. Anything less than 100% AST blood .... its NOT an AST its just a cross bred dog. AST with 100% AST blood that finds itself born to a back yarder and thus having NO pedigree Paperwork to prove its parentage can find itself subject to the BSL. BUY registered, save yourself the Drama.

These little comparisons are great Rhaps but as yet you have still neglected to outline EXACTLY what it is you feel an APBT can offer you that a GOOD LOOKING AST cant??? Are you looking for a dog who can take down a bull? is that much call for that sorta thing in the burbs? or anywhere else these days? All im getting here is that you dont want a " pretty dog"? Sure i can concede that there are a few who breed over sized very bully type AST'S that are a far cry from the ancestors and a few even look as if they would find a 2 km jog being logged under the " too hard" pile, but if you have a good look around there are some very nice examples of the breed out there too... I just dont understand what it is you feel the APBT can do that an AST cant?
-
I assume the later part of that was aimed my way? I never said i agree that ANKC breeds will always be untouched by BSL so please dont put words in my mouth. I was agreeing with this..... Ppl registering their half bred mutts as AST'S with council offices all over this country is bound to have an effect sooner or later.... especially when a number of these dogs tend to be owned by less than responsible types!

Never fear Dogs NSW have cut a deal for the ANKC registered breeds. Amstaff is one of those, APBT is not. If they are indeed the same dog, you have to wonder why anyone would purchase an APBT , when there is the perfectly legal alternative in the Amstaff. The moral of the story is, want a bull breed, then buy one from an ethical ANKC registered breeder and you will be provided with a microchip and a slip of paper called a pedigree that will ensure your dog is not a found to be a "restricted breed" Many people want actual working dogs. Not ones that are just bred to look pretty. well said PPS... Rhaps.....Surely you are not about to sit here and tell me that the AST is NOT capable of WORK???? I can Assure you i dont breed solely for looks, ability and agility are two criteria that are extremely important at my kennel and both are shown in abundance here.

I for one am so Effing over Uneducated ppl buying dogs of various breeding for various reasons and then registering them as bloody AST'S!!!! Live with your own actions...

So your dog isnt from a registered breeder and doesnt have Pedigree papers (so could be anything) but you register him as an AST with ur council? Im glad you got your dog back but let this be yet another lesson for those who buy unregistered -
MY SUPER TINY tenterfield who is now ten , was born dead she was down for a while b4 i got her back she suffered some brain damage and just wouldnt eat had almost no appetite and just wasnt concerned about food...The first two years of her life i had to hand feed her nutrigel its the only reason she is alive today....Tne years on she acts like a 3 year old and will probably live to a very ripe old age... I used to get it from my vet and i would smear it onto her tongue after about 12 months she started licking it off biscuits and then gradually she started to eat the biscuit with the gel etc etc... Good luck.

I just recieved an email from this puppies owner yesterday to say she was doing well and spent the night with no poo or wee in her crate lol, they have their first private puppy lesson tonight so hopefully all goes well.... Amstaffs will work you out in about 3 minutes flat! Ppl need to be VERY consistant and forceful with their training, i agree with Rysup you must be tough! I dont believe getting up to a crying puppy is the way to go Sas i believe that encourages the pup to cry, you have just taught the pup when it cries you will come....Also a small crate with no where to poo and wee is not acceptable for a young pup as that will only FORCE the pup to sleep in its own crap.....A bed up one end with her scent blanket and a teddy and some newspaper down the other... If a pup is put somewhere where he/she is safe and warm then i tell ppl to ignore the crying and within a couple of nights you will be sleeping through the night as will your puppy...Worry about toilet training after you have the sleeping sorted, puppies will poo and wee at night... thats life guys.

Erny i did suggest that seperation might be the main issue on another forum..... He is a very social dog, and doesnt enjoy being on his own at all! Even when we are at shows he will make a MASSIVE song and dance everytime i leave his crate even when i have him covered, its very embarressing...he obviously suffers some seperation anxiety.... I have only done home based training for this issue...He is fine in a crate at home, i can leave him and go out of the house and he is fine, not a sound out of him...This problem only exsists when we are out in a strange place or if he is alone in one of my yards.....Guess he feel safe in my home. If he wasnt such a big energetic dog i would concider keeping him inside and crated whilst the girls were in season but thats not a practical solution for Him as i have 3 bitches so that would equate to a lot of time in a crate..Far too much time by my standards..... What other training can i do for independence? Im willing to give anything a shot..he is such a big smoocher and i dont like seeing him unhappy....He doesnt like seeing me unhappy at the noise either LOL

Thanks Erny for taking the time to post such a lenghty reply lol... I am home ALL day everyday with my dogs ( hence why this whinging is driving me nuts lol)...So the correction can always be delivered when its needed ... I dont allow my two dogs to run together when i have a bitch in season and i feel this is whats adding to the whinging ( as the one making all the noise is a very social dog and i feel he has to suffer a double whamy when a bitch comes in season..) This collar would only be on the dog when a bitch is in season and as the dogs are seperated when this occurs i dont have to worry about misguided aggression when the correction is given....Im pretty sure he would learn fast, i have an electric fence set up and he only touched that once...im sure electricity is the amstaffs kryptonite lol..... Ive solved the night howling by bringing him inside, he settles fast at night and is thrilled to be getting all the attention....Ive just got to find a solution for the day... Ill await an email from k9.... Thanks again

HI all....(cross posted from the general section as i was advised that id have more luck over here) Just wondered if anyone here has had any experience with these types of collars? Im seriously looking at getting something for one of my Amstaffs but i dont know anyone who has used them and i hate to purchase training aids like these without talking to ppl who have actually used them first.... My problem dog has taken to CONSTANT whinging when my bitches are in season...Ive tried everything...The girls are moved out of sight...Ive tried moving him further away but he gets louder ( he obviously is protesting the being alone as much as he is whinging to get to the girls in season)... Ive even tried bringing him inside but hes just at the windows constantly and im worried he will go thru one.... I have two males but only one makes this much fuss and just quietly its driving my nutting fuks lol.... So a few questions.... Do these collars work with whinging as well as actually barking? What sort of hit do they get? ie whats the voltage ( ive looked at a few collars and none seem to tell me the voltage, just says x amount levels of " stimulation" some collars say they work from whistles and vibrations...now whistles and vibration dont sound like much of a deterant to me ;) im leaning more towards the training collars with a remote control as i figure value for money will mean i can apply this collar for other uses should the need arise etc.... can anyone recommend these types of collars at all? Thanks in advance for any help

pmsfl Casey i have these images of rince and Loki skating around in olive oil having a bloody ball while you were out lol.... Seriously who keeps 20 lts of olive oil? that must have cost a mint.... Good luck with the clean up and dont stress it wont harm the dogs internally, they wouldnt have eaten much anyway it would taste like crap on its own and make them thristy..... Gotta love the charater dont ya?

Hi there, Sorry to hear of you pups HD.... If the breeder is aware of the issue have they not suggested any form of a refund or costs being paid etc ? Maybe best to find out exactly what u re dealing with b4 getting too caught up in who owe s what and then take it from there... I wish your pup all the best and hopefully you and your breeder can come to a happy compremise for the sake of all involved.

I am also a vegetarian and have been for well over 20 years ( im 30).... I always wonder why some ppl go vegetarian for a few years and then return to meat eating????? Anyhoo its very hard to make choices for others....I have two girls they both started off vegetarian but both eat the occassional meat now as they choose too, i will not force them not to eat meat just as i wouldnt force them to eat meat.....My eldest is 10 now and she is learning for herself what it means when you eat meat and so she only eats fish now ..she seems happy with that choice and its up to her...personaly i dont eat anything that once had a face. Same with my dogs i guess, i feed them barf, i dont like doing it but im a tad lazy too....I did have a malamute and he was on a vegetarian diet due to health issuse he had and boy that was alot of work..... Good on you for taking the time and the effort to do things right.....
