  4. Does anyone here go to knox obedience school? If so could you pm me pretty please?.
  5. Thanx Alpha. I have been looking at that site now as well as another melways site & 2tollers (thanku!!!) is helping with some maps 2 so I think all will be cool.
  6. Ok, so far i'v got I go over Westgate bridge, get on2 Western Ring then to Western hwy/fwy. then unsure. Does this sound right?? I have no idea! lol. Tollersowned I think I am south east as well. I will see if I can figure it out.
  7. Hi, is anyone going from melbourne city? I am hoping I may be able to follow someone.
  8. hmmm, i am in melb so heat hasn't been an issue, i also have an aircon which helps! There are vet tops that may be lighter but still do the same job. Maybe just the maternity breast pads if heat is an issue.
  9. What were your favourite topics and why? Hmmm, very hard to pick favorites! Psychology. Innate/instinct behaviours. Behaviour problems- dominance, aggression and fear. Complex skills and tricks, Scent detection, Tracking and Trailing. Canine sensory capabilities and communication. Evolution. Im sure I have missed some but could go on for a while!! Why- because they were fascinating subjects, because they taught how dogs learn and percieve and interprate things and the way they then communicate this back (if that makes sense!) and the process going on behind behaviours. Who were your favourite instructors and why? Not in order and I have to say I enjoyed all instructors and the infomation and knowledge they conveyed, all were fantastic. All gave me something new. -Boyd Hooper, why... he's a firecracker! Lol. Great knowledge and a fantastic way of delivering it. -Steve Austin, really enjoyed his lectures (fun, fun, fun!) very interactive and again knowledgable. -Claude Bertoni, liked his perspective on things, knowledgable, lecture very interactive and always takes time to answer my many, many questions! -Glenn Cooke, liked his perspective on things, knowledable, very approachable and always encouraged students to get envolved and ask questions! Another who always takes time to answer my many questions! -Owen ? (dont know last name!) Loved the scent detection elective. Great with feedback- on what individually was being done well and areas that could be improved on and how to do that. What did you get out of the course? A better relationship with my dog. Understanding. Knowledge. More questions, lol. A further thirst for learning reguarding many dog related subjects. Contact with other dog loving people that are happy to share thier knowledge for the benifit of dog and owner. Another job with dogs. and lots more.
  10. Lol! I used to have this problem, there are a few things you can try. I have a sports crop top I wear at work and I fold it up so there is double protection! They are only used for work and they are thrown out and new ones bought when they get too hair infested!! But I also wear a grooming apron over the top and I dont find that hairs get in any more. You can also get disposable maternity breast pads that you can put in your bra's so if you deo get hairs in them at least they dont end up making you itchy! I had forgotten about this charming side effect of working in dog grooming.
  11. I use roseline also. Great scissors. Last for ages! I have ones you can adjust the tension on, love them!! I also had gator88 but didnt last as long, but still nice scissors, i think they are hard to get thou.
  12. Ello ello, I also when first wanting to do a course in dog training looked at both these courses. I had decided to do both, starting with Delta then the NDTF one. I then could not go through with the Delta course as i could not do the live in componant. I thought the Delta one would be good in that it would be detailed with the "positive"( i am unsure why it is called that) side to training. Thinking back I am happy I did NDTF first (not sure if i will still do delta course). I liked the NDTF course as it went into all methods of training. I learnt how dogs learn and why events cause a dog to learn including why certain things may even cause a dog to learn to not learn:), it teaches what the advantages and disadvantages of particullar peices of equipment are, how they are ment to be used, why it works when used in the correct manner, why it may not be the right choice in circumstances, & so so much more!!!. hope that made sense! For me i felt Delta was limited in that you can not use particular equipment or methods, for me I wanted a thorough understanding of everything!! so i can then decide why or why not i wish to use a particular method or peice of eqipment in a particular situation with a particular dog . BUT i have not done the Delta course so i can only compare by what i investigated by speaking to those who have and by reading their literature. I was dishartened that when i did sign up for the Delta course i was ment to find a mentor, but it proved difficult as no one was really happy to do that, i was told for fear i may eventually be competition for there buisness, fair enough but dissapointing as all i really wanted to do was learn all i could, and really i think it should be about getting instructors out there with knowlede for the betterment of dog training and therfore dogs. But I do know of others thou that had no problem with this so may be just who i approached. I have never run into trainers being secretive with this course, in fact it is the exact opposite. They share their knowledge and are very happy for you to ask questions-they encourage that you do!! The course has a sound scieintific basis and also if you were to do the bare minimum you would still come out learning a hell of alot! I think any learning is what you make of it, but you have to have the basis of correct, unbiased, detailed and complete infomation to build upon. I loved learning at NDTF that i decided to grab every opportunity to learn and experience all i could. I utalised all the trainers and rescources i could and lucky for me NDTF had alot of rescources to utalise:). I loved also the electives you could do which taught me about scent detection and assistance dogs. I am rapped with the outcome of doing this course so would recommend it to anyone who is serious about learning about dogs and the training of them. Time commitment the course info will cover but i decided to put in much more as i think you get more out of it when you immerse yourself into it-but then again this is the way i learn. AkitaGal

  14. K9, Could you please elaborate on this?? Explain difference and how to tell the difference between having your dog in food drive and exchanging food for action. Could you give me your definaition of food drive?
  15. Hey ya. Im currently doing the ndtf course and am about half way through. I am absolutly loving it. Haven is right in saying that it is alot of work and time consuming but saying that i think it is so worth it for what you learn. I choose to put in more time as i want to learn as much possible whilst the rescources are available. What i like about the course is not only do you get the therory of it all( and the therory is great in that it is indepth), but you get the hands on experience as well. It covers all methods of training and because there are many lecturures and instructors you can get many different angles on things.I also like that lecturers strive to stay updated and current on methods and infomation. I am impressed with this course and am looking forward to continueing to immerse myself in the infomation and learning it presents. Sorry for dodgy spelling!!!

  20. Vaccinations can cause varying degrees of reactions. It is usually on the second exposure. Usually if a dog is known to react to vaccinations they are given an anti histamine 20-30 mins before the vaccination and then after vaccination monitored for swelling ect. The only thing i have heard of with reguards to not using back of neck for vaccs is that there is a tumor that can be caused by vaccs or as a result of site of vaccs, so some i think and im putting in a disclaimer as i cant remeber exactly the info, but some do vacc in tail but not usually bum. It is so if this tumor does occure it is more easily removed. My collegues cat had one and it was difficult to remove from the back of the neck because of lack of skin to stretch back. I would definatley recomend to go to another vet. Its inexcusable for that vet not to explain whats going on.
