  1. don't get your dog to drop from a sit.....always heel your dog then tell it to drop.....if you take it from a sit, then as you get higher in obedience or trialling training your dog gets that bad habit of dropping when you want him to sit & stay for groups.....so always heel then drop.....if he is on his side that is fine......is he a dead dog (meaning is he laying right on his side) if he is that has to be fixed....but on one side is fine...

  2. I use to train her with throwing t he dumbbell & making a game of it......she was fine no problems until the border :( I have nothing against borders most of the ppl I know have them......now when she sees black n white.....she doesn't take her eyes off them......when i am in the ring I am just hoping there is not one in the other ring  she loves balls ....but the dumbbell is not one of her favourite articles..

  3. Hi I am having trouble with my GSD girl ....she will not retrieve on the flat or over the jump :( she has been attacked by a border collie 3 times & now when i throw the dumbbell she will not go out & get it....sometimes with a lot of encouragement she will.....I am trialling in open she is a lovely little heeler but the dumbbell is the downfall......anyone had the same problems.....I am not taking her to where this border is anymore until I get her confidence back.....any ideas would be appreciated.....thanks in advance

  6. Hi everyone...just wanted to let you know I delivered 14 puppies today :) I am very proud of myself as it is only the second time....the first I was only helping the breeder.....but this time I was on my own, with a not so helpfull neopolitan staffy cross  she nearly got me a few times, but I was too quick for her  they were my daughters dogs puppies....I am now a little worried that they will all survive....how long will they stay with their mother....when will you wean them off her....a little help I could do with

    Thanks in advance

  7. Bee sting for sure :) my GSD had the same reaction, her face was swollen just like your dog....her eyes were swollen & her breathing became laboured......it really frightened us.....she was only about 10months old....the vet said she is allergic to bees  so we watch her all the time....if she snaps at something we are hoping it is not a bee....it sure does give you a fright.....

  12. Hi Kaye...so sorry to hear about Maya :mad I too had our GSD Holly pts last tuesday 18th June..she was 10years old...I have cried every day as I miss her so very much..she gave us so much love & happiness....we stayed with her while the vet gave her the needle...we cuddled her & said goodbye....but you must not put yourself on a guilt trip for not staying with Maya...some people can do it, some can't...there is no shame in not been able to see your beloved pet pts....he knew you loved him so don't torment yourself...just remember all the lovely time you had together as I do :) my girl will be up there with your boy...she had a thing on labs :( it's hard but yes, we have to go on...not forget...but just remember you took away his pain...run big boy run :(

    RIP Maya.

  13. My GSD has just been pts...she had a tumour on the brain...but also she had pancreatitis...don't take this disease lightly it can be very painful for your dog...& it can or will kill them if you don't watch it...i gave my girl chichen breast fillets skinned, rice or pasta...my vet said no kibble...no fatty foods at all...

  15. Hi Jodie....my GSD she has gone blind & the eye specialist said her eyes are in perfect condition...he thinks it could be a bleed in the brain or a tumour... I know how you are feeling....I will not know until I go to a neurologist which could be a couple of weeks....so I am saying to you don't think the worst try to look on the bright side (which I know is hard) but I know everything will work out just fine :) will say a big prayer tonight for Ollie & you..our dogs have more get up & go than we think

  16. Miranda I thought that was very unfair to Greentea..there are a lot of people out ehre who do not know a lot about dogs...yes your are a breeder & show dog person...I am an obedience instructor & have obedience dogs...you are dividing show dogs & obedience dogs...which has been going on for a long time....Greentea only asked a simple question about sending her little pup away..I am sure she has the answer now..I am new here but I too thought that this was the place to get some answers on things we do not know about...you should be a little more suttle.

  17. Hello Greentea....I have heard of places where you can leave your dog & have them train your dog...I don't think it is a good idea..it is Your dog & you should train your dog yourself...You say you a not a good dog trainer, but that is why we go to dog obedience is to learn to train our dogs ourselves...the handler has to learn how to get his dog to sit, drop, stand, come & all the other commands that make your dog a good obedient dog..go to a obedience club or personal trainers that have groups & learn how to control your dog...it is better your dog knows that you can take control of him than someone else...go & have some fun for yourself & your dog.
