  1. Hi guys, Well after thinking we were going to lose her in the car on the way to the vets' yesterday, she's bounced right back and is running around like a maniac today. I think she realises somehow that she was really lucky... she was super affectionate and clingy this morning after a long sleep. Will have to see the vet tomorrow to see what i can keep on hand for emergencies as oral antihistamines would be useless for her. She was barely rousable within less than 5 minutes of the sting. Anyway i guess the good thing is that we know and are more prepared in case of another emergency. I have all the local and emergency vets numbers stored in our phones now and business cards in our wallets, cars and on the fridge! Thanks for the homeopathic suggestion Morgan.. i'll look into that!! From the sound of it though, they don't learn their lesson... silly buggers!!
  2. Thanks for that Ellz. She's as bright as a button today, but i'll be going to our regular vet tomorrow to see what medication i can keep handy just in case!
  3. Hi guys, I found out this afternoon that my young Golden puppy is allergic to bee stings.... she decided she'd have a munch on one, the bee decided it would sting her. Within several minutes she vomited, had diarrhea started getting drowsy and wobbly on her feet and then collapsed, unable to stand. She lost colour in her gums and her breathing was quite rapid. We are around 1/2 hour from our vet (who is open until 4 on a Sat, and this happened at 3.30) and her condition worsened in the car, so we made for the nearest Emergency Hospital where they saw her straight away and gave her a cortisone injection, a antihistamine injection, took bloods, gave her oxygen and then she stayed a few hours for some IV fluids until she had stabilised. She's now fine and headed for the food bowl as soon as we got home! Does anyone have any experience with this? Obviously we are trying to get rid of the particular weed that is attracting the bee's in our yard, but what drugs do you have handy in case of an emergency? Antihistamine - oral or injectable? Adrenaline injection? Thanks for any info! Jenny
  4. Finding Eagle Pack very good as it's fine to feed other foods with, unlike some of the other super premium brands which are complete foods. My girls are doing very well on it, but don't find it as palatable as the Purina Pro Plan i was feeding before.. i just mix in some mince, sardines, yoghurt, etc and that takes care of that!
  5. yep... vote for the Dyson! Wouldn't be without mine
  6. I thought it was tomato leaves/stems that were toxic, not the tomatoes themselves, but i could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?
  7. LOL so is anyone NOT bringing a dog? I have 2 to choose from ... Jazz who's recently had a litter and hasn't had any training in ages (could be embarassing!), or Chelsea who is probably a little young @ 4.5 months old (nutty as a fruitcake). I'm thinking i might just observe and take it all in!!
  8. haha... i'll come along and you can sign my pup's lead!
  9. Hiya Lisa, Advance make both dry food and canned food. Cheers, Jen
  10. Hey Ann, We just joined ADT last week. Which center will you be training at? I live closest to Berwick but due to work will probably go to there every 2nd week at least and on the odd occasion to Chesterfield Farm or Clayton. Happy training! Jen
  11. I pretty much only use the comb to do my Goldens tail and to remove knots. Otherwise i just use a good quality brush.
  12. P.S. if you're going to use an all-in one product, the cheapest place to buy them is www.pricelesspets.com.au - great prices!
  13. lol might have to start looking at buying bulk wormers!! I usually use www.vetproductsdirect.com.au for wormers - much cheaper than at the vets! At the moment, we're using Interceptor Spectrum which does all intestinal worms and heartworm. It's a monthly tablet. We don't have a problem with fleas here, but i guess if we did, we'd look at Advocate or Sentinel Spectrum.
  14. Thanks for the info on the e-collar. I haven't had anything to do with them at all in the past. The topic reminded me of a situation at work though.... i work in a dementia-specific nursing home and we have a particular resident who breaks all of the keypads & locks on the doors, amongst other things. Anyway, they came to fix them (again) the other day and i happened to mention "can't we just give her a bit of a shock?"... i was joking naturally! Unfortunately our podiatrist doesn't get my sense of humour and went into a spiel about how wrong it was to treat a resident this way.. DUH!!
  15. Thanks for that H.R. I'm in Melbourne and have joined NDT, but in a year or 2 may move back to Qld, so was wondering if any plans were in the pipeline to open training centers up there!
  16. P.S. Is there any indication that NDF will ever open training centers interstate??
  17. Sounds great! I've always wanted to do a similar course, but alas... can't do it yet! Does anyone know how much it costs approx? (feel free to PM me). I won't be able to do anything for almost a year now, as we are heading overseas for 5 weeks next May.
  18. aaahhhh, i guess i could always get my pup to smoke a few cigars first!!
  19. Thanks Steve... i'll give it a go. Her poo's are sometimes brownish, but still quite sloppy and at other times are an awful mustard colour, occasionally with mucous. Just a question about the aloe juice... is there anything i can mix it with to improve taste?
  20. Hi Steve, Approx how much of the juice would i give to a 15 week old Golden (weighs 14.5 kg)? Cheers, Jen
  21. Hi CavsRcute, It's a bugger, isn't it... i am dying to see a normal poo! lol . They were starting to improve in texture and colour after i started adding the Science Diet I/D food, but then yesterday evening she pooped orange/yellow slime again - it's truly weird. My vet wanted to scope her and take a biopsy, but i was hoping it would clear. Are you giving cooked or raw lamb at the moment? And what else are you feeding your cav? I'm just really concerned that my girl (15 weeks, and this has been going on for almost 3 weeks now) isn't getting the nutrients she needs to grow... i'm a real worry wart!
  22. Thanks Erny & Herr Rottweiler - i'm sure we'll have a great time! I'll remember to bring a small squeaky toy as well - she loves those too (not quite as much as food though ) Lisa, I'll be at Berwick next week and then the following week i work in the afternoon, so if i have the energy i might go to Berwick or if i don't go then on the Sunday (i work then too :D ) i might go to either CF or the Springvale one. I'm hoping to ditch one of my Sunday shifts soon, so will then do 1 week at Berwick and 1 week at CF or Springvale. I only saw you and Minx for a few seconds and she looked to be doing really well. I hope Chelsea is as well behaved! Anyway, will catch ya Saturday!
  23. We went along to ADT Berwick on Saturday and i thought it was a really good set-up. I'll be signing up for the socialisation and control level. I'll probably have to train at different places as well, as i work both Sundays and every 2nd Saturday, but i hope to ditch one of the Sundays. Lisa, i couldn't believe how well behaved Minx was!! (must have been cos we weren't there distracting her :D ). I'll be going on Saturday as well, so might see ya there!
  24. Hi caffiend, I'm giving the aloe capsules - one a day. I'm hoping my girl is digesting them. We also are having bowel problems (started a day after her 12 week vaccination, but everyone has said that it shouldn't have been the vacc which caused it). It's not diarrhea as such, but her stools are loose with mucous and are a mustard sort of colour. I've been feeding Chelsea chicken and rice for 2 weeks now with no improvement and now am also feeding Science Diet I/D to see if that helps. Otherwise my vet wants to do a scope to see what the problem is as he can feel nodules in her lower bowel. She doesn't have any other gastro-intestinal symptoms and is as energetic as ever, so i have no idea what's caused this. I am also adding Slippery Elm Powder to 2 of her feed daily to help line the digestive tract as well. Anyway, best of luck with your boy. Cheers, Jen
