Hi all!
Ive been faced with an unusual situation and I’m not sure which scenario would be best for this dog. My dads farm maremmas had a litter, the runt’s belly ended up getting infecting and long story short she had to be removed from her mom (at 3ish days old). Then at two weeks, she needed surgery for a large hernia, after this time her mom wouldn’t take her back.
So, I have been taking care of this dog since it was a week old. Bottle feeding, training, and obviously cuddling too much. She’s been in my classroom everyday, socialized around 3 dogs, and hundreds of people. She is now almost 8 weeks old, and a decision needs to be made to either keep her as my own, or bring her back to the farm. I have a large fenced yard with two other dogs in it, we were not planning on getting a third dog but we have fallen in love with her.
Anyone out there with a maremma as a family pet? I’m very familiar with them as livestock dogs, but this girl has had such a different life, I don’t know if nature or nurture would be stronger ha
