House train your young dog along the same lines as you would house train a young pup. Supervise, watch and be ready to take your dog outside at the times when toiling is likely. And keep watching in between times. Training your dog to like a crate, and then being able to use the crate as a friendly training aid will assist you no end. And whilst you're at the house-training, you need to teach your dog that "being inside = being calm". To do that, it takes control (crate or on-lead) and consistency. If you let her be hectic inside the house (whether you mean to or not) then you're teaching (inadvertently or otherwise) her that being hectic is ok. Start as you mean to finish - be calm and assertive yourself and take control. Does that help you? Do you know how you would house-train a pup? I didn't go into that side of things in case it is something you are already aware and/or familiar with. But if not, ask away. There are a lot of people here besides me who will be able to provide you with information, advice and direction pertaining to toilet training :).

Anxiety/stress can affect stool composition. Does this thought marry in with the times his stooles are less than optimum?

I'm not sure I understand your "lol" Oakway. Sorry if I'm being a bit dull. Your link advertises wax carvers. The eBay vendor I bought from advertised teeth scalers but sent me wax carvers. . I'll contact the vendor and tell him or her "not acceptable" but want to first check that they aren't one nd same. The wax carvers don't seem to have the 'edge' on them thatvid expect for teeth scalers - they seem too rounded and too thick. But Im no expert nd haven't had them before.

As per the title ..... I bought what was advertised as teeth scrapers - a 12 piece set. It arrived today but the pouch it comes in says it is a set of 12 wax carvers. Are these things one and the same or have I been duped?. I don't want to use anything other than good quality stuff and the right stuff on my dog's teeth.

No, I don't think it is normal. I'm not a vet nor a canine nutritionist but I'm thinking it could be the beginnings of a reaction to something in the diet. Perhaps not. Look up leaky gut - id check up on it on the Internet before I'd posted here but I'm without a computer ATM.

Mandela can have a poop that is semi-solid filled by a bit of liquid poop - in the one same motion. His poops go from solid to sloppy as well.

Regards having almost convinced myself that it is not likely to be a root abscess, he'll pick up a ball and chew on the back molars - both sides, without exhibiting any sign of pain. Regards the calculus under the gum - what you've written is also what I've read and heard. I guess my strong reluctance is the use of GA when I've been working so long and trying so hard to get his system to work properly. We still have problems, but the system seems to be working better and stronger and I've been so hung back in not wanting to upset that side of things. But I know that one thing can lead to another. It would be great if a general was not required for this kind of work, but there ya go. And go ahead and rant - a rant is always a good thing when you have the welfare of another being at your heart :).

That was my first thought as a suggested possibility. We tend to look for things we can see, and forget about other things. ETA: The scent can be from something she ate; from her home environment (eg. cigarette smoke) etc.

I expect you'll notice if he is cold, but generally speaking, if he has a good, warm shelter that is draft free to go into (and assuming he's happy to use it) a coat is most likely not necessary. Lol - and most of our dogs are smarter than us, :laugh:.

It's the short and single coated variety that tend to need coats for warmth during the cold months/nights, RiverStar-Aura. Not so much the hairy variety :).

I have the pattern and Megs made my boy's for me, but she's not doing them with legs in anymore. I want some also for the summer - in cool sweat stuff that breaths, to protect my dog from mozzie bites which he tends to get when we visit my folks or go to other places outside of suburbia.

I'd wait, if I were you. Plus, you want to make sure that what you do is going to be in keeping with the program that Mark schedules for you. Nothing worse than doing something and then finding out that what you were doing did or had the potential to make matters worse. Maybe you'll do it right. Maybe it will be the best thing for Justice. But no-one can advise you of that. Your call, really.

Thanks, Saxonpup. I do my best to not yell or growl or act fierce towards other dogs in the presence of another that is afraid of other dogs. I want the dog I'm handling to observe me and 'take a leaf' so to speak. BUT, if I think the approaching dog is an aggressor, I'll do what it takes to block it from reaching the dog I'm handling and if growling/yelling is what it would take, then I guess I'd go down that track.

It may begin to get him into the voluntary (ie his decision) of realising and appreciating that if he brings the tug to you, you'll immediately start the game again. Once *addicted* to this game and with any thought of his prior *keep away* activity weakened through extinction , you might find him realising there's more reward in bringing the tug back to you. This is how Mandela learnt to bring back to me. Mind you, he never has had the opportunity to learn *keep away* and this was made easy by the fact that his heart breaks if I shut him out.

Lol - there are benefits to having a 'clingy' dog. But I wonder if it would bother your dog if the area he was left in was otherwise barron and boring ??

And a regular dip of the paws in Calendula Tea. Not so often that the paws don't get a chance to dry - perhaps once or twice a day (depending on how bad the yeast infection is) as well as every time the paws get wet. Pat dry - especially in between the pads/toes. I agree with Showdog - check the ears. That's a good point. If the ears are ok, just a general wipe around the outer part of the ear with "Ear Clear" (from Natural Animal Solutions) is what I'd do and use. I have actually syringed Calendula Tea to my dog. It's not a bad taste and he takes it without a struggle. The benefits of drinking the Calendula Tea is that it apparently strengthens the lining of the stomach. I'm unable to attest as to whether the Calendula being imbibed did much or anything for my dog as his issues are complex and there are so many other things that could be merited with his improvement when he shows it. However, I can attest to the great use I've had with Calendula on skin infections.

He doesn't care that you will finish the game, go inside and leave him locked outside if he plays "keep-away" (with a tug he's not into chewing)?
