Sway with the prefix listings does it need to be current ones or are older ones needed to as my aunt has a prefix and has bred so her dogs are out there but there is only a handful.. but she hasn't bred for a number of years now..

I dont think this is an issue. Why should you only trial if your dog has been training for a certain amount of time or is up to a certain standard? He can go around a course and thats all the matters. Is he ready to trial???....well is he ready to train? A trial for me will simply be a training day, in a different environment with a pen and paper. Im not looking for ribbons at the moment, im needing the experience in the ring and that in my opinion is alot more important. Trialing should simply be looked at as just another normal traning day for you and your dog. Because to ask your dog to do more than he is prepared for will over face him. How will I be asking him to do more than he is prepared for? The Trialing course is the SAME as the training one with my dog club part from the obstacles being in the different order! We arnt do anything different. We are training as if it was a trial...but without the pen and paper! Heidii I get how you feel and your point but seriously I have been there and I urge you to take on what t=some of the others are saying.. I started agility and 6 months after starting training i went to my first trial to prove something.. well lets say it proved to me that it takes alot more than practice to get into a ring.. you and your dog both need to be MENTALLY ready.. Even though it may be the same environment (day one was at our agility club & day 2 was at our obed club) it's a completely different atmosphere.. And everyone knows it.. it can be tense and lonely in some cases.. Needless to say (and we only did one run each day) we had no passes I spent a whole year chasing passes and clear rounds and in some cases had issues making it to obstical 5 in a sequence cos poor jock was stressed out cos I was concerned about his behaviour.. I finally got a clear round exactly one year later and while it may not matter to you now it may matter in a few months time.. My other dog snoopy he did about a year of trialing and now I have restarted him after a terrible shutdown due the fact he was simply not ready.. I treated his runs like training and made it the worlds biggest game but he still doesn't want to know about agility.. We've now been working hard the last few months and maybe this debut in brissy may be a good one where we're ready.. but if on the day he starts to shut down im pulling him out before we go near a ring cos Im not risking it! Its really not about the length of time you spend but its about the mentality of a dog and their handler.. while you may be great to go jordi might not be and thats not fair to put him in that position.. Getting around a course doesn't mean their ready as I said I trained for six months and in that time we could complete a novice jumping course no problem.. Heres something to consider.. Are you willing to jepordise all your hard work just for a simple run of a course.. honestly IMO (and im not nearly as expeierenced as some other handlers here..) if you really wanna have a "training day" just go a trial with jordi and enjoy it.. take him round let him get used to the atmosphere and practice waiting to go and practice beign crated and you could even walk the novice courses just to get a feel.. Honestly it'd do you more good than to enter jordi and destroy your hard work.. Good Luck and Hope it all works out ETA: sorry if the spelling sucks.. stupid touch typing

for us its simply "here" (side im working on) and "out" (the side away) and then "go" (for straight a head) Jock's pretty good with cues so he generally watches my shoulders.. I need to make sure my whole body is committed to where we go! other wise we have issues!

Awesome we'll see you there! I had to Ring the Logan people last nite.. Cos Im living between two states the details on my forms are slightly differing to my rego details.. but she was so nice and helpful and actually listened to what I had to say so yay!! Just Midol.. I was at The jimboomba obedience club.. don't get me wrong there are some great people there but I was at agility for 3 weeks there and each week it got progessivly worse.. I would rather train by myself and have fun rather than feel miserable the whole time..

Im excited as usual.. last week I entered a huge heap of agility Trials.. 16th May - The Obedience Club of Brisbane (OA,OJ,JD,AD) 23rd May - Logan All Breeds Dog Obedience Club (OA, AD, JD) 6th & 7th June - The Agility and Jumping Dog Club QLD (SD, GD, OA, OJ, JD, AD) x 2 Since last year I had school and other committments and lack of space I rarely Trialled and trained on 6 weaves and a Tiny tunnel.. its amazing to think tonite I was in my back yard on my Dog Walk.. scary..And we have improved outa site!! Im entered with Jock (Associate Shetland SheepDog with blue Eyes and Pricked ears) who dispite being older is flying like he was born to do this! Any other DOLers I need to watch out for?? Hope to finally meet some NICE QLD agility people.. I left my club cos I couldn't stand the people..so far this state hasn't been the most welcoming to me..

I would Reddii except that the ANKC ones are ALOT closer to home for me and we're already on our way with our titles.. Ill see how we go may do it for extra once I get my Ps

Well Im just gonna enter as I usually do and see what happens technically I'm "over the border Trialling" but actually I live in QLD now but haven't had a chance to get my paperwork sent off.. and Im still dealing with dogs NSW (whoi'm furious with atm) as they lost my title paperwork and I can't find my Q cards (probably in a box in sydney) so it looks like we're gonna redo novice jumping again.. oh well... 2nd times a charm!

ah well we have had a lack of weave work the last few nites.. stupid work.. But I started training for a straight entry requiring a 180 turn though.. Ill try and make it make sense I had my 12 poles set up and running parelle about 3 m away were our 3 jumps so I had him do the 3 jumps and turn into the weavers but how Im training is to teach jock to do a 180 degree turn before hand.. so we have 3 jumps then a lone pole/flowerpot as a marker for him to turn around to then come straight into his weaves.. we're getting there.. the entries were better its just pole number 2 that is the issue.. but practice makes perfect!

Cos as far as i have heard from a few NSW judges because my dogs are regestered with the ANKC there is no need to re register them with CCCQ.. hmmm..if thats the case I guess snoopy goes into perminate retirement!

lol well were just working on our weaves but not using 2x2 cos its taken us alot to get here so Im not stepping back!! I finally spent the money and built my 12 poles yesterday and spent most of today using them! Im being blown away by a little dog who in December couldn't right hand weave.. I started him on a jump and entry with me on the left hand.. he flew over the jump and entered and zoomed through to the end! Im really impressed with the progress made (I've done next to nothing since work started!) My other little dog.. who is a sook. is back at channel work cos he coped well lats time and he just needs a refresher and thats how I got him back to 12 poles in 4 weeks last time..! so hopefully we'll be good soon!

hmmmm... ok this thread really does apply to me.. I have two associates registed with the ANKC for agility and I did that in Sydney so does that mean If I get another rescue dog that I cannot trial with it under the CCCQ cos if that is the case Im not gonna even bother with them.. its a stupid ruling.. Can anyone clarify this for me?? I haven't joined yet as Im still able to trail under my NSW membership..

stupid question but are the prices on clean run US or Aus... cos im looking at getting the 5 way connector in bulk but not sure.. has anyone seen them elsewhere online or in a store... Im desprate for them!!

heidii what comp style are you planning on doing CCCQ or ADAA?? If your doing CCCQ, I am most likely doing the Jimboomba Dog CLub trial you're welcome to come down with your dog and hang out with Jock and I for the day.. I may not have as much expierence as some people on here lol But i can atleast show you the ropes.. We're doing novice agility and excellent jumping and proabably the open courses!! Ill just fill you in on something as Vickie could probably remember my first embarassment of a trial, I'd only trained for 6 months and decided I had to enter a trial.. We did 3 obsticals and ran out the ring because I hadn't trained enough without food and enough sequencing Day 2 was alot better but beacause of my rushedness I had 12 months of DQs... Not saying thats gonna happen to you but be confident in you and your dogs abilities.. its great expierence but don't push too hard!!

can we have recent video Sam so we can see what he's doing? I think most dogs adapt a weaving style that suits them best naturally. Most experts would agree that bounce weaving is not slower or faster than single striding. I would not get too hung up about his style...as you said, he has come such a long way. I know a few people who tried to change their dogs stepping & regret it big time as their dogs lost confidence and ended up worse than before they tried to change it. LOL, a question...what do you think Trim does? no peeking on youtube either. I recently watched a video someone took of her weaving in slow motion...what she actually does totally surprised me. Trim has her own unique style.. I'm trying to remember its been a few months lol... hmmmm I'm thinking its kind of a bounce but at the same time she singles steps.. I'm remembering photos of her and in some cases she's single stepping and in others shes bouncing.. lol no clue!!! now gonna go watch a vid and work it out lol!! I'll set up some poles and get some footage sometime tomorrow.. and I guarentee now he's gonna actually do what we need lol! It could all just be down to my handling too.. Cos I'm Learning to handle a faster dog..

I just feel that the way he weaves isn't the best way he should be.. His head has finally gone down and he's starting to run ahead again.. but since he's got Faster and started hitting the poles (which are 60cm apart) hes slowed down and started looking for gudiance.. the speed will be fine once he gets the confidence back.. The accuracy is something we're always working on! so anything to do with that would be good!! The independace has gone down hill a few weeks ago he was running a head and entering and our skills were at the max then recently we've gone back two steps.. but we're working on that using the channel.. So basically the acuracy and the coverage of ground cos since he's slwoed down he's gone back to using alot of ground to cover the poles I'm not expecting fast and fancy footwork.. I would like us to get to a stage where we are covering the most amount of ground and he actually gets all the poles and not run into them.

he's a borderline 300-400 dog.. He literally makes it in by 1 cm lol.. But while he's small he stretches right out and covers ALOT of ground.. and as I was saying in the original post he does run into the poles on occasion (we haven't been doing to many straight poles recently) hmmm... Back to the drawing board me thinks

It seems stupid but I'm not happy with jocks weaving foot work, He's a two paw bounce on either side of the poles Dog.. And I don't think that is the mst effective way for him to weave, he has reasonably good accuracy (his enteries still could be better) and he has great speed (for an almost 9 yr old) I have noticed a few different styles and made some observations (they may not be correct but its just little things I've noticed) Two feet on either Side of the pole: Fairly solid way to weave but is a bit slower than other styles, Dogs who use that rarley miss weaves. Single StepFast, if trained properly accurate but dogs using it tend to miss weaves espically if they haven't practiced or had solid foundation work One front foot lifted: and it swaps as they move from side to side, Fairly acurate but can cause dogs to miss poles espcially if they loose rythym. Not as fast as the other two.. Jock has always been a two footed dog, but with his speed we're constantly hitting the physical pole or his turns are wide and he misses the last pole or the second.. Any suggestions? currently I'm working on channel work to encourage him to go ahead we're now at the stage where the poles are in a definate zig-zag pattern as opposed to two sets running paraell.. Unfortunatley he wasn't orginally trained in the best of methods, we were taught using the weave guides.. Slow and annoying and then I swapped to guiding him through once he had the basic pattern.. So his footwork style has developed due to my bad teaching.. Any Suggestions would be appreciated.. I have a set of home made 6 PVC poles which all live on a PVC base, they can be tilted and rigth now I'm working using garden stakes for his channels (plasticy type ones). Im not not proud of his work as he's worked hard to get there but I think it could be better..

I had to physically teach jock a 2o2o as he has always been a bit dodgey on his contacts... and he needs a cue word but we're slowly weaning him off the touch on the dogwalk.. aframe is a different story cos he has a habit of jumping off just above the contact.. I taugh jock with a plan and his leash and i would walk him to the end and make sure he got the contact properly. and I clicker worked him so as soon as he'd get the contact it was "touch" CLICK feed.. and one we had it I started working him off leash and I would give him the cue to touch and wait for him to get himself into the 2o2o position and then CLICK feed. Jock tends to either Stand or sit with his 2o2o haven't had a chance to test it on the DW yet.. I'm not using it for the aframe as he is such a little dog and he never hits the very bottom of the AF anyway.. Another skill I was taught was using a target plate.. it works well for the slower dogs but probably not the most effective method
