  1. Yep, i know the shop you're talking about. I don't think i've ever bought anything there yet. Will have to take a look next time i'm there!
  2. lol i agree Ellz... it's almost as if they're proud of their accomplishments!
  3. I would imagine that it would depend on how much Supercoat you're feeding as to whether the diet is balanced or not. As someone mentioned, dogs don't really need rice. Might also need to be careful if you're feeding quite a bit of raw meat (i.e not getting enough calcium). However, if 3/4 of Minx's diet is Supercoat, i'd say she'd be ok. Personally i think the B.A.R.F diet is great if you have the time and energy to make sure that it is done right. Jazz wouldn't touch it as soon as i started adding vegies and supplements, so it just didn't work for her. I may try it with Chelsea. If you want to feed some raw foods, Supercoat is fine to do that with, or Eagle Pack (my fave), which is designed to be fed with other foods. There are a lot of super premium dry foods out there which are designed to be COMPLETE foods, which is why you can't feed some of them with B.A.R.F - can cause nutritional imbalances. I'd also consider chicken necks / wings, but just make sure Minx mashes them up. I'm having problems with Chelsea and chicken necks (they go down whole, which is ok provided they don't come back up again and get lodged in her throat!). They are great for dogs though, but just make sure you are home if you give them as i have a friend who lost a young puppy through choking on a chicken neck.
  4. P.S. Did he have a wind problem to end all wind problems that night!!! PHEWWWW
  5. Hey Lisa, I once had a flatmate with a Staffy who really knew how to clear a room. In fact, Mel had a deodorising spray in every room, he was that bad! He also was put on a diet... for "dogs with wind". It came in a 10kg slab. We both came home from work to find out that he had removed the slab from the kitchen counter (he had access to the house all day) and eaten most of it . Apparently it cost Mel a fortune too and was meant to last a month hahaha.
  6. ;) Go Minx!!! ;) Was she the one that was letting them rip at puppy class? ;)
  7. I usually feed my babies human quality mince, but occasionally i do buy the Lenards Chicken Mince and haven't had any problems with it in the past, so probably just a bad batch. I do freeze it straight away as they don't use preservatives.
  8. I haven't tried Rescue Remedy yet, but i have used Be Kalm tablets in the past and found them quite good.
  9. P.S. I'm still dyyinngg to see a pic of Sasha! ;)
  10. Hi Ruth, For a young puppy, i would say 3 chicken necks would replace a meal (depending on how often you feed her too). If you are feeding 3 meals plus a bedtime snack, perhaps you could give 1 chicken neck as the bedtime snack? Cheers, Jenny
  11. oops... P.S. Ruth, i meant to ask what you've called your new baby?
  12. I also feed some raw mince. We are lucky in that we have a butcher that often sells human grade mince for around $3.50 a kilo. Unfortunately some of the pet mince around almost makes me hurl!! Lenards do a good chicken mince for around $1 a bag i think - their carcasses are also great! (i personally wouldn't feed a whole carcass to an 8 week old puppy - my girl is 12 weeks and i gave her a whole one the other day and i don't think she handled it really well).
  13. The Lenards ones are pretty reasonable at 3 carcasses for $1. The good thing about them is that Lenards leave a lot more of the good stuff on as well! My dogs also love their chicken mince. I think Porky's in Cranbourne is one of the cheapest places to get chicken necks around SE Melbourne (depends on how much you buy). I'm a lazy sod and find their necks really fatty, so you have to chop some of the fat off them, so i pay a little extra and buy necks from the local poultry shop for $1.50 kg
  14. Hi guys, Have just found this thread thanks to molasseslass. What a great idea the large rock is. I've had a few Goldens now, but have never had one that basically inhales it's food! lol. I'll be trying that tonight! Thanks!
  15. I tried the Dettol thing too when i lived in Queensland. We were on acreage and there were hundreds outside in the evenings. Unfortunately i had a golden pup who thought they were great fun. I would worry myself sick over her. She'd carry them around in her mouth if someone let her outside and not once was she poisoned. They would wait at the door for her to come out and play even (not that i let her, but given the chance she always would play with them!). It drove me absolutely nuts as they made their appearance from around 4.30pm until 10pm or so and there is no way you can keep a young dog inside for6 hours every night!
  16. That is good to know! I use their treats as well for training and have fed the canned food on the odd occasion in a pinch!
  17. I used to use Flax Seed oil, but i've found the storage/display conditions for some of these oils inappropriate eg. kept in full light in a warm area, so i'm a little wary of them and also now use fish oil capsules. The Value Plus one contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 (may try this one in the future at some stage)
  18. I feed tuna once a week and sardines in oil once a week. As for yoghurt... natural set yoghurt is the best! I feed a tablespoon a day
  19. I still love Fido's Puppy & Kitten shampoo. It's mild and smells great, and yep... the smell lasts for around a week! Squirt is nice as well, but i find they only smell yummy for a few days.
  20. I also used Nutrigel on my girl when she was pregnant and off her food. I found it fantastic, but she hated the taste of it so i had to place it on the roof of her mouth. Hope your puppy is doing ok now! P.S. Did the vet give his mouth a good going over when he examined him?
  21. Some breeds do get "winter nose" which is just temporary. Once it starts to get warmer their nose will be black again. Some dogs also just lose pigment - my girl has it as well. They say that kelp added to the diet can help, but didn't work for me LOL
  22. Hi goldieneale, I have recently bought from pricelesspets. They do not have a secure credit card server, so i asked them for their direct deposit details and paid that way! (you can either pay online if you have online banking or go to a bank and do it)
  23. LOL tell me about it!! Someone else on here mentioned it a few months ago and i've since bought from them as well - cheapest prices i've found!
  24. DD, if you don't have a problem with fleas, you could use Interceptor Spectrum rather than Sentinel. It's about $35 from www.pricelesspets.com.au for the large breeds. It is a monthly tablet which covers both heartworm and all intestinal worms. I've also heard some negative remarks about the yearly heartworm injection, with regards to adverse reactions to the medication. If your dog is over 6 months, he will need to be tested for heartworm before you start any preventatives. Good luck!
  25. P.S. Another thing you can try if your dog won't eat it, is put some shredded cheese or ham through it - works for my fussy girl!
