  1. As Miranda said. Highly qualified and respected professionals. Kirsti has published a number of papers on dog behaviour.
  2. I like the look of the leather collars 4 paws. I will try out my new Vasquez model over the next few days and let you know what I think. As I said I only use it at non Dogs NSW events.
  3. Yes 4 Paws, it is the new one without the buckle. They have assured me it is a better product and I will try it out and reply back here. didn't know they sold a leather model
  4. I've been using them for about 12 months and I find them very good. They are sturdier in the fabric than the normal martingale and don't fold over like some others. I haven't noticed any problems with the chain. They have a new model out which I am expecting in the post. I will let you know the differences. I mainly use them for special occasions like the upcoming PetExpo where Xena will meet & greet the public and do some tricks as I can't use a prong collar there.
  5. I thought Frank had stopped posting after my last post. What you need to understand Frank is that 'Dog' training is actually 'owner' training Please seek help and you will be suprised how quickly you the dog will pick it up and start to really enjoy your life together.
  6. Rottylover01 Steve has helped me with both my Rottys. Including a very agressive male. If you have the dedication he will be able to help you and your dog. Talk to him about a long distance course to get you started.
  7. This thread has been going for 3 days. When is the dog going to get some help?
  8. Thanks to everyone for your posts. When I started this I asked for some intelligent, unemotional information and we are getting it now. It does seem that there are two definite groups with Show dogs and Working dogs but I do believe we can meet and share each other's experiences and common enjoyment of our own, and other's breeds.
  9. Westren Sydney id just off the M7 at Horsley Park so it is fairly close to you. I have pm'd a contact. They are nice people and will probably let you train Friday nights.
  10. OMG Bitty, poor Blossom. You're getting some good advice here. I hope you can work through the problems quickly and get on with the training. Give her a big cuddle from her driver ;)
  11. I've gone back to Chuck bones for my dogs as the Lamb bones seemed to be too soft and wasn't cleaning their teeth. I'll keep it going foor a month and see if there's any improvement.
  12. Thanks PW. The last Rotty was aggressive but still not the Alpha. It seems to be a territory issue. I will do as you suggest and see if they get out of this habit.
  13. I have a Rotty and a Lhasa. Our other Rotty went to the bridge 2 weeks ago. The Rott and Lhasa have started to pee on their bedding in the lsat week. I use the hession bags with foam inserts and move them around to keep them in the sun but now they won't lay on them because they are soaked with pee. Has anyone struck this before? They are both 2 years old and have only just started this little trick
  14. Thank you Red Mal. But what is flooding?
  15. Ladies, nowhere did I see Mr Milan using whips, handcuffs or any other training aids including any rubber devices. Now sit , stay be calm and assertive
  16. Thanks for the link Sardog. Sorry to be so obtuse with my question. I was talking to a non DOLer and his name was mentioned. I'll go have a look see.
  17. I think they are called Sydney Dogsports club. I will try to find a number
  18. Great stuff. It would certainly suit Oz. I pinched the links for another forum. Hope you don't mind
  19. Erny's correct. Unless the owners take immediate steps ( and YES it will cost money) you are in grave danger of the dog doing this to you again.
  20. Start anywhere but always be consistent. Sounds like you don't want to commit to a full training plan so I would start with the clicker ( it's called reward based training) and work up to the Triangle later if you want to learn about Drive. The main thing to do is explain to all the family that you all have to be consistent with the training. No rushing through doors, no jumping or whatever you want to teach. Hopefully you will find that it is exciting for you and you will join your local club and take the dog to it's full potential. Remember it's probably more about training the owners in the beginning than training the dog.
  21. Thanks for your replies. Looks like this isn't a big topic at present I'll revive it from time to time to try and get some discussion.
  22. Totally agree with you but, as I said, cowboys will exist, the macho, bullshit people will try. I put Western districts and the South Coast Club up as a responsible clubs with good policy and backed up by honest people who are in it for the dogs. The supporters of Sch. have been beating their heads against the wall for long enough. It is a viable, dog enhancing sport, that deserves to be out in the open. I can feel people cringing about their pre concieved ideas and the need to be 'loyal' to their Breed Club, and that is fine. lets just get on with opening up our minds to the possibility of new adventures in dog sports.
  23. I don't know of any arrangement between Rotts and GSD clubs but I do know the GSD people went through a lot of heartache over the issue. I am personally interested in Rotts and hope to learn by and support the GSD people. Cramet and Arya have said what needs to be out in the open. People do have Police trained/ guard trained dogs and they have to 'lay low' when alll they do is their job. And the emotions and heartache have to be out in the open as well. Schutzhund and IPO aren't dirty words. This knowledgebank is accessible to all Australians and is a valuable and legitimate Sport. Let's get it out into the open.
