RIP Dave. Condolences on your recent losses Rozzie, and thank you so much for taking on these oldies and giving them a wonderful home in their twilight time.

I have a greyhound who is like this too *sigh* and as he stands almost as tall as me it is really hard to find somewhere he can't reach. He found the kids easter egg stash and ate two large chocolate bunnies and gave me a scare. He has also discovered that tupperware containers often have yummy treats inside so he chews holes in them, went through about 3 containers in one week

Well done

Potential future forever kid, just doing some research

I have looked up liver shunts and understand what it is. Can anybody tell me what is involved with the testing and what the testing may cost?

Hugs to you and Ollie dog Jodie, hope he is feeling better again soon.

Clyde is fine. I rang the emergency vet yesterday and had a chat, asked them what to look out for. The vet didn't seen to know as much as Bowser! He had to go and look it up. Kept a close eye on Clyde, no nasty symptoms, he is happy and alert, but will be watching him today to make sure all is ok.

Npot sure how he managed to do it but he did leave the foil behind (well most of it I think)

Clyde (greyhound) has been at it again. He discovered where I had hidden the kids easter eggs and has devoured two large chocolate bunnies ;) The only reason he didn't eat the rest was cause they are in boxes. Will he get sick? Does anyone know what symptoms I should be looking out for? I'm really worried now

Hi Sash Many people let their dogs sleep outdoors, and in certain circumstances that is fine. My dogs all sleep indoors though (and I have 6 here at the moment) for three reasons: 1. Canberra winters are very cold, and in my opinion too cold for the dogs to sleep outside (although mine sleep inside all year round :D ) 2. If they are inside they don't run around barking all night ;) 3. Because dogs are pack animals and they love comapny. They like to sleep inside with their family. Note that they don't have to sleep in your bed or even in your room though. I have a greyhound and a mastiff x who sleep on my couches (I gave up and bought couch covers) a staffy x who sleeps with my son, and 3 fosters who all sleep in the laundry. My dogs all used to sleep in the laundry before I started fostering, but now they won't all fit

Yay for Jack the boofer. And congratulations Mel, you really have come a long way with him Pats on the back all round

Grapes are apparently not good, and also don't feed processed meats like devon, salami etc

Glad to hear Alex is a bit better. Hoping for a speedy recovery for both your dogs

KC is a virus like the flu, and it constantly mutates, so yes even if dogs are vaccinated they can catch one of the 'new' strains. My girl is vaccintaed and still caught KC when boarding for 4 days at Christmas.
-
Hope they have a smooth recovery :D

Dogs do not need to go to the vet for kennel cough, it is a virus and they should recover on their own, but it does take about 3 weeks. That said... there is a danger of them developing a secondary bacterial infection that would need to be treated by antibiotics. As long as they are generally ok, still eating and drinking, and the cough is a dry cough, they should be ok. If they seem to be very ill or the cough becomes wet sounding, get them to the vet ASAP.

Very sorry Fifi, enjoy flying free at the bridge Sox

Hugs and kisses for the little Ollie frog-dog from Daisy and the pack

KayeL if you are going to keep fostering you will get used to kennel cough. Every foster I have had has had it. It is a virus, and usually it clears up on its own, but takes about 3 weeks to go away. It sounds as though your boy is very unwell though, and the snotty nose suggests a secondary bacterial infection which your vet is already treating with the antibiotics. He needs to be kept quiet, and please do contact your vet if you are worried, because sometimes dogs with kc can develop pneumonia as a secondary infection. Hope he makes a speedy recovery
