Morita - it's not an instant fix - over the space of 1 -2 months as you can increase the dosage, you should notice a decrease in tear staining Have you tried the commercial tear stain preparations? As long as you are religious about wiping eyes at leat twice a day, you should have relatively little tear stain
-
Midol - do you have horses or cows? What comes out the other end of them is VERY TASTY! My fat as mud dog is a gastronome when it comes to livestock excretia

Welcome to DOL Firstly, perhaps try another vet Secondly, maybe try posting this in the health section Sorry I have no further suggestions - it sounds strange to me but somebody is bound to have experienced this before

I would feed a 3 month old small breed puppy 3 - 5 times a day It is not likely that he/she would be a greedy pig (ShihTzus are not normally greedy) so let your puppy eat as much or as little as he/she wants. As long as you have a little bit fat covering all the ribs, that's ok at this age If you can feel all the ribs, the pup is a bit skinny. If you tell us what you are feeding your puppy and how much, we might be able to give you more help Also, if you bought this puppy from a pet shop or from a breeder who did not care enough to give you diet advice, I would strongly suggest you take the puppy to a vet for a full check up. Your puppy will also need treatment for intestinal worms and possibly fleas. The vet will be able to show you what to feed your puppy as well Good luck! (And make sure you give us an update )

Good job!! I particularly loved the fact that they are described on the packet a an "accessory" ;) Why do dogs go whacko for schmackos? Check out the sugar and salt content!

It's not unheard of Kazzakanary But it's probably more likely that the rawhide has cut her gums which is why I suggested something else Skwo2 - yes mint is perfectly alright for toy breed dogs (I have toy breeds.) Just make sure you cut it up into little tiny bits and mix it with Chelsea's food
-
See if you can find her little baby teeth to keep Could be two things - 1) Regular teething 2) She has cut her gum on the rawhide - it might be a bit tough for her to chew? Either way, a little bit of blood is not anything to be worried about My advice is to get her a PUPPY chew rather than a rawhide. There are a couple of different brands but try to get something natural made for small breed puppies. :p Puppies do tend to have smelly "puppy" breath but normally it's quite pleasant :p It should just smell like the food you are giving her If you find the smell of her food offensive, then maybe you should think about gradually changing her food to something you like the smell of? A little bit (about 3 leaves) of chopped up fresh mint in her regular food will help her breath in the meantime Please post some pictures of your puppy :p

I'm sorry to say - I don't think your sister loves her dogs. If you love your dogs, you try to do the very best for them and your sister has done NOTHING for these poor buggers :p Call the RSPCA, explain the situation and ask if someone can come and either "have a chat" with your sister and convince her to do the right thing AND/OR remove the dogs. :p It is considered cruelty to animals not to provide medical treatment. If the dogs are staying they need immediate flea treaments, worming and sounds like vaccination. The poor 18 month old bitch sounds like the she needs extra veterinary attention and desexing. The cattledog needs desexing plus the poor thing has obviously been hit with a stick at some stage. Formal training might be in order here along with a lot of patience from all concerned. The puppy may also be anaemic - loss of blood from all the fleas biting it. :p In addition whether or not these dogs stay or go, your dogs' environment is now contaminated - you will need to deflea and worm your dogs again. The whole area will need to be "bombed" and yes, lime is good for this but will kill off plants and/or grass in the process. I would recommend buying some Fido's Flea & Tick CONCENTRATE. Wash all the dogs including the puppy in this product as per directions. Then dilute some in a watering can and water every bit of ground the dogs have been on ie. the whole yard and not just sister's dogs areas. Then lime the boundaries. Wash any bedding in eucalyptus woolwash. Then treat all the dogs again a couple of days later and apply appropriate flea prevention like Frontline, Advantage, Capstar, whatever.

Hi Fee If you read the puppy problems forum, you'll get all the answers you want These are all new puppy people with puppy PROBLEMS Any or all of these problems could be yours should you choose to purchase a puppy

Yeah the vinegar would've been apple cider in those days Hmmm...brown paper....would probably have been rough and made with a particular tree bark which could account for further medicinal qualities :D I wouldn't be trying the brown paper cure these days

Hi Tessa Bella ;) If I could get my dogs to drink ACV pure I would! (Just kidding - but honestly, I think it makes a big difference to the general health of my dogs plus tear staining is reduced for my littlies ;) ) With any dog who hasn't had apple cider vinegar, I would just add the tiniest amount - like 2 mls per litre at the beginning and then increase the amount over time. My dogs have a large bowl which holds about 3 litres of water and I now put 10 mls of ACV in it - that has been built up over a long period of time and I wouldn't bother putting in any extra. In water, the idea is that the ACV clears impurities in the water which in turn helps the tearstaining. :D I also add 5 mls per dog to their food - just because I believe its good for them :p If you started a Cav puppy off putting 1 ml ACV in the food, I think this would be an easy option My dogs range in weight from 3kg to 10kg and they all get the same dosage. I do double the dose for my BCX Cattledog just because she's a fatty and closer to 20kgs :D And she'd eat your arm if it wasn't attached so there's no eating issues there :p The littlies were a little more fussy about it to start with (the dogs can smell it in the water particularly) so if I added too much for them, they wouldn't drink it so I would just go back to the previous dosage until I could sneak in an extra ml without them complaining The cloudy ACV is the one to get - it is actually the "mother" as it's known, which does the job

SBT - Staffordshire Bull Terrier Jia Nugget - have you considered that it might be the Frontline that your dog is allergic to? :D
-
If you look at her front legs - growth plates are essentially, the knee/foreleg area. :D That area still looks "big" to me - it could be the angle of the photo - as the dog becomes full-grown, that area kind-of evens out to look more in proportion to the dog Very amateur explanation but I hope you understand it :D Her feet also still look big compared to her body size ;) Sunny 70 - I hope your sister's dog is ok Onion and chocolate are both poisonous to dogs
-
Yep - nearly 6 months is the perfect time for desexing And ummm...by the look of those growth plates, she still has a fair bit of growing to do :D

What Type Of Yoghurt?
t-time replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ANY yoghurt is better than NO yoghurt but just check the sugar levels - most fruit yoghurts are very high in sugar - so high, you may as well feed icecream!!! Get one with all the good bacterias, acidophillus etc - I will highly recommend YAKULT - one of those a couple of times a week is a huge boost but next to best would any plain yoghurt with all the goodies in it and only a little or no sugar -
I would have suggested a supermarket BL Did you ask them if they actually keep plain junket in stock? Another "goodie" is evaporated milk (not the low fat stuff)

For what???? Her nose might never be black kazzakanary.... Ideally, exhibitors and breeders of purebred dogs desire black (or dark) full pigmentation if they are exhibiting a dog. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter

What's Happened To Eaglepack In Australia?
t-time replied to Shoelace's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Witheverythingiam - there is already an Eaglepack rep at Glasshouse (And she's not a vet nurse - she's a Bowen therapist and breeder ) so maybe it's just a location thing? (And by the way, she is cheaper than Petstock ) -
If you move her further away from you (under the house), it is likely that the behaviour will get WORSE The deck sounds good especially if you spend a large amount of your time out there - I know we live on our little deck so the dogs are never very far away! You seem to have a grip on the fact that she is a BABY (believe me, it's hard to get some people to realise this ;)) so just keep in mind those baby behaviours and the fact that she will want to spend time with you and your family MORE and less time by herself at this stage As she gets older, this will change and she will become more independent. Is she permitted into the house? At 11 weeks, I think you should consider it - she is a baby still....a CRATE would be another option - it would allow her to be in the house with you and then she knows she can only come inside if she is going to go in her crate. (Very good for toilet training and many other things :D) Remember to take her out to the toilet after eating, drinking and playing. You can also move her crate onto the deck at night which will prevent her from scratching the doors (you may have to think about sanding and re-painting in a year's time anyway ). Bribing the neighbours is a good idea in the meantime ;) (Just to note: Labradors come in 3 colours - Black, Chocolate & YELLOW ;)) Good luck with your new baby girlie :D

Dynamic Lifter And When Will They Learn To Bark?! Lol...i No...its
t-time replied to m575's topic in Puppy Chat
Firstly, I ended up with one very sick little dog - into the vet with vomiting and diahorrea after eating some organic dynamic lifter. It is full of bacteria which is great for your garden but not so great for doggy tummies Secondly, although adult dogs will not necessarily "pick on" little puppies, they will put them in their place if they are being particularly annoying ;) Sometimes putting puppies in their place can be quite aggressive and the pup will display all the submissive traits that it should when respecting its elders ;) It is about your pups learning manners from the older dog which is very beneficial but I would also still be wary as puppies can get damaged easily and the force applied to a JRT from to JRT compared to let's say, a GSD to a JRT can be quite different. Sometimes a bigger dog will not realise that the other dog is a smaller breed and might not be able to stand up to wallop they have given them! Keep an eye on your pups when they try to play with the older dog :D -
Then just agree to the desexing and say NO to the tattooing
-
Yes, sometimes pigmentation takes a while to come through - I've recently seen this happen with a pale gold puppy with a pink nose - it turned black with 3 months :D Also there is something known as "Winternose" where the nose goes a pinky colour in Winter weather but by Summer, it is black again. Edited to add: if you intend to show this puppy, you would need to tattoo - full pigmentation is desirable in most breeds for the showring.
-
That's great! Thanks! I thought this thread was about 3 year vaccines?? (Oh just noticed another thread down the page - Sorry, might have this all wrong ) Edited to add : sorry, I AM getting mixed up - 3 vaccines vs yearly heartworm - thought there was a 3 yr heartworm vaccine all of a sudden!
-
:D ;) Well done daccydog LOL - it's those eyes for sure ;) Great work!

I wouldn't get your puppy's nose tattooed I think - and this is only my opinion - that it is uneccessary and is a fallacy that it will prevent skin cancer. Sunscreen will prevent skin cancer Tattooing will make the nose look all black and nothing more If tattooing with INK prevented skin cancer - don't you think we'd all be wearing ink ??:D
