  1. I know what you mean about the mentality of allowing dogs to roam here. There are quite a few people living in and around my street that think it is fine to let their dogs out for a wander around Mostly these dogs are friendly, but I always worry that they may get run over or something else could happen to them I particularly worry about a shar pei female that I see wandering around now and again, have not yet been able to discover exactly where she lives, but have seen her a few times over the past few years looking like she had pups (large teats). One day I was at home in my front room and heard a noise that sounded like puppies outside my front door. I got up and went to have a look, just in time to see the shar pei mum disappearing down the street and around a corner with about 4 or 5 puppies following along behind. I just stood there gobsmacked! Its one thing to let your adult dog wander, but puppies! Especially in Goulburn which is known to be a very high risk area for parvo ETA I didn't chase after mum and pups, probably should have. I have reported roaming dogs once that were causing problems, and didnt see them for a week or two, but they were soon back on the street. I usually dont bother reporting dogs roaming because there are too many, I will only call the rangers if there is an issue.

She was a beautiful old lady, very sorry for your loss.
  3. good news, luckily nothing is broken, just one very swollen hand! Yes I really should know better than to stick my hand in, and maybe next time I will remember, although it always happens so fast!
  4. Two of my dogs do not get on. After a few fights, they are now kept permanently separated, it is not worth the risk. But on Thursday night a door had been pushed closed but didn't catch. I came home late after being out and as usual they were all very excited, and the worst happened, dog jumped on door, it opened, and a fight was on. Because I know these two WILL injure each other I was desperately trying to break it up. My daughter was in another part of the house, she heard the noise and came running and between us we managed to break up the fight, but not before one of the boys had grabbed hold of my hand... I screamed and he let go very quickly, but the damage was done. It was my own fault for sticking my hand in between them, but I really wanted to break it up before they hurt each other. They are both fine, but I have a very deep puncture wound on one side of my hand and it is swollen up like a balloon. I cleaned it, betadined it, and bandaged it all up, then went off to work yesterday, and off to the doc after work. The doc went crook on me for going to work (and I was not very useful there anyway). I have now had a tetanus shot, am on antibiotics, and heading off for an x-ray soon. My hand is very sore and I cant use my fingers much. I can wiggle them but cant lift or do anything that puts pressure/weight on my fingers These two dogs are very people-friendly guys, and I think it was actually my old greyhound Clyde who accidentally grabbed my hand. He is a very placid, loving and laid-back dog, who is so well-behaved and easy to get on with, and normally I would say he would NEVER bite anyone, and I am positive he didn't intentionally try to bite me, so just goes to remind everyone never to stick your hand into a dog fight

  9. Can anyone tell me where to find this legislation please. Thanks ETA I can see where it states under what conditions a dog can be seized, and under what conditions a dog can be declared dangerous. The laws do mention a euthanasia order, however do not give any conditions under which such on order would be applied. I do know that in my area if a dog bites a person the rangers will apply for a euthanasia order. But does anyone know if a euthanasia order would be applied if a dog attacked another animal? Would it depend on the severity of the attack? What if a dog killed another animal, for instance a cat? I did see a thread on here recently where someone was asking about dogs being seized for killing a cat in Victoria, I can't find that one, but believe it would be different in NSW to VIC, however if anyone can link me to that other thread it would be appreciated.

  11. Sorry to hear about your loss greying-fast. Run free sweet Archie
  12. Wow Hoover is stunning! I haven't been on DOL much lately, although I was reading some of your threads about kelpies, and I missed finding out where you got him from - care to share? I have a soft spot for kelpies, I don't have one myself, but grew up with working line kelpies, all registered with the WKC... I was interested in your colours thread... growing up we had, over the years, two cream kelpies, a solid red, a black and tan, and a blue and tan. Because we had two creams it surprises me that they don't seem to be as common as the other colours. Anyway, sorry to go OT, and your dogs are gorgeous
  13. I would LOVE to go! Just need heaps of notice so i can get time off work.
  14. thanks for a great afternoon Nic hope you feel better soon Stacey! Nicci was very conservative and only ordered two pairs of sandals, but she got good hostess discounts on them
  15. Although all the males here are neutered, their urine still smells stronger than my desexed female.
  16. well you can see they are not phased at all
  17. Best of luck with your search, I will be interested to see which puppy you choose :p I grew up with working line kelpies, we lived on 5 acres and my mum loved them and has been a member of the WKC all her adult life, she still helps out with their newsletters and stuff even though she doesn't own a dog anymore (mum and dad are in their seventies and decided after their last dog died not to get another one). I have known Barbara Cooper from the WKC all my life and can second the poster who said that she would be easy to talk to and very helpful
  18. If you don't have your heart too set on a purebred, there is a gorgeous little kelpie cross girl on the Hawkesbury Pound thread in Urgent Rescues....
  19. Great photos ;) I have a little whippety snuggler myself ;)
