  1. i also tried the golden paste. I literally had it the same time as my boys. I thought it was overpowering... eek.... my boys didn't mind it at all. Will lick it off the spoon :D I didn't really notice any improvement to be honest (but then again i only made 2 batches which lasted about a month) but I have read many many reviews of people who swears by it. Tumeric is natural and has much healing properties so I say it doesn't hurt to try.
  2. I'm not sure whether there is any law in NSW for this, is it mandatory to leash your dog while walking? I've come across many owners walking unleashed dogs and i'm often nervous when i see them. My boys are always leashed when I'm walking them. They don't do well to unexpected strangers coming up to them.
  3. Another vote for dyson. I used to get just the regular handhold vacumn cleaners from target many many years ago. Thy are cheap but lose their sunction very quickly. Once i switched to dyson, never looked back. I've had mine for i think 7 years and still sunction is powerful. Worth the money in my opinion. You don't need to get the latest model, even the old models do the job (as i said, mine is 7 years old and its an obsolete model), there are a few times I've seen the older models on sale for more than half the original price.
  4. those little buggers! I had one go in the eye of my boy when he was a puppy. Scared the c**p out of me. I got it out and rushed him to the vet, luckily no harm done. I'm always paranoid around long grass. Haven't happened again since. I was told they happen around long grass, thats where the seeds are. I know its probably hard but perhaps any chance you can keep the grass to a minimal height?
  5. Thanks, my vet recommended this too. But its expensive, and also i'm not going to vaccinate on him again regardless of the result. I have discussed this with my vet and he seem to be in agreement with me. My thinking is so what if i find out whether he has the antibodies or not, all it does is maybe give me a bit of peace of mind but I can't really make a difference knowing the outcome. If it comes up that he doesnt have the antibodies anymore, I wont be vaccinating anyway. So i didn't really see the value of it.
  6. Thanks. I've used this one: https://www.budgetpetproducts.com.au/new/product/dermoscent-essential-6-spot-on-skin-care-for-large-dogs-20-40kg/2182/ Its smells great - terribly expensive. But i don't think it does much. Also tried flax seed oil, uesd for many years but stopped in the last two - those flax seed oil i remember were similar to the one you posted as I remember looking into it(though i have never tried the one you posted). I'm not sure it did much either. I may give yours a try then. Thanks for the tip.
  7. Its a schnauzer and he is 8. Lol, no he hates the QV, wouldnt let me put on him and when i do, he wipes it all over me haha Tried Aloveen, no good for him. Smells great but doesn't do a thing. I'm now using QV shampoo, seems to work better on him.
  8. Last year they were bad already, you can see its recessed and gunk is getting in. They cleaned it already one year ago when he was getting another pulled. And this year it's gone worst. True i can have it removed later but I don't want to be putting my dog under every year or traumatising him, he is rather nervous around other dog (in the surgery) as he hasn't been properly socialised since he is allergic to vaccinations. My thinking is do it once because its only a matter of time that one will become a problem (if its not already one). I don't know whether its those molars that are causing him pain like i mentioned in my initial post. He has stopped eating bones. Just licks it a bit and walks away now. This is also what i am terrified off. Even last year after he got a scale and clean and polish, his breath smells bad.
  9. thank you all. I never found out what caused the reaction, was it the perservative in the vaccine or the vaccine itself. But i was also told the same by the vet that they reported to the vaccine companies and they don't give a damn. Very frightening. I'm always super nervous when my boy needs to go in for a surgery or put on new medication. Super nervous.
  10. I would like to get some opinion on dental. My boy has some bad molars at the back. The two upper back ones have recessed and despite brushing his teeth regularly, it seemed to have black gunk stuck on it (possibly rotten but i was able to scrap most of it off). I cant get to the rest of the gunk because its right at the back and behind the gums. I took my boy to see the vet and he indicated that the molars at the back are painful to get out. They have to cut it in half and pull it out bit by bit. He said he will do an xray first, and if the tooth is still healthy with a reasonable amount of gum attached, then we may be able to leave it alone. Now here is the thing, I can't clean that tooth so I'm two minded about leaving it alone. The tooth has problems, potentially hurting my boy because he is no longer chewing on bones.... but that could be because of the loose front teeth at the front - that i don't know until we remove it. If i leave the molars alone, i'm probably looking for another surgery in another 12 months time. I don't want to have to put my boy under again to get it examined only to find its rotted up again. Secondly, the cost to do this all over again is not cheap. If the xrays show they are bad then its a no brainer, needs to come out. My question is, if the xray shows the teeth is still healthy and I leave it alone, would the rotting affect his health, his breath is already bad. Stuff is getting into the recessed area and I can't clean it, over time, its going to be problematic. If i get it pulled out, would this cause a lot of pain to have two molars out at the same time. Can my dog still eat without the upper molars? The bottom two molars are also looking to be problematic in the future, but they are in better condition than the top two.
  11. I have an aunt in the USA that has dog that is allergic to a lot of things. When its allegies kick in, its quite severe and he will lick the area till its raw and sore. She has tried many things and her vet recently put him on a new drug called apoquel. Stops the itching straight away. I looked at the drug on the internet and there are many side effects but she says he is not on it long term, just when there is a severe itching or licking - it works immediately. Based on the information on the internet it's also a steroid. I haven't used it on my boy myself so I can't give you my opinion but she swears by it and says this one is the most effective medication she has had so far... she's been through a number with her boy over the years. Perhaps ask your vet for their opinion on this one? I think the next time my dog flares up, I will be asking my vet too. My boy itches as well, but i think its partially to do with dry skin as he is very prone to dandruff. I put QV all over him and seems to help somewhat. I also rub a bit of olive oil on his skin after a bath. If anyone has recommendations for dry skin, i'm all ears.
  12. My boy is allergic to the annual C5 vaccination. He had it three times as a puppy with no issues. The fourth one he had a mild reaction and developed lumps within the first few hour (exactly the same make and brand as the previous one). The vet gave him a dose of antihistamine and it went away. The following year, i asked the vet whether the same thing will happen. He said very unlikely, i was nervous to say the least so he consulted other vets at the surgery and they were also in agreement a second reaction seemed unlikely. So knowing no better, i went ahead with the vaccine based on their recommendation and the reaction was close to fatal - almost lost him. Luckily the reaction happened while we were still at the vet. After that incident, no more vaccinations. My boy is now 8 and doing well and hasn't had a vaccination since. I avoid dog parks and careful during walks to stay away from grass. I was wondering whether allergies to dog vaccinations are common? Are there any injections besides the annual vaccine I should avoid - like antibiotics? My vet says it could be the preservative in the vaccine that caused the reaction.
