  1. Used Budget Pet Products online for years. Also use Petceutics for all prescription dog medicines. Both consistently good. Used to use Pet Circle but went off them after they expanded the business and moved.

  3. Normally I would never give canned food to my dogs but I gave Pepper those small cans of Applaws dog food in her last few months. She loved them because it was soft & easy to eat. Probably like Mars Bars for dogs but it did the trick.
  4. That's good news. My old Giant was like that. If we had to take her to the vet she would always make it clear to us that it wasn't her time to go. You could feel the relief coming from her once we left the vet surgery. Dear Pepper lived until she was 16. A good innings for a Giant Schnauzer.
  5. It could be this https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/vestibular-disease-in-dogs
  6. Cardisure 10mgs @Petceutics costs $199.90 for 100 flavoured tablets. Free express shipping .
  7. If you do get a script from your vet make sure you ask for one or more repeats. We use Petceutics in Sydney . They are very good we usually receive the drugs the next day after ordering.
  8. https://www.buildsomething.com/plans/P2BC3ED1049F866AD/Bailey-Chair-For-Dogs I hope this may help.
  9. I buy mine at Chemist Warehouse. Thompsons have slippery Elm tablets & they also stock slippery elm powder.
  10. My Giant can open baby gates with his paw. Luckily we don't have any cats but we wanted to keep the pup from going upstairs. Rolf however can open every door in the house including the baby gate.
  11. https://perthvetspecialists.com.au/perth-veterinary-oncology/ My Giant Schnauzer had a melanoma removed when she was 12. Went to the Oncology specialist at SASH in Sydney where she was given a vaccine. Still with us 4 years down the track. The link I posted above refers to a similar type of treatment. Worth checking out anyway.
  12. I forgot to add to be very careful with your dog running around etc because if they fracture the bone where the tumour is it is very painful for the dog and will bring about the end sooner rather than later. Our dog had the tumour in his back leg . He was a very active dog and ran to the front door & fractured the bone. He was in a lot of pain after that and we had to put him to sleep as a result. Until then then he was doing well on the tramadol. We had a script from the vet & had it filled at our local chemist. It was a lot cheaper than the vet. I hope this helps you.
  13. One of my Giants was diagnosed with osteosarcoma around 4 years ago. Our vet told us it was hopeless as the cancer would be everywhere. They didn't x-ray his lungs to see if it had spread. They told us if they amputated he would have to spend months in a cage/crate & he would be miserable and it would probably only extend his life by a few months. We treated him with tramadol and he had palliative care by way of radiation. He was diagnosed in very early November and had to be put to sleep late March. The radiation was expensive but it bought him some time. We were absolutely heart broken.
  14. So sorry to hear this Sheena. You have made the right decision not to have the surgery and you have done your best for her.
  15. Sheena . I spoke with my vet yesterday. She told me they had just done a dental on a 17yr old mini poodle with chronic renal failure. She said they hydrated the dog for a couple of hours prior to the surgery and everything went to plan. The dog was fine. She also confirmed the dog had to be hydrated because of the renal failure.
  16. Hi Sheena Sorry to hear Bindi is unwell. You could try the RC renal pouches for dogs. I was having trouble getting my 16 yr old Giant to eat & I started her on the renal pouches. She started eating again & hasn't looked back. I think they are specifically designed to stimulate the appetite. This is the cheapest online & the one I use. https://www.jumbopets.com.au/Royal-Canin-Veterinary-Diet-Canine-Renal-Pouch.html I remember our Kidney Specialist telling us that if ever the BRT (with the kidney dysplasia) had to have an operation he would need to be on fluids to hydrate him. I think they have to be hydrated because of the kidney issue. The BRT coughs up whitish mucus sometimes in the morning. Apparently people with kidney problems often don't feel like eating first thing in the morning. I am keeping my fingers crossed for her. She has done so well to date. Did the vet measure her creatine levels & check her blood pressure. Deeds
  17. Anon the dog is doing really well now thanks to the SASH Specialist & our diligence with his diet. The breeder washed her hands of us when we informed her. No replies to emails etc. We could see there was no point in pursuing the matter. The dog is not a frenchie or blue staffy. It is not one of the trendy breeds/mixes. We were annoyed that we paid full price for breed standard and didn't get breed standard. I would not be surprised if other pups in the same litter had this condition. I won't be buying interstate again.
  18. Two years ago I purchased a pedigree dog from a registered breeder interstate. This is the 1st time I have purchased a dog interstate. The pup was always listless and crying in pain. We thought he had hip dysplasia so we took him (9mths old) to Vet to be x-rayed. The Vet took blood (at my insistence) and found he had high creatine levels. We were then referred to SASH. SASH did an ultra sound & MRI & confirmed the dog had Renal Dysplasia both kidneys. Including the cost of the dog and followups we were up to over $6ooo. The dog is supposed to be "Breed Standard". As kidney dysplasia is considered a congenital defect we would never be able to breed with the dog . The dog can't be shown as he is supposed to be 60-70kgs. He weighs 38kg. and is on a special diet for life. When I approached the breeder I was told he was breed standard. This dog was half the size of the other dogs in his litter. Under no terms would I get a refund I was told. This dog is on the Main Register.

  20. I would take your dog to the Oncology Dept at SASH and have the MCT removed with wide margins. The oncologists at SASH said to me you wouldn't go to a GP if you had cancer would you. You'd go to a Specialist. It's the same with dogs. I went to SASH after my Vet of 15 years got it all wrong with my dog's MCT. The blood tests & MCT biopsy that my former Vet did were confirmed by SASH to be totally incorrect.
  21. It's a nice dog. Looks like a large Portugese Water dog when clipped. Doesn't look anything like a Bernese. The owner is apparently a Vet.
