The Beginning Of The End
arawnhaus replied to Herr Rottweiler's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I could be wrong, however I believe this may have been the case that led to the amendments in the law to cover anything worn or attached to a person. I recall reading a similar comment from the magistrate regarding the increased training level making the dog more stable therefore not a dangerous dog. -

Welcome to dogz CM, Great post. -
Perhaps it Could be a medical Issue?

It's best to take cautionary methods around ALL ANIMALS.All Canines are different.Including Breeds of Dogs, some are friendly some are not. To say a breed is safe is stupid. To say a Breed is Unsafe is stupid.

Quote mum 2 emma, Let's face it - it's the same argument truck drivers use when defending their behaviour on the roads. "But the Hyundi driver was driving eratically too!". But what the semi driver conveniently ignores is the fact if HIS dangerous driving caused, for example, a rear end collision, his truck could run over the top of a car and kill 6 passengers inside. Whereas if a Hyundi ran into the rear of another car, it would only leave a damaged bumper bar! You are not a Small breed owner by any chance are you?......... Very Black and white........

Re: Training And The Law In Vic

Ness, Yes maybe not reward tugging your jumper.I think allowing this will lead the pup to unintentional problems later on.If you have a mouthy puppy and don't show boundaries on yourself, then as it grows older the dog may not process you are the handler and can be serious, especially when you want compliance.I'm sure the dog would want to but could get caught between understanding why it should. and as already said others will become a target to.Ever been caught accidently by the skin? Now that is ouchy! -

"i Am Not Doing This To Please Anyone!"

Ok Taken this bit to quote...whilst just doing the dishes I was thinking.... Humans do something for another human to PLEASE the recipient of whatever is being done. Fine... How do we KNOW the recipient is pleased? They smile, they say ,thankyou, they may hug us, or jump for joy.... all very visible signs which are the 'giver' /doer's' REWARD Is this then SO different from a dog sitting quietly, because it thinks that by doing so we will say "good dog", or pat it, or some other tangible reward? ..........thinking.... but cannot find the right word combinations *goes back to thinking* The part of that post you quoted, goes in context with the other half of it.He is trained/conditioned whatever for that Individuals situation(the handler). The dog gets a reward from following a task by way of praise or toy, food. It is not doing it for "free". IMO When dogs sit quitely, they are resting. -

I over hear that a lot, " my dog does it to make me happy,my dog wants "his" toy because he wants to show off" A dog is a dog is a dog. Not a human, not a toy but an ANIMAL. It's not too difficult to work out but yet it is for some. When did Canines become so predictable? If the dog has a well thought out method of forsight then that dog is REALLY special. They know what we want, and we know it's done for only our benefit. Clever us. I don't know really, but IMO a dog does something for satisfaction,it gains a positive result by listening and listens with training/conditioning/repetition which ever one applies to the Individuals situation. A Canine who does nothing for itself and everything for it's owner, I don't buy it. Like us,we have our drives to satisfy and so do our dogs. -
Best food? Whatever your dog eats well and keeps healthy on.

Ouch, what a painful experience.Only time and supervised play, lots of praise and really time. Teach the puppy not to do that anymore unless you want more vet bills.Puppy needs boundaries.

delkerabo. please add, -
Yep same here,just raw.
-
could I ask you which brand you use? I'd love to find something raw, ready to go and not too expensive... Doing my own at the moment but I find it a bit time consuming and messy, and would rather spend this time training or playing rather than pulping vegies with my small blender! Yeah its much better then doing it yourself here is there website http://www.caninecountry.com.au/ they have lots of great stuff. They make there food themselves and is cheap as 1kg is $3.25 and if you buy 10 1kg packets it's $30.00 they have a huge range from roo to turkey. They also have bulk bone products, nothing dodgy people quality food. ETA: Woops sorry don't know if you live around the brisbane area as thats where they are located. But I'm sure if you ask in the Health / Nutrition / Grooming forum someone will help you out. Wow that's a great site, anybody know if there is a similar place in Vic?

arawnhaus replied to arawnhaus's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh wow, answers! Thanks everybody.I think I have him doing the right amount. -
We don't have a pool at all near us within basically 2hrs drive,so ours use a port.Roughly what distance do you swim your large breeds. Not in terms of laps but actual distance? Just curious to work out if I'm going enough. Thanks. Edited to ad, Distance wise 450-500 metres for one of ours twice weekly.

How Do You Give Your Dog Tablets?
arawnhaus replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well mine DETECT anything that is hidden.I put the tab at the start of the throat, close the mouth with the muzzle up and massage under the muzzle gently to comfort, then slide my hand down massaging the throat encouraging the reflex to swallow on the outer of the throat. -
Yoghurt is GREAT for dogs.Mine get the Natural and the flavoured stuff we eat.
