I know at OHs work as his boss only has poodles, and we have lowchen and lakies its a limited number of classes we can enter in a comp as breeds have certain eligibility classes we tend to swap dogs around or thru the salon they source clients who have suitable dogs and in return bath and dry the dog for free in the lead up. we ask around to friends as well. I'm lucky as my boss breeds and owns a few breeds so I can source suitable dogs from the kennels.. I'm borrowing a schnauzer and my girls half sister from her :)

yep agree to this totally dogs who are used for ANY type of grooming comp are very much used to the process simply due to the hrs of prep work done in advance I know I spent about 2hrs with breaks starting to prepare my mini schnauzer for an upcoming comp and that was a wash, dry, deknot and trim and clip of hygiene areas as hemust have 6-8 weeks ggrowth on him. now its just the weekly task of washing, drying and combing him out.. I still have my second dog to get started on. bur basically before you even start thinking about grooming comps you must have a dog who is easy to please and groom as any kind of "rough housing" or handling can see you out the comp... even swearing or name calling your dog is frowned upon..so dogs that we use are bomb proof happy dogs who love the attention or atleast tolerate it and they do get toilet breaks during the comp. nothing inhumane about that dog the dye will eventually wash or grow out like people hair dye.. and this dog would be very much used to the process of being groomed and handled.

I realized we haven't updated here :) Zing has found a lovely home he was channeling his grandma with long legs and fine body. .not an ideal male but he is so loved in his home and has another lowchen buddy to play with :) Twist now where to start on our little bug.. lowchen specialty she won AM baby puppy in show :D pm show we were shown the door lmao... she also got Baby Puppy In group at the newcastle toy and terrier show.. first night out in minor BCC (only bitch) and then RuBOB behind her father but winning over an older dog and Minor in group. last weekend at Brisbane Waters at 6 mths and 12 days won BEST OF BREED beating her father and another older dog! we're stoked she's a spit fire and apparently someone to watch out for :) either way we are thrilled with her success

lowchen :) had you been looking a few months ago I would have said I know of a perfect pup as we were looking for a sporting home for him. There are a HANDFUL doing sports in Australia 2 living with me (my girl ella who has a few agility passes under her belt but I haven't done alot with her in recent months, Leo our male who's starting out slowly) there is one I know has its UDX and another with dancing with dogs titles.. people who own this breed tend to not realise how versatile they are. they're happy intelligent companion, guard dogs with great personalities, great with kids (ours opt to sleep with the kids when they visit and leos best friend is my neice) coat is easy to keep if you just want it pet styled. I keep ella short all over now she's done showing ehere as our other 2 are in show coat. they have alot of good points and they're something different that's for sure:)

Not unrealistic at all...it is still 13 months away :) my lowchen pup just happens to turn 18mths on the 4th of that month so it's my aim lol in amongst other things :) hopefully have the whole family running atleast one event.... aim big and try like crazy

Should There Be Restrictions On Junior Handlers
smisch replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
My niece would be one of the few handlers who doesnt live with a show dog. she just came to a show one day and we showed her the ropes and off she went, she has done an amaizng job for a kid who sadly can't doas much as she'd like with the dogs and she tries so hard, She usually meets her dog in the morning of the show and she'll spend time with it and thats it so many of her handlers dogs have been ones shes never met before but we always think and carefully choose what she can and cant show. I think her shining moment was taking our mess of a lowchen (Leo) into a ring, he'd never been handled in jrs let alone by anyone other then us and his previous owners and they won the class beating another much more experienced handler handling her own dog. Doing Handlers has empowered her and given her confidence in general, she isnt afraid to try new things now and get out there and give things ago espically when it comes to school now, she did her first royal this year and had a blast. For all the positives it gives her I wouldn't wanna change or restrict handlers as it then "Waters it down" most of the young handlers wanna be just like us older handlers hence why they come to the shows with us because they enjoy the atmosphere and be apart of it all. Why would you wanna take that kind of confidence, empowerment and glory away from a kid? They've gotta start somewhere if they start at the beginning by the time they're ready to hit the ring with the big kids theen they are prepared. Personally my niece doesnt want to handle in a ring (she has done so with a few dogs) she says she prefers handlers an thats fine with us.. but if and when she chnages her mind we know she'll be well prepared as thats what handlers has prepared her for -
How Do I Enter A Trial.
smisch replied to Esky the husky's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
just been through this with our litter. .. new owners came signed the back of the pedigree in appropriate spots and filled out their details and it is our responsibility since we retain the original until desexed to sign oir parts of the transfer pay the $23 and send it in to dog's NSW and they will reissue it in the new owners name and send it to them -
:) sorry can't tell what breed you have but OH has said he more then happy to tell you what the tools are and give you a quick hand if we're not running amuck :) (he's a groomer by trade) we'll be somewhere near the toy/terrier ring with lowchen and a couple of terriers :)

Try running 7 :p Before we cut back, our entries for 2012 were well over $1000  Ohh ouch, I will never complain about running 2 dogs again!! I wanted to go to this Nationals, but heard the grounds aren't exactly great either? Plus driving up there would take days, places to stay are as rare as hens teeth, would need to take 4 dogs but only running 1.......as much as I want too starting to think I will wait till the 2016 one in Adelaide :) The grounds are the QLD show grounds so like the equivalent of dogs west grounds... they're not as nice as Erskine park but they are not too bad depending on where they put us... I'm assuming we're getting the entire grounds but I dunno... places to stay are proving difficult most of them require more driving but most of qld will have to travel anyway. I know personally staying up home I'm gonna still be a 45min drive. but its mostly country lol.. areas I would personally look for accom.. (dunno if there is any though) this is suburbia surrounding... Inala Browns Plains Calamvale Greenbank Park Ridge Sunny Bank Hills Acacia Ridge Darra Oxley Like if you really wanna go ruralish try out my way, Beenleigh, Jimboomba, tambourine mountain- which I know is on the accommodation list... sorry haven't been up home for about 2 years so its a bit fuzzy.. will see what I may be able to dig up if people are interested

very slowly she is a rather stubborn and immature little girl :/ 9 mths old and she was going better then she is now.. I'm hopeful that her brain will grow and we can train harder but right now we continue to just plugalong without drilling and crushing her as she really enjoys it.. if it takes us a few years to get there so be it. but I'm happy with her so far :)

cessnock - hunter valley pet resort, I work up there during the week and left my 6 show kids there first time they've ever been away and they had a great time. very simplistic kennels, indoor/outdoor concrete runs with off floor bedding but its double bricked so superwarm I wear shorts and tshirt during the early morning no issu everyone is inside at night, each run has their own door to the outdoor section which gets closed off in the evening. small staff numbers, everyone gets their own runs and private time in the excersise yards. food is provided very simple diet and medication and bed changing would be no issue we often have older dogs or ones with extra needs come in.. pm me if you'd like more info :) your always welcome to come have a look during open hours :)

Yep I'll be hopefully going.. Team Lowchen and Lakie :D Have Ella and her bubba running and hopefully James will have Leo running.. hes training and learning in his own way and time.. and Amber well LOL we will see but her breeder would love to see her go!

we live in surburbia and have 6 kids atm 5 small and our old afghan... we breed on occasion and show... our dogs are trained to love their crates, when were not at home about 4 hrs a day everyone but the afghan is either in their crate or on the tiled area inside only due to problem neighbors and 2 of the kids are highly reactive and will bark constantly if we leave them outside unattended as such. when we're home they have pretty much free reign inside, outside or in their crate whatever they choose but if they act up its into their crate and free reign stops until they settle. my boss has a boarding kento ls and they also breed dogs but all hee dogs alternate from being up at the house (many oldies and the pups live up there) and some stay in the kennels. every morning I take them out to their yards which are lovely large yards big as your average backyard and they have beds and buckets and dirt and grass and they just enjoy their day in their social groups if its raining heavily or at night everyone comes inside to their runs. but they're all spoilt and fat and treated well like pets but in a kennels and I don't see an issue with it as I see how happy the dogs are. I think each to their own. like I believe how my kids live works, I love them they get to enjoy their days without annoying anyone. I don't agree in cases where people don't allow the dogs to be dogs they need ample time to run and bark and play and socialise

ours is merely just what we expect of our owners to do. so like thibgs like if they can't care for the puppy anymore that they can return the puppy to us and that we will hold $ x of their purchase price and we will return that to them once puppy is desexed and that if puppy develops any kind of condition that could potentially affect siblings (shouldn't be any due to health testing but you never know).and we also sign a copy of what they can expect from us such as assistance when they have questions and that at anytime in the puppies life we will take it back if circumstances change... nothing overally extreme just how we except our puppy buyers to be towards us and what they can expect us to do for them..

have they done handlers final yet?? watched the first part last night I believe our represent did well :) considering the dog wanted to bounce the whole way in

Can I throw in an out the box suggestion for big dogs in small packages and go Lowchen. Why you may ask I have had BCs and I have had lowchen and I found my two to be similar in nature. and charateristics. our Lowchen are not as intense though happy to play, train and go whatever but if you stop throwing the ball they're like "sweet righto I'm done too" (unless your Ella who will continue to amuse herself) they are about 5-9kg Low/non shedding. Intelligent my girl does agility and LOVES it, she can do just about anything she wants but I have to put in the effort. They are great family dogs, active but also snuggle bugs,Hardy, intelligent, make good guard dogs as well! Just an alternative there if you're thinking something smaller, ours hang out with our nieces and nephew who are 2-10yrs and love them, their only downside is they can live up to their names and be little lions around other dogs with food. but we find you give them space they are fine to all eat in the same room. may not be your cup of tea but if you interested send me a PM and I can answer as many questions as possible
