You got approval from the owners, not your fault that the office was closed over Xmas, you paid your bond, you had everything sorted out to move........why wasn't permission sought from the strata thingo prior to saying you could have animals on the premises? That's kind-of false advertising or break of contract or SOMETHING!!!??? SURELY....... GEEZUS - after doing all that and then giving you 2 days notice to change EVERYTHING - they dump this on you!! I reckon you should talk to a tenants union and find out what your rights are - even if you rehome Coco - what the heck are you supposed to do about Bobby?? They've said "NO" to the dogs - you need to find somewhere else to live peacefully with BOTH your dogs and all the expenses involved with the move should be paid by your current landlord :D Just my lil rant! YOU POOR THING Fiery Di - I can't see that anyone here would be angry with you after all this - dreadful situation! Y

Better forget about going to BBQs over there again If it were me, I'd write a letter to them - something similar to what you've written here on DOL. Maybe like a Q & A type- thing? Explain the situation through your eyes and then explain what they could have done. Explain how much animals mean to you and your family and it's how you've been brought up - this shows them why you are so hurt at their actions and you are NOT just a crazy dog lady! Give them the alternatives to tying a dog to a letterbox and how you would have dealt with the situations they've faced with their dogs as a RESPONSIBLE dog owner. Obviously, your husband realises the triggers as well 'cos he's kicking you under the table LOL - but perhaps it would help if he were also a little more vocal in his disapproval - or does he agree with what they are doing?? You are seriously never going to mend this relationship (even if you want OR need to) so I think your only chance to place your cards on the table and try to make them understand. I really do think these people have stuffed the whole dog-ownership thing - I don't know that they can change because it's obviously something they see as being absolutely fine. I know I could never go back to SIL's after these scenarios so there's nothing to be lost in giving them a heartfelt "lecture".

Sas - it's a *toy* dog and that's what they are for!! If you can't pick them up, they must be broken! ;)

All my dogs will hit the deck in one way or another if I am aiming to pick them up The little Havanese will crouch down and the Tibetan Terriers which are a fair bit bigger in size will roll on their backs to be picked up like babies (some of the Havs will do this too.) Sometimes they will just stand still with their head down waiting resignedly....... Some were whelped by me, others weren't and most have lived here for the majority of their lives - I'm not a "swooper" LOL. ;) I tend to think it's more of a "submissive" behaviour so unless you absolutely KNOW your dog has been previously abused, I wouldn't be too worried about it

Go back to absolute basics - crate when you're home and take her out on lead to toilet every second hour with loads of praise and treats when she goes in the right place. There's nothing medically wrong if she still goes when she's on a walk (or in the house!) - there must be something she thinks is weird about your new place! Make sure you clean any messes in the house with an enzyme-based cleaner (Biozet washing powder diluted and sprayed over the cleaned area is a good one). Perhaps there was a dog in your home previously and that's why she's going inside? Be patient - she's older and stuck in her ways ;) But.... back to basics

Me too Bilbo - it was a little annoying first time we had a litter (which wasn't hers). Wouldn't leave the room next to the puppies, growled at the mother if she went to toilet and left the babies alone - promptly came into milk and was discovered feeding the pups more than 2 weeks after I'd already weaned them off their mother!! But the next litter (which still wasn't hers!) this bitch was a godsend - the mother of the litter got eclampsia when the pups were 11 days old and my still maiden bitch was already in milk. Mum had to stop feeding the pups immediately so I let the maiden girl take over which she did with gusto. She was a BRILLIANT mother and has since had her own litter. I am waiting for my next litter to see if having her own litter has "cured" her of being so obsessed with babies!

Hey Ellz, I'm in the same boat as you - can't afford to have a professionally done website so I've been trying to figure out the most pertinent info to promote my dogs without breaking the bank! Much as I like really complex website design (when viewing for myself!) - it's a bit beyond me..... Which topics are on a need to know basis - "how to groom your breed" is information I provide to my puppy buyers....when they purchase a puppy..... (Crazy Daisy, someone like yourself needs to know how to groom your dog for show but the majority are buyers who will simply get a long-coat breed clipped off! So, that's kind of null and void ) If you want to know how to groom your dog - ask your breeder! "Coat care" as general info for the breed, can come under a "MY BREED" page. I agree that it's a great idea to have candid shots of your dogs - I particularly love seeing the US and European sites with dogs in the snow - it's a novelty. but maybe those shots can go on the home page? Just have: a home page which is about your hobby/dogs/kennels/breed and use the candid pics; a My Breed page a puppy/litters page with up-to-date availability and obviously info on the parents of the litter; "my show dogs" page with profiles for each dog including a link to pedigree, maybe health-test results and extra pics of that dog. Past Champions and your previous dog history perhaps with other breeds, could also be considered another necessary page. All up - that's 6 pages plus pedigree/photo page for however many show dogs you have. And I think it should be very simple with navigation! I hate broken links, blank pages and music has to be THE WORST!! LOL "Grooming", "Breed Standard", "Breed History", "Diet", "Health" etc can be in links to the best information you can find. For my breed, I know there are several sites who do it better than I will ever be able to! Hope that gives you some ideas

Good call Sway. I voted YES.

ANYONE IS welcome to attend the lectures for any Breed but it's important to contact the Co-ordinator for your Group - Dates for the breed nights change eg: as I mentioned, we didn't have the breed lectures printed in the Dogworld this time around so for me - driving for an hour and a half and having to turn around a go home again would be rather unfortunate! Sometimes there 3 breeds in a night so trying to squeeze in a million dogs of one breed just isn't an option (btw: there is also the Sweepstakes show now which a fab opportunity for new judges to see your dogs)! And apart from that it's just good manners to "book"! If you haven't got your September Dogworld and you need the Group Co-ordinator numbers and just PM me for details :D And there is tea & coffee (and bikkies!) but I will make the Sherry suggestion - don't like my chances!

Remove the animals (including fish and birds!!!) from the house for 24 hours. Close up the whole house, flea bomb as appropriate. While the occupants are away (maybe at your house? ) wash the dogs in flea shampoo (Fidos is a good one) - this may not be suitable for the dog with flea allergies so check with a vet. Pop them some Capstar tablets available from the supermarket. I don't know anything much about Advantage, but it sounds like the Flea spot-on needs to be reviewed - look at other brands and this should be applied according to the vet or manufacturers directions. Return to the house after 24 hours, open it up and vacuum every carpet - mop all the floors with Eucalyptus Wool wash. ANY animal bedding should be washed in eucalyptus Wool wash and hot water, and perhaps the human bedding as well. Once everything is dried and aired - everyone can come home. Sounds dramatic but fleas can be a bugger to get rid of! Keep up the mopping with the Eucalyptus Wool Wash and put a flea collar into the vacuum bag - this kills any little suckers which you are vacuuming up and will help with maintenance for the next "hatching". Hopefully, the fleas are not in the ground................

Sorry -I'm a little confused - have you already got a dog? Or are you thinking of getting one? Limited Register dogs cannot be re-registered with a Kennel Club in another country. Essentially, the pedigree papers stay in Australia. You can send your dog overseas as your pet (of course) but as others have mentioned, quarantine processes would prohibit a short trip overseas (for the dog not you! LOL) - the dog is much better off to stay here at a boarding facility. If you're talking long term, then naturally you want to take your dog with you! But yes, just be aware that there are long quarantine processes, medical tests and expenses to get your dog back into Australia particularly from Asian countries.

Nope! Not going to get his feet wet LOL Little dogs are notorious for it I certainly wouldn't be growling at him but you should just simply pay more attention to toileting him when it's foul weather. Clean up the wee with some enzyme cleaner like Biozet as that works great and removes the scent so he won't keep going back the same spot.

FFAK - maybe it's different for other breeds? Or perhaps the rules have changed a little? I take the Hav lecture here in Qld and for the past 3 lectures, I have been asked to bring my dogs or any dogs in my care and had to ask permission to invite other exhibitors/owners to bring their dogs along. Maybe next lecture will be better. I like it when there's more than your own dogs to talk about! You don't have to book but you might like to call the Group Coordinators to ensure they haven't changed the breed night or indeed, if they are HAVING the lectures for that breed. I know my lecture night was cancelled because there aren't enough Group 1 candidates this "cycle" - so no Group 1 breed lectures.
-
OK - dug out my Sept Dogworld for you Bernese? 26th April 7pm You are only supposed to take your dogs if you are invited to do so and then there is usually a designated person to take the lecture but anyone can go along to the lectures. Sherry? I wish!

Grooming A Brittany For Show - Please Help!
t-time replied to Sabrina et BeBe's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Don't pick up your clippers or your scisssors LOL The owner needs to find out how the breeders do their grooming - do they clip a throat latch area? pumice on the fuzzy head? trim neat feet? have non-trimmed feet?? etc etc There are many variables..... Unfortunately, I wouldn't have a clue about to groom a Brittany for show otherwise, I'd help you Maybe PM Helen on here? From memory, she has Brittanys. -
Actually, I was going to suggest some nice (quiet) puppy toys like a decent Kong, a ticking teddy etc as no doubt puppy will have to be confined and quiet for a good few months. And also to purchase them some puppy insurance as a gift for 6 months or a year?? Maybe the one already mentioned would be a good idea? I personally wouldn't donate cash unless I was sure my dog was the cause of the incident which it seems like your dog was not. West Chermside is very expensive so I wouldn't doubt the bill ETA: Years ago when I lived in Victoria, my cat would walk along the (tall) paling fence and tease the Stafford next door who would leap up to try and grab her. Well one day, he did get her and she scratched his eye which required very expensive (at the time) surgery. She was unharmed but he ran off crying to his mummy.......I paid the bill.

Dog Groomer Required For Welsh Springer Spaniel - Wollongong Area
t-time replied to JeremyH's topic in General Dog Discussion
Is it for show or is it that you just want a groomer who will make him "look" like his breed? -
She will smell PURTY if you bathe her in Aloveen 3X a week The oatmeal in it is soothing for sensitive skin But you are better off to treat the cause rather than the symptoms ....which you are doing.....it is possible that being left without a bath for ages *could* be irritating her. Just got to say - if you had an itchy area and you simply *couldn't* scratch it - it'd drive you CRAZY!! How is Nala about the Elizabethan collar? Does she go back to scratching/biting at the same area??
-
Havs get bathed weekly and then for shows but I have a muttly CattledogXborder collie and she never needs bathing unless she's rolled in something Seriously, the rest of the time, she just doesn't smell!! I have a "pet" hate which is Au De Dawgy
-
As others have suggested - Capstar. My dogs are regularly treated with Advantix but if I ever notice a flea (like if they've picked one or two up after a show or similar) - they get a capstar and I haven't had a single problem with fleas in 5 years. Also as others have suggested - you have washed off your Frontline!!!

Main Reg: No Breeding 'til Health Tests Done
t-time replied to sandgrubber's topic in Breeders Community
Or perhaps a long term lease could be the go? That way, you can have a no-breeding clause in the lease, she reverts to your name at the end of the lease at approx 18 months of age and you don't transfer her to the "new" owners until health-testing is completed to your satisfaction? ie - you will actually own her so the "new" owners shouldn't be able to breed her without your say-so. :D I know it's a pain as your going to be OS (sorry to hear that Sandgrubber ) but as Miss Monaro said, it will be a bit of postage but also peace of mind ;) Hope this idea helps :D -
Fascinating stuff.....did the subject dog have to be considered a "friendly" dog to start with? Or are they also working with fearful dogs? Particular breeds? (Oh sorry just realised you said they were doing all breds and mutts ;) ) Most of my Havanese are lap "sluts" LOL - any lap is a good one :D They are bred to be companions. :D My Tibetan Terrier (bred to be wary of strangers) would have a bark fest if I left the room - no way in hell she would let a stranger come near her! It would be fab if they did a study to accomodate the temperaments of different breeds

Oh no Casowner....Deshonko Kennels have SHARSHITZ And they only come in green - so it couldn't possibly have been Deshonko Kennels you are talking about.....
