  1. Oh my goodness - simply amazing!
  2. one of my greys did this to a dew claw tonight! I have just bandaged it up and will have another look at it in the morning. She didn't even flinch, we only noticed because of the blood drips
  3. Amazing shots kja! We are half way through our dive certification and have done a couple of 'discover diving' trips. Seeing your photos makes me super keen to finish and get back in the water!
  4. I have a few breeds I would like to own but when I can't imagine myself without a greyhound or an iggy, I don't know that I can fit another breed in  Also have to negoitate with OH as there are some I love he would never go for (e.g. chinese crested). I am very taken with borzois now and would love to have one one day.
  5. Mine sleep in various spots One always sleeps either in a dog bed or on the dog couch (not in our room), another sleeps in the same beds as the first one (at different times - she rotates with him throughout the night). She sometimes tries to get onto our bed in the night but she is allowed up after their breakfast. The 3rd starts off the night in his own bed in another room but sneaks into our bed in the night.
  6. Oh Caz Tammy was a wonderful old lady - such a funny madam. I am pleased I had the pleasure of meeting her briefly and I saw how well loved she was and how wonderfully she fitted into your awesome pack. Thank you for all you did for her. I admit I had a giggle reading through the memories that others have of her - they all involve food! My memory of meeting her does too - watching her scrambling to get to the dog treats, knowing exactly where they were even though she couldn't see them, and telling you off when she wanted another.
  7. Oh Jane I am so very sorry You were Taz's saviour, she spent her last year so loved. Thank you for all you did for her. RIP gorgeous little Taz
  8. yes I should have also added, I would be working out what is going on with your boy before bringing another dog into the house.
  9. hi yes he was on the drip for 2 days, it was strange because he was healthy as , and seemed to go down hill once he was needled, i wonder why the people who had him before went and had him microchipped , and never bothered to needle him ,? maybe he was done before they had him, oh the vet said now my backyard will have the parvo virus in the ground , for about a year, so any dogs not needled will get parvo ? cbl , the italian greyhound is i am told around a year old, i asked if he was housetrained but they said he sleeps outside, iv heard that they are a house dog ? i was thinking he could sleep in the dog house during warm weather then move him into the laundry during winter ? They are a house dog - iggies don't generally do well as outside dog, especially during winter - they have very little body fat Mine goes outside when we go out but he sleeps indoors and even inside he often needs a coat in winter. They are a dog that needs to be with you (as a lot of breeds are) - check out the Iggy Rescue page (in my link) for some great info about them. They are an awesome dog, I love mine to bits, but are not for everyone, they are quite clingy and love being with you constantly.
  10. If you decide to take on the iggy, don't forget to pop into the Italian Greyhound thread. Iggies are a quirky breed so feel free to ask questions about what to expect.
  11. Such wonderful news to wake up to. Welcome home Alvin!!!
  12. We found one in the vege garden recently - thankfully it is fenced off from the dogs. We disturbed it by doing some tidying and he decided to relocate onto our paved area. We ended up building a little home for him using some pavers, bricks and timber back in the vege patch and then ushered him back into the area so he has a nice safe place to live. Little bugger moved off to the place behind us though but I hope he comes back to the vege patch to keep the snails down!
  13. My greys are on Black Hawk (well they have been, had to switch to EaglePack whilst I find another supplier) - they do really well on it. I would definitley recommend you give it a go.
  14. what is it about other dogs using iggies as pillows? Oscar would have cracked it by then, he certainly tells them when he is pissed off.
  15. Oscar loves our greys (and they love him). He doesn't really curl up with them as such (he hates it when lilly uses him as a pillow) but he is always playing with one of them. He hasn't seen another iggy for a long time but I agree that there is a realisation of their own breed.
  16. So previously dogs were allowed off leash in the bush/mangrove area?
  17. Glad to see it has passed. Patch has his collar from Qld so I will be able to organise an exemption for him but I will probably get Lilly assessed (unless it involves a week in kennels as I doubt greatly she would cope being separated from our other dogs and from us)
  18. Eeeeewwwwww (but very cool!) I dished out necks one day to find one still with an eyeball attached - that freaked me out! And recently I pointed out one in the butchers that still had the whole head!
  19. Is it wrong that I want to get in amongst that pack and get covered in iggy kisses Mine all enjoying some morning sunshine Up to no good When Oscar was a baby
  20. Does anyone know why some dogs do this? My dog seems to have that too, though to a lesser degree. He will always prefer to have something in his mouth when he first sees me after work or something. In his case, he will only pick up his own toys, and if he can't find anything within like 5-10 seconds he gives up and runs back to say hello with nothing. But the first thing he does when someone he really likes (it's really only me and my OH) arrives is look quickly around for a toy to hold. I believe it is excitement displacement. I think dogs have different thresholds where they will need to do something to manage their internal state, and different things they will do as a result. The more excited they get the more they revert to instinctive behaviours. My dog that does this has always been mouthy. I guess that excitement for him tends to come out in mouthy behaviour. It's socially unacceptable to mouth people as a general rule, so he carries something around instead. What amuses me is that he walks while he does it, like Roova's bull mastiff. When Erik is excited he runs and jumps, but Kivi is much better at containing his excitement. He'll run where he has the room, but he's perfectly happy walking in circles. The more excited he is the longer he walks around holding something. Lilly does the toy thing too. She is very mouthy/licky by nature and is also a typical greyhound 'collector'. Patch raises his front leg when you stop patting him, just a gentle reminder in case you forgot what you were supposed to be doing He also refuses to lay on the ground (tiles, floorboards, grass, concrete) - he has to lie on a mat, bed or something similar. Once at a Million Paws walk he lay on our friend's sons jacket (the dog is nearly 30 kgs and the child was about 6 so there was more of him on the grass than on the jacket). Oscar runs down stairs using only 3 legs, his back left is always carried. He also has to be covered up to sleep 90% of the time, he will look for anything to burrow into.
  21. What, with the general public? Ewww, gross! Why??!? I know right - what sort of scientist talks to the public *gasp* Oh and I have sighthounds!
  22. I am a scientist (an ecologist) though I have strayed into environmental education - I am married to an IT nerd. We are a massively geeky family!!!
  23. My greys are far from timid - Patch is quiet but approaches everyone he sees and leans in for a cuddle. Lilly is a total tramp and happily smothers everyone with licks who gets within range. Oscar (iggy) can be freaked out in unfamiliar places but within 5 mins of knowing someone he is dropping a ball at their feet wanting to play. I think he is pretty sensitive, doesn't like being scolded.
