  1. Yes everyone says that they are being 'humnised' and dontfeel guilt BUT when the dog creeps in from outside with THAT look the first thing you do is go out there to find out what they dog has done (even by accident) and 9 times out of 10 there will be something that the dog has knocked over, damaged, moved, basically done something it shouldnt have.
  2. Is there anything that beeps at night (you havent got a new phone recently)? Any odd sounds? You dont have one of those electronic things that is suppose to keep bugs away or anything similar? Our dog has and still does really really freak out when the smoke alarm needs its batteries changed. You'll wake up to the dog panicing over something and then eventually the alarm will beep and she jumps literally the whole dog shudders and wants to get outside away from it before it does 'something'.
  3. Corvus perhaps read through again- you knlow how girls mention getting a sore throat from screaming at concerts? Well you can also strain your voice yelling at vicious dogs who are charging at you and your dog. Which is what i have done and the nose has reacts to the sore throat. Its not an illness its a strain plus a reaction. Wouldnt have happened if the owner could control her dog aggressive animals. Its similar to getting hayfever plus the strained voice (sore throat). What would you do stand there and let two dogs attack your own dog and then have to pay up the vet bills (being a sunday just add more expense) then try and get the other owner to pay? Or was it I didnt mention it was a SWF and staffy x - the SWF was the leader the other just followed but went further and got close enough to lunge at my dog who was under my control on a short lead.
  4. Council has been pretty good in the past with email contact - they usually then give you a direct line to call rather than the general one on the website. We should be moving out of this area soon so at least thats something.
  5. Thanks for the advice - will try the salt later. The throat lozenge worked briefly but seems to help if I dont talk too!! Yes there are plenty of yarads that have dogs barking along inside the house or the yard but they are secure so that isnt a problem - even the odd one that tries to come out and has an owner doing something proactive before it gets anywhere near the path or puts thm on a lead or something. There are a group of friendly dogs most alot younger than ours that are often at the park but the owners are responsible and the way the young ones bounce over is completely different from the ones that rushed out. I think what also annoyed me was the fact the owner didnt even react just glared at me til I left (I did glare at her but just couldnt think of what to say without going off at her). And now we have to change where we walk too which is a shame as that road was quite handy and easy to walk down.
  6. Yes sent an email off yesterday afternoon - what if someone came past who was not confident enough to see them off. And the first dog has charged out at us before butonly a couple of yells and it backed off but didnt have a frind then
  7. Out walking yesterday and had two dogs rush out of a residence and charged at my own dog. Yelled enough to drive one off and then had to yell again and ultimely kick the second one away from my dog at the last second before it connected. And then more yelling when it came back again. Eventually owner came out and yelld at dogs herself and they finally went back from wherever they came. All good? well no as I had been yelling and snarling back at these dogs for a while by the afternoon my throat was quite scratchy and voice raspy. Today due to actually having to talk through the day at work I've now got the very sore throat and nose running (like when you get hayfever). So now hoping with taking throat lozenges and trying not to talk that the pain and nose actually clears up and doesnt go and get a lot worse (or develop into something). Cant even walk the dogs as doing physical exercise would probaly not be all that good for trying to calm the inflamed area down. All because someone could not contain their dog aggressive dogs.
  8. OK so its likely the one I saw which wasnt overweight had probably been used for breeding
  9. Just wondering - and it may seem a basic question but Im not around many entire female dogs - is it only the only that are used for breeding that are likely to have pronounced teats hanging underneath them or is that just what happens when female that are undesexed get older?
  10. Well i had thought it was a slow news day due to other news items but this one takes the cake - inaccurate (ala the cats needing meat) and just a veiled ad for whoever they quoted. Its a bit like how a massive percentage of teh population apparently want to live in little dog boxes and not have backyards yet the main suppliers of the info for those ads/stories is .... wait for it..... building companies that make the dog box townhouses!!!
  11. The other day I looked at the RSPCA SA site - what was I faced with on their home page? Ban this ban that support Kev (WTF?) and Ban something else just like an activist organisation. It some time to workout where the naimals were listed that were looking for pet homes. This (rehoming animals) I thought was suppose to be the main idea of the RSPCA not their big budget activist campaigns. Looking at the Animal Welfare League just showed the glaring difference between them even more yet both were apparently set up to rehome animals that had nowhere to go.
  12. Its a shame that there seems no way to educate people about dogs - there was alater report that explained why the dog went into the house. The family members were either leaving or were outside and they ran to get away from teh dog. Now dog owners we shoudl know the worst thing to do is runfrom any dog you dont want to follow you but so many inthe community these days are scared of dogs any dogs and will just run not knowing that it can trigger the chase (let alone increase aggression). I've heard of how to act around strange dogs taught in schools but its something that may need to be taught to the wider area of the general public.
  13. The fire alarm - when it start chirping for a battery change the dog freaks. This is at its worst at 2am when its chirping every now and again and the dog comes to wake you up as she is freaking out and jumping everytme it goes. Even when you kill the sound she's a nervous wreck for sometime. Only time she freaked at a thunderstorm was when it took out foxtel so tv when quiet after this massive crack of thunder and then the dog next door let out this blood curling cry (horror movie style all three in sequence) and the dog tried to get comfort fro mme when I didn't react how she wanted she bolted upstairs to find OH to 'save' her. Left me to face the 'monster'
  14. I guess any treatment could be thought of that way (even non medical stuff like deer antler) but old dogs also tend to have regular blood tests and regular vet checks to notice any other issues.
  15. As in?? Our dog has a course every 6 months and it helps her back legs. why would there be a problem with ongoing injections?
  16. But have they confirmed that the dog got it from the horse or not - all the info til now said it had to go through a horse BUT viruses mutate and thats the problem. To say oh well stay away from horses and keep them away from the trees and its all good is not thinking ahead to what happens if it didnt come from the horses. And what they get stressed and instantly their body emit virus but in a group left in a tree it doesnt - that sounds a bit odd and from reports its not like they make no mess until they are 'stressed'.
  17. No you cant quaratine the bats but you can cull the ones straying from their 'native habitat' into populated areas - apparently the fruit growers had done that in the past and the bats stayed away probably back in the wild but once they were stgopped from culling one or two whole colonys moved into areas they hadnt been before. And now that natural disaster has driven them into areas where people live still cannot see why they are not culled like kangaroos and other natives that wander into to towns and cities.
  18. Thing is apart from bats (and think it would take a lot longer than 'days' to come back to a populated area after a cull) any animal that is positive is dead - its a death sentence via DPI so none of this 'its only a risk to me' you dont have a choice they just kill domestic animals but wont touch any bats. Its already been mentioned that th ebasts are stressed due to lack of food due to natural disaster and have moved into populated areas. Much like Kangaroos do and they are culled if they start to overpopulate so cannot see why kangaroos are culled but bats posing a deadly threat are left to cause more issues. No one is saying cull the ones in their natural habitat only the ones that have come into populated areas. Mrs rusty bucket - dont confuse Lyssavirus that the bats generally carry with hendra virus. The ones here are not known for hendra only the ones up in Qld and northern NSW - they havent mentioned testing bats at all in SA etc. Lyssavirus is nasty apparentrly but not a death sentence for other animals as hendra is
  19. The best way to judge the light needed is the light meter in the viewfinder - if thats in the centre you shoudl be fine. A little either side shoud be fine but too far and it will be under or over. If the light goes to the 2 mark on eithe rside tghe exposure is completely out.
  20. So how do they know that if they cull all that stuff will happen - has it been tried? on another forum someone knew fruit grower who use to cull one or two bats and the rest of the colony would go elsewhere since they have not even been able to do that the colonys just move on in. But for those who lose their pets how is it fair and the bats they wont even test one or even one colony to see whats going on and if they are infected. They cull kangaroos when they become too prolific in populated areas why are bats so different? And as for ecosystem how did it go on before they appeared in populated areas and how does the rest of the country handle it if the bats are the one and only important creature in it. Somewhere it was mentioned the animals are put down due to national policy in regard to disease but how are the bats immune from this. I just dont think killing horses and dogs and whatever else ends up proving positive and hoping for the best for humans while watchign the bats go by is all that fair - to those on ths board how would you feel if your pets were positive and DPI said they were going to kill them all no matter how healthy they seemed. Think of it from that direction.
  21. I heard he was worth it to listen to what he had to say. Since Sa missed out last time decided I was going - but then Im happy to just be entertained!
  22. Pretty sure as it started at 3pm today it goes til 3pm tomorrow. However by now you may get better tickets on Thursday morning if buying two or more it seems
  23. SOunds good alfie 02 - I'd never ever leave a dog an entire. I've seen what can happen in older male dogs with adanodes? Benign growths under and around the tail that ulcerate so you have to put a 14yo in for an operation to remove them then have them on female hormones - far easier to desex and avoid that issue ever happening. Let alone the chance of wandering, being stolen for breeding, etc.
  24. Wouldnt that be lyssavirus (or however its spelt) they carry that carers need the vaccination for - they wont test them for the hendra virus. And whats better culling bats in populated areas of killing horses, dogs and letting people who get infected die. Someone with connections to the fruitgrowers up there commented how ever since the fruit growers couldnt cull one or two bats that were spotting for the rest they now have colonys setting up and destroying crops - prior to that they went elsewhere (probably back out to the bush where they hurt no one and no domestic animals). When there is plagues of others things like locusts, rabbits, mice etc they are happen to try and eliminate them but as bats are seen as 'cute' they arent considered worth dealing with - better to kill pets as they are tested positive and hope any humans dont get it.
  25. Youve got to access the presale page probably on bio or chugg and click the link from there - you cant access it via ticketek direct for the presale. And you need the password from that site (the link).
