking recently that i wanted to teach oren this. what do i do if oren doesnt respond to the food in my hand??? she is very attentive to me when im teeachin- and maintains eye contact rather then watchin my treat hand. i will try in the mornin anyway, see how she goes i have only just taught her to laydown. but now if i say sit- she sits then lies down straight away too- how do i say for her to get up and sit without having her jump at me? (if i say UP she jumps up from lying position, then i have to say sit agin?!) sorry for the mini hijjac- i just wanna know how to master these steps b4 attempting rollover again
