Dog got out and I got fined for not having the dog under control

In my experience a sincere apology can often prevent a complaint being made to Council. -

I would say the problem here is the staffy owner's attitude. Obviously the escapes were reported to Council in a desperate bid to have the matter resolved. An apology goes a long way with other dog owners when you' and your dog are in the wrong. -

Huge elevated sense of self entitlement. Thinking they can win the case because the wrong time was recorded. I see a lot of these FW's and their dogs in my area of Inner Sydney. I avoid them like the plague. It's never their or their dog's fault when something goes wrong. And their dogs are always off the leash on public streets because they're so special they don't need a leash. The obsession about the time definitely indicates what we are dealing with here. -
It might be one of those leashes that goes around the persons waist and connects to a harness on the dog.

@Sandrake Did you read the NSW Animal Companion Act? If as you say Council "don't reason with you" what do you think your chances are of winning this case. I would say zero. -

It doesn't matter if the 1st escape was an accident. You can still be fined for it because it's an offence under the NSW Animal Companion Act. -
Dog got out and I got fined for not having the dog under control

When this happened to my dogs a couple of years ago because 2 dogs kept escaping and running across the road to attack my dogs the Ranger fined the owners $1500 , Plus another fine for the dogs not being registered with council. It kept happening and the dogs were fined again and noted as Nuisance Dogs with council. -

I agree with all of the above comments. Plus do you really want to draw attention to yourself and put yourself permanently on the council's radar. I have no doubt the dog will escape again as you don't seem to realise the seriousness of your dog running loose and rushing towards other dogs. Especially a staffy. -

Have a look at the Animal Companion Animals Act NSW 1998 No 87. Part 3 Responsibilities forControl of Dogs. 12A Preventing dog from escaping etc https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/whole/html/inforce/current/act-1998-087 I wish the council rangers were that prompt in my area. I doubt whether I would be taking the matter to court. Particularly if it's not the first time the dog has escaped . -

The man was walking his dog when 2 men approached him and asked if his dog was for sale. See what happened when they were told the dog was not for sale. Sorry about the ads .

You should contact the breeder. Are they Standard or Mini Schnauzers?
