  1. I will make sure to bring you a few of our past layouts from ADAC and Syndey ANKC... I'm gonna have to get myself into gear and get denver working hard so that he may actually run.. lol we'll be team zoomie that day.. Biscuit and Denver
  2. Where to start Jock: * Get his JDX, SDX, GD & SPD title * Get at least one pass in either Open Agility/Jumping * Get a tight weave entry from all angles.. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet but I have had a few brain waves *Keep him running.. We celebrate his 10th Bday in April, I wanna see him do agility for a few more years Denver: *Get our A-frame contact to 100% consistent *Learn to weave properly.. with good entries *Enter a Trial *Get our JD (thats stretching it but I have faith in this boy!) Myself: *Learn to handle Denver better.. new dog means new handling... *Get my bloody Ps... I got my car today so we're on our way! *just keep at it with jock.. work with what I have and forget about the things I don't.. he is an amazing little dog!
  3. Just to show you all our training and so you can see for yourself how well he's doing
  4. Yeah (pictured in siggy) Got him 2 weeks after ekka... lovely boy, pound puppy with no history and the funny thing was his name was jock so it was well and truely fate!! He's an amazing young dog with lots of potential now to just bring that out in him..
  5. My Brag isn't a Trial result for once but I'm still so proud!! Denver and I have been working very hard on our contacts in order to take him to training being pretty much ready to head out of foundation class and into class with the big dogs!! and as well as that being a BC a solid contact is really important!! Anyway started working with a 2o2o and was doing really well with it and today we headed over to another DOLersplace to play and I was amazed.. He's only 21 months old and he was doing a slightly lowerd aframe and hitting that 2o2o consistnatly and pretty much everytime! but the big shock to me was he did a full sized dogwalk and got the contact this is the first time he has ever been on a fullsized!!! I was shocked! This dog has given more in 12 weeks than what I was hoping to achieve in 12 months!! so proud of him!! Watch out QLD Denver is gonna hit the ring in 2010~
  6. I can't believe I missed this topic!!!!! I am very interested in doing herding with Denver, He shows a natural instinct (In my eyes) he frequently tries to heard the neighbors horses and the wild ducks.. I have a few questions which have probably been answered but I'm being lazy... Denver doesn't have the best recall espically when he's working the horses through the fence.. Is that going to be an issue at heridng or is the recall something they will learn.. He is OBSESSED!! Are the herding Trials run thru the ANKC or Do I need to join another club With the instinct test, what is involved.. Where canI find details on herding classes and trials in SE QLD Thanks everyone!! I'm a complete novice with herding but it's something I could really see myself doing!
  7. would you happen to have the details for the charity trial?? I'm supposed to be getting them from another Friend but I don't think she has them yet!! OOOH YAY JOIN THE GAMES!! I'm sure you'll be fine.. If you saw my last pairs run, you seriously can't be anyworse than that hahahah! mind you its just the fun of it all!! Who are you partnered with?? We're running with Minkah the cheeky Chihuahua X.. Team pocket rocket for us!! Hope you guys did well today.. I'm a little peeved I've missed the wrap up of the Season but I guess Denver is a touch more important!
  8. Nup!! Forget BAD come to Jimboomba Obed club!! We're a small club with agility and Obed, everyone is really helpful and Rowan the instructor is the best!! He has such a great manner and being small as well its great for focusing on each person and where they and their dogs are.. like some nights we have only 5 -6 people in the triallers class which also means more runs!! they have foundation and triallers class.. and You don't need to join the obedience program to do the agility either! If I remember right we can have younger dogs too they just make all the equipment smaller and safer for a young dog.. A few Dolers come and train there! I haven't been for a few months cos my new boy had Kennel cough so mid November we'll be back there doing foundation with my new boy and Triallers with Jock! Currently we're training on a Wednesday night but we'll have to wait and see if it changes again which hopefully it wont! PM if you want more info and I'll try and give you as much as I can cos i'm still newish to the area... My friends mum used to instruct at Logan All Breeds Obed.. She left it so that shows some people's opinion.. I haven't heard the greatest reviews on the club but thats just me!! I have never been so i'm not one to judge! with Jet being a small mix, my dog Jock is an almost 10 year old Sheltie mix and he has been training since I got him at 6 and we have no problems infact all of our passes this year have been placings so the little dogs do have a chance to do well!! Good Luck !! Its located at Tully Park, Beryl Pde at Sth MeClan (sp) Classes are $5 a week. with Registering CCCQ has a silly rule IMO that you can only have on associate (mixed breed) in your name just be warned.. I had the world of Trouble getting Denver registered.. ended up using my NSW membership and address to get him done in NSW..its done now..
  9. As I posted on youtube They girls are both looking AMAZING and it's interesting seeing the difference.. But I see what you mean about Shine and rhythm, towards the end she starts to loose that rhythm but its only in the last 2 or three poles where you can see she's like "ok whats next!" Trim on the other hand.. neat and tidy and consistent the whole way thru!! Be proud of the girls and their weaves they are amazing..
  10. My stepdad has actually offered to make them for me..which was a surprise and a half but I had to buy all the materials he's just wleding it hahaha... hmmm.. I do know that Mt Gravatt sells the full sets a little pricey but may be worth it.. Sorry I can't help there.. We'll be at the Friday 13th pairs Trial don't know if your coming down to watch but if not Im sure we'll see you in the new year although I have heard there is a charity trial on the gold coast.. so we amy be there too.. Will be slowing down on the trial circuit soon cos of study and jock doesn't run too well in the heat!! Pats to miss Bindi!
  11. Interesting session tonite.. did some see-saw work and a few jumps See- saw he gives a "bang" (contact) on both sides and will do the left from a slight distance.. so apparently I've trained it right! and its the same every time.. he stops in the same position. trying to fix it to be a drop onto the contact just to cover the distance.. Back crosses are looking good as I cross behind I do notice him turn his head to get me within his vision rang so that once hes over the jump he's already of the turn.. I have been teaching him the jump style where they land parallel to the bar which helps this alot! Front crosses are a shambles atm... but we'll get it.. I have forgotten my fronts cos I seem to always be back crossing with jock these days.. retrain myself too! Providing the see saw stays solid will re introduce the tunnel over the weekend but as soon as we slip again the tunnel will go back away.. until we can keep everything consistent!
  12. I wish you were still in Sydney, I am working with a dog right now who sounds very similar. We are making sure that she doesn't lose that forward momentum but teaching her (and her handler) turn cues has helped enormously while retaining her speed. Maybe you'll have to come for a holiday Well I am buying a car.. So as soon as my hours are done and I have more than a 2 day weekend.. damn traineeships and their required hours I will probably come for a trip down with the monsters.. did a Few back crosses today.. Denver has a far off commitment point on jumps and the See-saw but a close commitment point on EVERYTHING else (but that would be due to the lack of training on everything else..) so I really have to Yell here to call him off cos If not I'm stuffed.. mind you I am working him a lot closer together than novice is but thats because He's got a long wide stride and turns quiet wide.. so we're working with it all.. The forward moment of this dog is all good providing he knows where to go.. which is my own training cos I'm not used to having a border collie who takes off ahead of me like a rocket.. but as U just said as soon as there are turns they tend to start losing it.. It'll be interesting to see what our instructor has to say in a few weeks.. The little brat broke all the weave bases (Really Bad made out recycled PVC pipe sets of 2) so not more weaves but in a few weeks we will have our new metal bases!!! yay.. Everything but the Jumps and the see-saw have gone back into hiding until we perfect what we already know.. then its back to the tunnel and shaping of A-frame... Man my idea on training has changed since I started out with jock.. its scary!!
  13. That was my train of thought when we started progressing.. I'm actually atm focusing on just his jumping skills again He has already got some amazing distance that he has taught himself but has no control of where he goes.. he sees a jump and takes it.. So I'm going to start working on it again.. Jock is Jock these days :D If hes out of the crate and i'm training he doesn't give a damn about agility training at home.. as soon as he's in the crate he is insane for agility! so now its crate when Denver has a go... But I mean Jock'll be 10 in April so if he starts to loose his enthusiasm at times I'm not gonna worry..
  14. Sorry Can't really express it in a short easy question... Anyway I have been doing training with Denver pretty much every night for about 5 - 10 min.. it may be as simple as some recalls and leave it commands or just dropping from a stand.. Other nights its his preferred obsession of agility which he has clicked to.. anyway We cannot go back to club training till mid November so I figured I'd start his training so he's not a complete green when we head back to classes.. But my question more relates to the speed at which he is learning.. I started him off with some barless jumps which are now at a 400/500 height and the see-saw in which we played bang games to gain confidence.. (My theory was that next to the weave poles the see-saw is one of the harder obsticals for dogs due to the movement so lets teach it right at the beginning before we can get too confident!!) He now has a solid see-saw but we are still working on coming right down to the bottom and not just putting our two feet in the top of the contact! But now that training of two obsticals has extended to pretty much every other piece of equipment.. I wasn't bothering with the A-frame or dog walk but Denver started showing interest and at several points when they have been near our training area has taken them and done them the wrong way.. So I have started teaching him the correct way to break that habit.. and he has also started basic weaving purely because he watches jock go and then tries to copy.. Keep in mind this a 20 month old BC.. so he has drive.. But my question is am I overloading him.. I'm not forcing him.. we have maybe 2-3 gos of something then play and then go do something else.. or do I just stick to the basics and let him do whatever he wants and teach himself bad habits when clearly he wants to learn.. which is why wen he showed not interest in the a-frame at all I showed no interest in teaching him... Here is a link to a recent vid.. Sorry its a mix with my other boy and my friends little dog and its been edited so there are effects and whatnot.. but it gives you an idea of where he is in his agility training no a-frame or dogwalk because he hadn't started doing them.. he literally started about an hr after this was uploaded after we sent my friends dog over it for some training.. he just ran on up and down.. I have only had him since the end of August.. I'm extremely proud of him and cannot wait to see where he goes.. Any ideas are appreciated!
  15. I made this see-saw plan its dead easy but you really need to secure the base cos it has a habit of coming apart.. Some good quality PVC pipe glue and a few screws outa do it and then you just need to paint it!! http://www.caninecrib.com/dog/training/teeter-board.asp Keep in mind the site is a US site.. so its all in inches!! Good luck hope it helps!
  16. Well we headed out to meet a puppy BC X Kelpie who was 13 weeks old and then came home with an 18month old BC hahaha... We adopted a young male BC who was a stray, he is medium coat and has the strongest herding drive literally anything he will try and herd.. Jock was mousing the other nite and he was there tryign to herd jock and the cat.. His name funnily enough at the Shelter was Jock but we now call him Denver or Denny... Loevly dog, he's been a little unwell with kennel cough so basically no leaving the property for trials or training for the next 3 months really not happy there cos he was cleared of KC before we got him and then for him to get it :D As far as drive goes that is yet to be worked with.. atm Im trying to find what he truly drives for.. We like playing with a squeaky ball but then get sick of it after 10 min... I haven't had much working time with him yet due to TAFE and work and just letting him settle but over the weekend We'll do some training.. Someone has taught this dog manners.. He doesn't beg for food at all,Takes it so gentally when you offer it to him and he loves to work for it atm.. He will sit, drop and shake on command and he waits to be invited up onto the couch bed ect.. although he's learning his boundaries and realises my bed is a big free for all.. His personality is starting to shine through now he's on the mend.. he's a real clown who wants to please me.. So its a great start and everyone is happy wiht him... He may not be a top agility dog but there is poteinal for that, Herding and Obed.. I can't wait to see what the future holds.. Photos coming soon!
  17. As I already commented on that Vid Well done to Chloe and Trim.. Chloe has come so far since her first few runs at ADAC.. I reckon by the time Chloe has her own Agility Dog she is gonna have Top handling skills.. Very much like her mum! Well done again!! Its great to see younger handlers getting out there, I wish there would have been more when I started out!
  18. I Just went to get them but the girl has taken them off youtube.. Really annoying.. But I'll see If I Can get her to send me the vids.. Not promising a miracle hahaha
  19. If its the book Im thinking of that teaches your dog to land parelle to the jump yes its brilliant.. A girl on anothe forum Im on did a whole youtube series of sections of the book!! I took the jumping style the book teaches and altered it for my needs and it works so well!!
  20. I used paint and Sand I have never seen a carpeted see-saw In the ring.. I would think in teh case of larger dogs simply make the lengths of pipe larger.. I only have a little dog so he doesn't need a jumbo size see-saw its perfect to train on!
  21. I kid you not I made this with only the help of my mother who drilled the holes cos I am terrified of touching my stepdads tools on the offchance I break it lol See Saw Plan The only issue with the design is you need to be able to make sure it is all well stabalised I had an issue after it was first made of the joins all coming apart.. a little PVC glue helped it alot!! I Also had to paint to wood with a textured paint I made myself.. Riversand and Just your general paint that can be used outdoors.. lol I just so happened to have a few shades of blue and a rejected pot of textured hahaha! Hope it helps you out and I'll post some photos of my own when its light!
  22. Hahahaha thanks Jock knows he's cute and he tries to use it.. and does to eberyone but me lol! Maxie is too cute.. pity bout the states distance.. We're off to the animal Welfare league tomorrow.. its where we got Snoopy and all 3 of the cats from so we're more than happy with their service and their assistance after adoption! Wish me luck.. I have a few dogs in mind!
  23. My gosh we're on page 2 what happened did no body do anything brag worthy lol Logan Trial today and man it was a stinker of heat... we had two runs and they were both great ones.. JDX.. HARD AS but suprisingly I managed to pull it off but due to a certain sombody waling through the tunnel we had 3 time faults... AD.. 1st Q and AD TITLE!! thats been almost 3 years in the making!!! Im so proud of jock.. The judge was a really lovely judge and she could have easily called several lots of refusals but she didn't and Im thrilled to bits!! so I now have Jock NJC AD JD SD... lol I swear there is some kind of pill for that
  24. I can see your point, my stepdad isn't as dog savvy but he really has final say.. mum isn't as fussed about which system the dog comes from and I don't mind as long as the dog is a happy healthy nice dog.. he would rather save from the pound simply due to the fact that foster dogs will all eventually get a home, they're safe but pound dogs don't have endless time.. I have worked in rescue before so I understand that what you see is not what you always get... But I have worked in that enviroment and around dogs long enough to be able to steer clear of the completely unsuitable but as for deciding from the suitable I was stuck.. I have a few ideas now! Thanks DOLers
  25. thanks miss moo.. My stepdad has his heart set on a BC at this moment.. Im not fussed.. it will be a working line dog..ATM Im just watching the few pound sites we have intentions of visiting and generating in my head what sort of personality im looking for! ETA: Too true poodlefan.. I have worked with some of the most intelligent dogs who freaked at a door closing.. not going down that road again!
