Interesting Andisa. I have heard a similar recipe from ancient Greyhound breeders only they have use Carnation Evaporated Milk - I guess that's the substitute for the Goats milk and the added sweetness factor. ;)

Hi Wazzat Xolo You have sent some nice pics to my friend and would it be ok if I send the Havanese one onto the owner? Cheers

OK - 35 kg dog gets 2 lidfuls - LOL very technical I'm guessing that would be around 6 mls? 6 kg dog gets half a lidful.......

If you want to chat about your upcoming litter, you can always start your own thread in the Breeder's Community

I think you are just lucky Noisymina - there are several renowned tick areas on the Brissy sth side - you can get ticks at the Durack showgrounds! - and it gets even worse once you get into hinterland behind the Gold & Sunshine Coasts. Toowoomba/Warwick/Nanango - it all becomes tick free.

I'll ask my friend about the dosage she is using for her large dogs. I use the capsules for my small dogs but my friend is using a Silica Liquid on 6 large dogs and she's finding that to be very economical. I always thought the Gelatine thing was a bit of an old wives tail but then Gelatine was made from hooves so maybe that's where the idea came from

I haven't tried this product but I've got to say that if your friends' dogs ever ended up in a vet with a paralysis tick, they would be onto Advantix or similar very quickly Ticks are minimal inner city but I have picked up a paralysis tick in Red Hill which is very inner city! After having 2 dogs die from paralysis ticks and I live in a high paralysis tick area Nth of Brisbane, I haven't had any issues since starting my dogs on Advantix. Killtix or Preventic collars are also very good but in the long run the best preventative is to check your dog for ticks every day.

I know of Toy dog breeders using these very successfully and recommending them to their puppy buyers in the US. I don't think they are available in Australia but if they are, I would be interested in trialling it for my dogs.

And I totally agree - most of our Open shows have larger entries than All Breeds Ch shows in the country!

We have a lot of Open Shows in Qld, as like WA, it's how judges get borned.

Try Silica from your Health food store to harden nails (and grow coat!). It's expensive but works out ok if you're only giving it to one dogs. I used to chew my nails as a kid and I was given gelatine!

LOL - Mine would eat the egg and lick the butter off the toast - waste of bread! -

Do they get a lot of exercise? Particularly the older one? -
Toads are generally nocturnal as well which kind-of helps as you can have a night time pen/area (if they are outside dogs). We have toads and we've sectioned off a large yard, lining the fence with AVIARY WIRE - tiny little squares and it's also greatly reduced the toads and the SNAKES in the 2 years we've had it erected. I'm a killer - early evening patrol with a torch - my partner has developed a toad whacker out of an old pool cue - heavy end, one whack and they are dead. Talk to your local vet about ticks - there are tick-free areas but if you're anywhere near the coast, you'll have ticks for sure.

Call me stupid but I offer a full refund for a pup with a genetic problem and require return of the pup. Most owners would naturally want to keep the pup/dog and if I think it is a suitable option, I require that the pup is desexed (if it's not already) and I will not be held liable financially for future operations if it is their desire to keep the pup. I also do my best to ensure the parents are health tested and pups are vet checked and strongly recommend pet insurance. In this circumstance - and I'm not sure if an insurance company covers patellas - but as you can prove the pup left you healthy and you have a vet report from that age stating the pup's patellas were fine on delivery, and both lines are clear of patella issues - the current owner would have a good claim opportunity to fix their pup as it's not "genetic" or "pre-existing". I would be wanting a second opinion either from your own vet or another recommended to you by breeders/show people closer to the owners if distance is a problem. It sounds like your puppy buyers are being very co-operative and only want the best care for their baby so ask for another vet consult at your cost and see what the outcome is.....best of luck Tansy - terrible situation for you.

Code Of Ethics Breached And Dogs Qld Don't Seem To Care
t-time replied to Puppoochi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ditto what Steve said. Also a complaint will not be accepted by the ANKC (the only way for a member to "contact" ANKC is via their state representative) -the state governing body dishes out the suspensions etc. No offence Poodiful as I know your heart is in the right place but breeders are free to advertise wherever they want and just because the site where you found the ad is frequented by BYBS etc, it doesn't mean that this member is offering their studs to unregistered bitches. Just some thoughts. -
How Often Do You Feed Sardines And Eggs?
t-time replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
S&F - my dogs are between 4-7kgs and the diet I feed is on the first page 2 whole eggs a week each is not a biggy as far as weight is concerned. Mind you, I'll feed an egg on 2 different days - not 2 eggs in a meal. Often I'll make a big batch of scrambled eggs and divide that up for the dogs. Unless I have puppies or oldies or health issues, the diet is the same and they get fed once per day. If anything, some of mine are on the tubby side - BAD MUMMA! - but if your dogs are used to being fed twice a day and are a little overweight, you can feed a little less and divide that into 2 meals. I think the mistake a lot of people make is to feed 2 full meals each day when in reality the requirements of a smaller (toy) dog are much less. As for tinned fish, I like sardines as they are small fish for my small dogs and it just depends on which tinned fish your dog will eat but I'm sure someone will come along with a scientific analysis of why one fish is better than the other. Hope this helps. -
Dogs Victoria Wanting To Take More Decisions From Breeders.
t-time replied to Steve's topic in Breeders Community
Pretty sure this is covered by the Taxation laws? A hobby can earn up to a *certain* amount each year and a commercial interest is above that figure....used to be $50,000 once upon a time but I don't know what that figure is these days. Can't remember the last time I earned $50,000 from breeding dogs! Then change the mating ages for those breeds! Why penalise every breed? There are many breeds which already require particular health tests before breeding and those tests cannot be performed before a particular age - so create new breeding protocols for those breeds which are slipping through the cracks with health tests. -

Many canine fertility experts would agree with this - I know mine does. -
I give my puppy buyers 6 weeks free pet insurance and strongly urge them to continue with it - especially if they are not extremely financial. The downside seems to be the pre-existing conditions clause and what conditions the insurance companies consider to be "pre-existing". On the upside, one of my pups went to his new home, picked up haemorrhagic gastro-enteritis 12 days later - emergency vets because of course it was a Friday night - hospital admission for 2 days and nights, IV fluids, ABs and $1800 later and the new owners paid nothing. In 12 days, the puppy cost more in vet bills than his purchase price ....

You guys sound great! The only other consideration would be for yourselves - locking into housesitting especially with animals would mean less time for you to travel and explore. So maybe you should think about that as well - you would be tied to one place for a period of time which may not suit you. I immediately thought of a placement for you but it's longer than 3 months - nice place but if you are travelling around the country, you want to see it all!

Try wholesale butchery suppliers as most household-type mincers are useless for something like whole carcasses. I have a brochure around here somewhere so I'll dig it out - comes in our rural news

I can't offer any medical-type advice but upping her probiotic intake would be a good idea - Inner Health Plus or something similar? Not just yoghurt but a real BANG! probiotic! Also perhaps seeking advice from a Naturopath/Homeopath? I haven't had a dog with stump pyo but I have heard that it can be a difficult infection to be rid of......so ensuring there are a few extra immunity-type remedies are going on couldn't hurt too much at this stage. You've gone through a lot with this girl and good on you for trying your hardest and doing an excellent job!

All very well if you *have* a breed club puglvr! But that's what I reckon *they* are counting on.......... -
Just add regular composting materials as well. Grass clippings, food scraps (not meat) etc and you *can* add worms to quicken the process though be gentle with the tumbling LOL If you do have worms in a smaller tumbler compost environment, don't put the dog poo in if you have wormed the dogs - leave it 3-4 days and during that time just dispose of the poop in your "pre-compost" way ie usually bagged in the bin!. ETA: I certainly would add kitchen scraps and I don't know why it would be suggested *not* to?
