Rough Coats and broken coats require hand stripping... Try not to use a stripping knife to much as it can take undercoat as well if used incorrectly, although it is definitely easier on the hands and quicker! . Avoid using a marrs comb to often as again can take undercoat. Jacks have double coats so you must maintain the undercoat. Use a stripping knife on legs and on the knees of front legs, tidy up with thinning scissors. trim around feet with normal scissors and long hairs between toes, keeps the pad close and tidy. remove long hairs from the ears, define the stop on the head use fingers. use thinning scissors to define any other area's, ie neck, bum behind, sternum, underbelly and any other areas. Don't forget the flag on tail must be removed and tail neatened. I use thinning scissors as I find they leave the neatness finish and avoids cut marks. The best way to get a jack looking in show condition is to do a bit each one to two weeks in order to keep 'turning' the coat. also don't forget jacks are meant to be in Natural Coat, so a rough is not meant to look like a broken and a broken is not meant to look like a smooth. And RuralPug is correct, you don't want your jack looking like a fox terrier..avoid looking at usa groomed jacks as they use a different technique to us in Au. hope this has helped a bit :)

Hi I am a JRT breeder and a pup the age of yours I would feed pretty much what you are feeding now. But I do tend to feed a couple of necks at lunch or two wings, they always seem hungier at lunch time, burning a lot of morning energy playing. Also another factor to consider as to why your puppy could be gutsy is how many litter mates she had and whether they were all feed together up until the time you got her . She would have learned early to eat quickly so as not to miss out on her dinner! Don't know where you feed her now but jacks can be quite possessive and if she thinks that there is any change at all of your other dog being able to get her dinner she will gulp it down for fear he might be going to take it. It may help to feed her in a seperate room with the door shut and see if that helps her. Jacks learn very quickly and once she realises that her food isn't going any where she should low down a bit. However in saying that you can have jacks that just like their tucker and will always eat fast and look at you as if they are starving! I have a couple here that just enjoy eating! hope this helps a bit. Mindura

jack puppys can get very rough in play and look as though they are really fighting, as long as one does not appear to being bullied, they are most likely fine. are they litter sisters, i have found that jrt litter sisters can have a tendency to fight as adults. Seperating them for time during the day will benefit both of them, and try to give each one some one on one attention, so that they learn to bond with you and simply do not develop a pack dog mentilty with each other.
