  1. Apparently it covers most other worms except I think it was hookworm?? Sorry BL - it's been a few years now Perhaps some of the others that posted will be able to shed more light Also never had a problem with fleas when my dogs were on it... Hey Holly - is Ivomec the same strength preparation and is the sole ingredient Ivermectin? Ivomec is is easy to get your hands on as long as you've got a produce store nearby. What dose per kilo of bodyweight? It's sounding so good from some of the other posts that I'm reconsidering my decision to stop using it!
  2. Why buy more CRAP!!!??? Just give your dog the meal in the morning!! What's the point in giving him "cheap" biscuits?? Is it making you feel better or him feel better??
  3. From what you've said, I think your dog just isn't hungry The other posts are correct - all the cereal foods you mentioned are not good for litle doggies Try just feeding once in the morning - it is a good routine as then they eliminate during the day as mentioned in a previous post. You don't need to double the portion for "breakfast" and "dinner". Take the food away after 15 minutes and don't feed ANYTHING else until the same time the next day. No treats! No afternoon tea! No extras! No matter how pleading those eyes are! It won't take long for your dog to realise that he/she HAS to eat THEN!! It'll take less than 4 days for your dog to be eating normally - I guarantee it!! Your dog has got you wrapped around you little finger The Eukanuba with extras sounds ok but you really need to add RAW meat to the diet and BONES to chew on regardless of whether or not your partner thinks the meat stinks. This is a DOG! It needs BONES! They can be chicken necks, whole carcasses, giant beef bones whatever - but your dog NEEDS them for a healthy diet. Not cooked - RAW! It doesn't matter the size of the dog. I have little fluffies myself and they will drag a giant dinosaur shinbone around EASILY and get great joy of of gnawing on it for hours at a time. It's great for their teeth - they have lovely clean pearly whites and sweet breath. ;)
  4. Hi BL, I used to give oral "straight" ivermectin by weight once a month. It covers more than heartworm. There is not a lot of info about using other preparations as well as the ivermectin. Generally the method is frowned upon - not because of its lack of effectiveness - I found it to work well and my costs were minimal because I could source it locally and didn't need to use other products. It is off-label - my issue was that the dogs had to be weighed exactly every month to dose correctly. With labs - that could be a huge issue for you unless you have your own dog scales at home. I highly doubt you'll find a vet who will agree with the use of ivermectin. My own vet with whom I have a fantastic relationship and who knew I was capable of administering the drug - still had reservations about me using it. I'm now back onto monthly tablets and bi-monthly worming along with Advantix - talk about a chemical cocktail
  5. I bought a box as an add-on for my girls' dinners and all bar one completely ate around every bit of the muesli! What other posters have said is correct - it has honey making it extremely palatable, the main ingredient is cereal and it's a cute marketing ploy Don't waste your money - go back to Supercoat if it works for you and your dog If you really want muesli for your dog, feed meat and buy the best human muesli you can and add some honey
  6. I am super-critical of my dogs' coats - both longhaired. One week it's dryness I'm worried about - next week it's sunburn Coming into season, travelling, swapping products, different diets, new brushes, blow drying in a different manner! I'm a shocker
  7. If you can't afford to buy a hydrobath (like me ), use a little ingenuity... My back is stuffed as well - I have two long-hair showdogs.... I changed my bath spout to a showerhead - one of those flexible ones with a hose - I put a small sturdy table into the bath tub on a slip-proof bath mat. I bought an el cheapo 2nd hand baby bath and drilled holes in it all over the place (or you can use a large laundry basket). The whole set up takes 2 minutes to get ready and is great for my bad back. The only downside is that I do tend to splash a bit of water around and I quickly pull across the shower curatains if the dogs are going to shake Also my girls are quite used to this treatment so they won't jump out of the tub/off the table It sounds primitive (and it certainly DOESN'T look professional) but it works a treat
  8. Add chopped parsley to your dog's diet
  9. Yes and I heard cabbage as well. because it's gaseous it fills them up while still being nutritious
  10. Oh, poor Elka Don't worry, all will be well. Postive energy to you both NB. Don't forget that she'll be asleep for most of the time she's in the cage so don't be too worried
  11. What about just giving the dogs some relief with Calamine or something for a couple of days? Whether it's insect related or grass related (I don't reckon it's food either unless you've given them something different) they've gotta be itchy and flared up. Just something soothing for a few days.... The grass is causing problems around here too but I thought it's only when it gets long - oops! - I just cut my lawn as well!! Have you bathed them since all the itching started? Treat them now, take a deep breath and try again in a little while once the dogs feel a little better.
  12. But you said you had some education about the uses of painkillers in dogs The OP or the friend obviously DON'T. Therefore the best advice is for the dog to be taken to a vet BEFORE it gets overdosed with human medication.
  13. Even an asprin should be under vet advice only!! Don't let your friend take any chances. A dose that is good for a 5kg human is not the right dose for a 5kg dog!!!
  14. Oh, Little Lab, this is so terrible for you and your wife Poor little thing You precious care of her dear little life is commendable. Not all new owners are so caring. I wish for you and your wife that maybe one day again you will have a lovely, healthy Lab puppy.
  15. How is the little one? Did you get her to gastro vet? All this should NOT be happening. :D Sounds like the food is going straight through her poor tummy. Does she pick up before or after eating? And how long after eating does she poop? Sorry to hear about this baby Please give us an update.
  16. As for the "country of origin of the breed and what you feed" deal: I was told by an American Tibetan Terrier breeder not to feed too much meat to my TT. His reasoning was that Tibetans are Buddhist and do not eat meat so the dogs were traditionally vegetarian. After a huge internet search, what I came up with is that in fact, traditional Tibetan Buddhists did (and still do) eat meat (think YAKS)!!! Not saying my dog doesn't eat veges but she loves her meat (though not chicken or pork). Felt like emailing him back and telling him but I was too much of a wuss!! This is a great article but we still have to remember, it was written in Germany and it depends on your breed and your individual dog as to how much of these foods are good for it. It also begins with "dogs like their forefathers wolves" which is not strictly true.... My dogs won't touch borage!!!
  17. WOW Sugar!! Great list! Must stop feeding my dogs Avocados, tomatoes, macadamias and egg whites!!! And I'm pretty sure they've eaten raisins too...what's the reason behind that particular food? Sounds dire
  18. I LOVE IT! - But only one of my dogs does I'm going to take my own advice soon and MAKE them eat it!! I don't feed kibble as a whole meal but the girls always get a bit of variety which is where the kibble comes in. They are currently pigging into Advance which suprised me as usually, they pretty finicky about processed foods.
  19. Hey Pixel, don't put anything alcohol based into her ear if the skin is broken - it'll really hurt her. Maybe even the Leo will hurt too... Try the apple cider vinegar first. You'll notice if you put some on your own skin, that it kind of dries out. That's what it will do in her ear. Unfortunately, sometimes even just having a drink and then shaking her head can get water into her ear. And ear infections can be notoriously difficult to clear up, even for vets. Get some recommendations for really good DOG vets on your side of Brissy and take her there. I know West Chermside Vet Clinic has heaps of doggy specialists there. It will cost a bit but they should be able to get it right quickly and you'll save all the money stuffing around buying useless preparartions. Also. it's beem damn hot and humid in Brissy lately - good enough to catch in folds of ears and to drink heaps, shake head, get a hose off from Mum, lie on a wet blanket.....
  20. And don't forget Toxoplasmosis from cats...I've had it - not fun
  21. All my dogs get some kangaroo meat in their meals at least once a week. As long as your dogs get wormed properly, you'll never have a problem with the roo meat. I too, would not feed organs but these are rarely available anyway. If you buy roo mince which is sold as dog grade rather than human grade, I'd be wary as it is highly likely to have offal/organ content. Just ask the butcher if you wish to feed mince. Just becasue a meat is lean, does not mean it has NO fat I've seen so many dogs with a Xmas gut this year it's not funny!!
  22. Which vets would do it in Brisbane?
  23. OWWW! Sounds like the bite isn't quite right Axxl. ;) Can you post a pic?
  24. Yes, so why did the dog get OP poisoning? Because it had essentially been double-dosed Shall I mention again, the part where I said to follow instructions and not to use 2 products together and to use commonsense??? Guess what? You've already written this in another thread!!! I didn't ask what qualifications you have. I asked: what have you been reading? I also asked if you had tried any of these products??? (Both genuine questions and I believe I also said that. No need to sound all smarmy)
