  1. I was a breeder of pedigree dogs for over 15 years and I am aware of the time and effort that goes into breeding a quality dog whose lines I was very proud of. I was also quite comfortable with advertising my price, i think it's important to be up front so that people who can not afford this price range do not have to waste their time or mine with an application that is a dead end. I was also happy to put my phone number on the ad, I am of the generation who liked to speak to people rather than read an often well rehearsed email. This site now has breeders that want one to complete a puppy application for a pup that may not be the price, sex, size or colour I want. And if I am looking at a companion for the next 15 years, and am paying well for that companion, then I believe I also have the right to information before I started telling you whether I own, rent, work, my vets details and all of the other information I would otherwise be happy to disclose AFTER I know what's on offer. By phone that is.
  2. I have just started my search for a pup or older dog for a pet, and started here. I do not like the new format for dogzonline listings or the convoluted way I have to jump through hoops just to contact a breeder to even find out the cost of a dog or pup, which is very important. I think everyone has a budget, no? I understand the need for a breeder to want information on a prospective buyer, but honestly I don't want to poor out my whole life story if the price is out of my reach. It's just gone stupid No wonder other online markets are popular
  3. I read this article last night and wish I didn't, although it did come with a warning. I can't get the horror out of my head. I just wonder how many other people breed dogs and treat them with such incredible cruelty. The ones that haven't been caught. It is beyond sad. I agree @tdierikx, how could you still work there.
  4. Reds, apricot, brown and cream all fade to some degree. Black also, although sometimes this is just around the face. I have 2 toy poodles, both were dark red as pups with black points. One is now still a 'good' red, while the other is closer to cream. Both have a full breed profile with Orivet and the genetic colour make-up for both is the same. Some breeders claim that there pups carry the non fading gene. It's BS. I think there is testing for a Rufus gene in the US. I don't know much about it. If the colour really matters to you, its best to check out sire and dams current coat and see how its changed. That's still only an indication. I believe the standards hold the red colour better than toys and minis, but since I've never owned one that's not from my experience.
  5. So very heartbreaking. I cannot understand what laws would have prevented the RSPCA from doing anything for the 3 years they were aware of this immense cruelty. An out of court settlement is a joke. How can this not deserve jail is beyond me.
  6. A week ago my beautiful little Bonnie crossed the rainbow bridge, she was nearly 4 years old. She was hit by a car coming into our rural driveway. Im told it was instant thankfully. The thing is, this car comes in at the same time every day, I usually secure the dogs inside after their afternoon play, but that day, I was distracted. My guilt is awful. I'm so lucky to have 4 other dogs, all different personalities but precious all the same. They're getting extra affection. Bonnie was my velcro dog, always on me or with me. She loved chasing and fetching balls more than anything. And yes, she loved chasing cars. We buried her under my favourite gum trees, where I will one day have my own ashes spread There was a beautiful double rainbow the afternoon of her passing, my daughter said - That's Bonnie I miss her terribly. Farewell my Bon
  7. I wouldn't call a dog of that age a pup. You already have 6, so obviously want a breeding girl.
  8. The market is completely saturated at present. Vets tell me pups are coming back for third vaccinations and all breeds are having difficulty being sold. Rescues are at peak levels. This will remain the case for a long time until the status quo is restored. As mentioned, Cavaliers have many health issues and are banned in some countries. You should be aware of this as a vet I would have thought. They have been very over bred and cheap. Will you have time for all that is involved in rearing pups and then potentially being unable to home them? I think any breeder would love to know of a breed they could be guaranteed to sell pups from in the current market. Off my soap box - I believe the dog you breed should be the breed you actually love.
  9. I have a pregnant toy girl and would like some advice as to what people are feeding. I currently feed mostly puppy biscuits as recommended by the vet but would like to transition her over onto fully/mostly raw. If any breeders are feeding a similar diet to their girls would you kindly advise what you are giving them Thanks
  10. What a beautiful story of a life of love from you. Sending hugs x
  11. While there are definitely more listings, note they are mostly male, or people advertising matings. It is hard to get a toy poodle female. While am not promoting Gumtree, it is a good indication of current price 'trends', since the prices are actually listed.
  12. We took on an older rescue dog earlier this year. (We are in Qld). I made contact with our vet and she was able to lookup the microchip to let us know what company the little one was registered with. We then made contact with that company and just had to complete a statutory declaration. Apparently they then attempt to contact the registered owner and if there is no reply in 3 weeks the dog could be transferred to us, which is what occurred.
  13. I suppose if you are not doing anything wrong you should have no fear of anybody coming to inspect.
  14. For what it's worth we owned two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels many years ago and I remember that they would eat anything and everything in sight. Definitely not fussy eaters. Can you let us know if you went to the vet and how you went?
  15. Very normal to pay cash at pick-up. All should be outlined in your contract. I wouldn't buy or sell without one.
  16. Just revisiting this thread following a chat with an old school friend who now lives in North Qld. She and her neighbour have a business together breeding cross bred poodles. (Oodles of some sort) They mate their females on the second season, and then breed for five consecutive seasons before speying the female. She claims the females have very even numbered litters, have no problems, and are under 5 years old when they can be rehomed. I KNOW we I cannot do this under our ANKC rules. And not planning on it. I just thought it was interesting. We bred beef cattle for many years and the cow had a calf once a year, was pregnant for 9 months, and was still feeding her big calf when impregnated again. One has to wonder why well nourished dogs are any different?
  17. Pet insurance is there for this reason. I believe it is about $30 a month. Very affordable.
  18. @asal its off subject for this post but to answer you, we only have to DNA parentage verify pups we are registering on mains here in sunny Qld
  19. You seem to have posted a lot lately in this forum and reading back through all of your post you clearly want to be a breeder of toy poodle dogs. Why not just say that to start with? Some very experienced people on this forum have explained quite clearly the suggested way to go to achieve this. IF you want to breed pedigree pups. Read the replies again. The purchase price of a dog is entirely up to you. What do you want to spend, and what is it worth to you? Breeders can easily ask more for mains, and they get it. If you want the pup you will have to pay it. It doesn't really matter if anybody else here thinks it is fair or not. But, If you think these inflated prices for pups are going to continue, you are fooled. They were inflated due to a matter of supply and demand during lockdown, but this will even out and turn the other way. Every second person sees these prices, wants to be a breeder now, and thinks it's easy money. So there will be many many more puppies bred, less buyers, less money. Breeding is a lot of work, it is a lot of heartache, and it is very expensive, particularly when things don't go to plan. Good luck "Mikey"
  20. So to be a registered breeder with the ANKC, one must join their state body. (E.g. Dogs Qld. Dogs NSW etc) then sit an exam and apply for a prefix (kennel name) These are the breeders that you find advertised on this site - Dogzonline. That breeder must own a mains registered male and a mains registered female (obviously of the same breed) they can then breed that pair of dogs and register the puppies and provide pedigree papers to their puppy buyers. There are of course rules regarding breeding which are all listed in the relative States codes of ethics
  21. I am pleased to advise we seem to have finally turned a corner. Three vet visits later. Vet had attempted to put a drip into 3 different legs which was probably difficult at the time as he was dehydrated. One spot became infected. He is on topical antibiotics as well as internal and had has first big weight gain yesterday. 35g which is major as he was only holding at 610g
  22. His 2 sisters are little balls of energy. Race every where and are rough with him. He just sits quietly. He is getting around a bit and eats a bit of mince and I have introduced cooked chicken breast. I syringe water just to ensure he is drinking something. He did a small, say half teaspoon poo this afternoon. It was dark black but soft. No weight gain though
  23. I do follow a couple of the FB sites that post stories of dogs that have apparently reacted to flea and tick meds. Seizures seem to be the most common reaction. The group's are also fully against vaccinations also which is concerning to me.
