One of our dogs was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia (similar to kidney disease). He has been to the Kidney Specialist at SASH Dr Bing who is excellent. He has bloods done every 6 months as well as urine and blood pressure. We found out he had kidney disease at 6months . He has just turned 5years. He is not on any medication. He has the Royal Canin K/d as well and Hills K/d kibble as recommended by Bing.. He has cooked chicken as well as sardines (reduced salt) occasionally and some cooked steak once a week. We were told to ensure that only 10% of his diet is protein . He has rice and vegetables every night as well. If it is kidney be strict with his diet. Give him the special kidney diet.

@Giraffez Sometimes the Vet can do the bloods again say in 2 weeks time or whenever and the bloods etc will be back to normal. Or sometimes the Pathology Lab can get it wrong. Both of these situations have happened to me. I realise you are worried because of your boy's age. I am keeping everything crossed for you and your boy and I hope it all turns out ok,

Paw knuckling can be caused by Cervical Disc Disease but given the other symptoms I agree it sounds neurological in origin. The problem with MRI's is that even if you do one you might find out what is happening but you may also find out it is a disease that you can't cure or fix. And MRI's are very expensive.

It's the paw knuckling that concerns me. I'm not sure if that is part of vestibular disease.

I would ask the Vet to do blood & urine tests. I would also ask the Vet to check his back for possible disc problems . He might need a back X-Ray to rule out a herniated disc or damage/injury to the spine. I would also ask the Vet to check for Degenerative Myleopathy.

Do you have a Holistic Vet in Qld who does Chinese Herbal Medicine for dogs. They could probably make some medication for your dog that would be more specific to her needs. I have used the Chinese Herbal medicine in the past for various dogs with good results. I don't think much of the Homeopathy . Here is a list of Holistic Vets in Australia. Several months ago I was walking my dog in the park when I ran into a man walking 2 pit bulls. He said they were both rescue dogs. The female dog was well controlled and placid but the male was really aggressive and pulling at the lead and growling at my dog. Needless to say I didn't hang around & took off very quickly. I did say to the man with the dogs "you know if your male dog got loose to attack another dog the female dog would probably join in the attack as well. And if that happenend it would be unlikely the dog would survive being attacked ." And that could apply to any pair of dogs where one is aggressive and the other goes in to attack as well. Not just pit bulls. I didn't think these 2 dogs should be walked together in an off leash park with children around. He wasn't a huge guy and wasn't very confident he could restrain the male dog which he said was his girlfriends dog. I haven't been back to that park since. The incident made me very nervous.

Separate the shitz/toy from the other 2 dogs. See a behaviourist as Rebanne suggests. See a Vet about possible medication. What was the fight about? Was it about food or toys? Is this the first time she has done this? Get a Vet to check her over to see if she is in any pain or unwell.

Many times I have read newspaper reports that a dog or dogs have killed or wounded a person, child or baby. Often the reports say the dog or dogs have never shown any previous aggression. Your aggressive dog has shown you what he is capable of. He is definitely a time bomb with a very short fuse. I feel very sorry for your original dog Sam. He shouldn't have to tolerate this type of aggression.

Good on you for caring and trying to change the situation. The dog walker in our park thinks it's a natural thing for his dog to round up and nip the heels of other dogs "because he's a Border Collie and that's what they do". The council that governs our area is absolutely hopeless. So no one bothers. There are many worse attack situations in our area and the outcome for people who have had their dogs attacked is not good. Some attacks have taken up to a year to be investigated with no outcome for the people pursuing the attacking dogs. Several residents have resorted to taking their own legal action because the council is so useless and won't make the proper legislative decisions.

Has an x-ray been done on the leg to rule out Osteosarcoma?

Most dog owners in my suburb think the dogs will train themselves. They are blissfully (on purpose) unaware that their dogs have to be leashed on public streets etc. They are also unaware (and don't care) that dogs have to be under effective control in an off leash park. Truly there are a lot of idiots with dogs these days. I'm sure most of them don't know what recall means. We have a "professional" dog walker around our way. He walks the dogs down to the park with no leashes in sight. Proceeds to the park across busy roads (no leash) lets them run wild in the park whilst he plays with his phone. Needless to say he doesn't pick up their poo either. Yesterday he was on the phone in the street and away form the dogs. His dog started rounding up and nipping the heels of another dog in the park. His dog chased the young dog up to a busy road. No intervention from the dog walker. No apology either. This is just one of the type of incidents that happen most days in our dog park. Most of the time I keep my dog on a leash and keep walking. It's all too precarious in dog parks these days .

This has always happened with my entire males. They become a target for other entire males. It seems to start when the pups are between 8 and 12 months old that they get pounced on.

One of my dogs recently had really bad diarrohea . The best thing for him was boiled chicken and Hills I/D kibble. The Hills worked really well. I normally don't use Hills but the Vet recommended it and it did the trick .

Could your Vet keep him in their freezer until you leave. Then transport him as suggested by Boronia.
