  1. Why on Earth would be have an introduced species of crow!?!?! Anyway, I was hoping you being the bird expert, and an Iggy person could tell me, is my tiny 1.7kg puppy at risk of being taken or attacked by a crow or raven? I believe they are not intentional introductions but instead they hitch a ride on ships! I wouldn't say that a crow/raven would never take a puppy, but I would think the chances are pretty low - they prefer to scavenge rather than take live prey. If you are concerned just supervise her outside till she gets a bit bigger or pop her in a covered run. I haven't got her yet and right now they're unsupervised although someone will be there soon. Even when people are there though, the puppies run outside to play and sometimes it's just the puppies out there. They're in and out all the time now, once they're awake, sometimes only for a couple of minutes but they pelt around like crazy. I think with the number of puppies, not to mention mum around, they will be fine

  3. Australia has 5 native Corvidae species and one introduced species (that is very localised and often eradicated but reinvades). Of the natives - 2 are classified as ravens and 3 are crows. Its difficult to tell the difference - the reliable way is that the crows have white at the base of their feathers and ravens have grey - but unless you have one in the hand that ID is tricky Ravens in Australia also tend to be larger but thankfully there is little overlap in distribution of all of them. For example - in Sydney we only get the Australian Raven (no crows).
  4. Oh really! That's strange, I will check - but will check my emails too :)
  5. I am so sorry Jules. Joey was one of those 'dol dogs' who everyone knew and loved. Thinking of you (Sorry I rushed to type and wrote Renae instead but I hope she is coping ok)
  6. Means we get to see loads more photos of her!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!
  7. Yes I am another who doesn't enjoy it much anymore. Oscar in particular now reacts to other dogs he sees and barks at them getting on the defensive (whether he needs to or not) after getting rushed numerous times. Once I had a dog race across a busy road to get to us (with his owner screaming behind him that he was friendly) - how he wasn't hit by a car I have no idea.
  8. My guys do well on black hawk - giving the new flavour a try this month though for something different
  9. Such a fantastic photo My greys always have their heads hanging off the edge of beds - they can't quite seem to plan their position properly
  10. Hi Jules welcome! Definitely give dogmad a call - iggies are strange little creatures (I have one too) so I am sure she will be able to give you loads of advice. I would second her call on the fences, even with you out there, she could be up and over it in no time. Your little girl will need lots of time and lots of patience but you will end up with a funny little dog, there are really no words to properly describe an iggy!
  11. We were there today watching and the girls looked great
  12. There is also a difference between letting one off lead with good recall, and a pack situation. We were going to a regular greyhound meet last year. It was at a fenced dog park and the law in that council region said that greys could be off lead (muzzled). We refused to let our two off, they only got a run if/when there were either only a few or no other dogs in the park. A situation developed where other grey owners would just walk in and take off the leads - resulting in numerous greys tearing around the park chasing other dogs - not something non-grey owners appreciated of course! Many of them had good recall when just wandering around, but the vast majority did not when they were chasing. We decided not to go anymore, it was an accident waiting to happen. As much as I love greyhounds and think they make awesome pets (we will always have them), but you still need to be responsible for them (just as you do with any other dog).
  13. Oh Ripley enormous hugs to you. I am so sorry, Millie was a special girl.
  14. We have three. I would like one more iggy but the current guys are all very settled and happy. Not to mention I have to take husband's feelings into consideration ;) 3 is also really the limit for my FIL who looks after them when we go away so isn't fair on him either if we got another one.
  15. I have been reduced to a blubbering mess He was an amazing little dog - his attitude to life was extraordinary. I may not have posted much but I so enjoyed reading about his antics and was impressed with how he and you all coped with his disease. Thank you for sharing him with us.
  16. Oh Charlie another dol icon. I am so sorry, he was such a special boy
  17. Yes i would imagine that being caught and contained is pretty stressful for them.
  18. Oh Patch does the spin in one spot too - Oscar darts out from a safe spot to bark and encourage him I refuse to believe that she would do any of those naughty things - she is obviously an angel. I did somehow forget that Oscar is a bed vomitter too. A few nights ago I took Patch out to the toilet and came back to Oscar vomit (of what I think was dog poo) on the bed - all the while husband was sound asleep...
  19. Oscar - he whinges to be covered up. He will cry and sook until you go and find him to throw the blanket over him. Now he can do it himself, he just likes to manipulate me. OH always tells me to ignore him but it is over quicker if I just cover him He is the most stubborn dog I have ever known. Lilly - will squish into the smallest spot next to me and then breathe on me with her nose on my neck Patch is the slowest eater I have ever seen. He eats his kibble basically one piece at a time. We swear that lately he forgets he hasn't finished it (cause he needs to take a pee break after about 5 mins) and he will run inside unless i remind him there is still food. We have worked out one of us needs to sit next to him whilst he eats and rattle the dish to get his attention back - and split his food over 2 cups - so he gets one and then when he is done he gets another. Maybe 2 cups is too overwhelming for his pea brain to contemplate eating...
  20. Caz I am shedding a tear yet again for you, Leah and Buddy. I have also shared your story with those I know who use grooming salons and I wish there was more I could do. Still thinking of you...
