Yep, when my young girl had a U.T.I at 10 weeks of age i gave her Inner Health Capsules and Cranberry (along with the antibiotics of course). She started to improve within 2 days - great stuff!

I'm making an assumption here, but its more than likely that she hasn't had 2 U.T.I's in 3 weeks, but the first one never cleared up. You can also give Cranberry tablets (crush and put in her food) or capsules (break open over her food) daily. I would also consider giving Acidophillus to replenish the good bacteria.

I wouldn't be feeding a growing large breed puppy any food with a protein level of 42%. FTPO, if you're looking at a food for Benson, i'd try their Fresh Mix Adult which is wheat and corn free and only 23% protein. I'm a great believer in growing pups slowly. The protein debate has been going on for ages, and dogs DO need protein for growth obviously but i don't like to overdo it. I'm going to try Artemis on my girls when their current bags are finished, so will let you know how they go!

Humans have pretty much the same product for eye infections as well. I would imagine it would take at least 3 or 4 days to see any improvement? Being an ointment of course the eye will look a little gunky when you apply it. If you're worried about a reaction, perhaps give the vet a ring today?

That's a great outcome Malisa. Did they offer any suggestions as to why it happened?

I refuse to shop at Petstock Cranbourne for many reasons, including them asking me to pull expired stock off their shelves for them (15kg bags of food????!!!!!). I have never been there since but have had quite a few negative experiences there. Try Porkys or Robbo's. Otherwise K9Katz and kitchen have the holistic puppy as well.

Usually it's best to switch over foods gradually, so perhaps consider buying the smallest bag of the food he's on currently. At 9 months you could look at either the EP Holistic for large breed puppies or the EP Holistic for large breeds, and pretty much any of the other Holistic formulas now - it's up to you. It certainly won't hurt staying on the puppy formula for a while as the protein level isn't too high. EP have a product which makes it easier to make the transition as well, but i'm not sure where it's sold other than where i buy my food from (delivery), so will be too late for you. I'm not sure if they'll go as far as Cranbourne West, but i get my food delivered by K9&Katz kitchen. They deliver free to certain areas. I'm in Narre South, but you're a bit further, but worth emailing them. I have one of these brushes with the gold pins as well and absolutely love it. Think i've had mine for around 5 or 6 years and no problem at all, so not sure what would have caused yours to rust so soon?

Oops... almost forgot! I also raised my last Golden litter on EP Large Breed Holistic, and some of my puppy people are continuing with it. They've all done really well.

I've had one of my girls on it for a few months now with great results - fabulous coat, lots of energy, bright eyed, etc... and most of all... small poo's! LOL. Be interesting to see how she goes now. She's 11 months old and money was a little tight, so just bought a bag of EP Natural.

kja... i think you've probably just answered your own question there LOL. If you're fairly remote and beaches close by aren't frequented by a lot of dogs, the risk is still there (as it is ANYWHERE) but it would be quite minimal.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a sterile room. Even operating theatres are not sterile in the true sense of the word. Clean/disinfected yes, sterile, no. It doesn't matter where you go, nobody can tell you for certain that you won't be exposed to any viruses or bacteria, all you can do is take the greatest of care whilst exposing your puppy to new environments, animals, noises and people.

It's definitely about balancing the risk of parvo and other diseases with the risk of inadequate socialisation and only you can decide for yourself. Personally i take my pups out straight away, but areas such as the beach, parks, etc i wait 7 days after the 12 week vaccination.

I'd give cottage cheese a couple of times a week, yoghurt - 1 tblspn or so a day, an egg only once per month until he's older (very high in protein and you're aiming for a slow steady growth to limit pressure on growing joints). Dogs don't digest vegies very well unless they are completely pulverised. If you have a juicer, that's the best way to do it. Just remember that if you're feeding extras to feed less dry otherwise you'll end up with an overweight baby! Also limit the treats - if you're going to give them, perhaps just 2 small doggy bikkies a night just before bed to help him settle.

ah, that explains it. Thanks for that Rappie.... i just couldn't get why the same manufacturer would bring out something so similar. I just shove the Interceptor down their throats LOL. One of the girls will just eat it out of my hand as well, but it is a large tablet!

Thanks for that info. I'm wondering if there is any difference between this product and Interceptor Spectrum?? Curious as both meds do heartworm and intestinal worms and are made by the same company? Still works out more expensive for me as my girls are over 30kg and an Interceptor Spectrum costs $6.15 (in a packet of 6).

Hi Ahona, There are quite a few different treatments out there. It's a matter of figuring out what you need. You will need heartworm prevention and you will need an intestinal wormer. Other than about 4 years ago when one of my girls came home from another breeder, we have never had fleas, but it may be a different issue where you are. I prefer to give my girls as few chemicals as possible. I use Interceptor Spectrum (which does heartworm and intestinal worms) and i have Advantage (a spot on flea/tick product) in the cupboard but have never had to use it. Do a bit of a search on other products such as Advantix, Revolution, Advocate, Sentinel Spectrum, etc. People also find that different products work for different dogs, so it can be a matter of trial and error. If your neighbours have dogs, check to see if there is a flea problem in the area. ETA: The cheapest place to buy any of the above products is: www.pricelesspets.com.au .
