Well old girl, it has been over a year now since you left us. I still think of you often, and miss you. Mostly I dont cry any more but today I am feeling sad that you are not here. I often look at different breeds of dogs, and like researching about different breeds. For a while I seem to have been attracted to big red dogs, such as ridgebacks and viszlas. I have started reading about their temperaments, and it was only this week that I realised I have been trying to find another dog like you. You know I love the boys, and now our little whippy girl Ari, but you were a very special lady, and I am feeling sad that I will never find another one like you. I know I will have other dogs, and I will love them just as much, but there will never be another Hazel. I still love you beautiful girl, and hope you are happy 'over the bridge' or wherever you are now.

thank you I have the day free, but maybe it is a bit too far for me to go to watch a dog show

Great to hear some of you ar getting cooler weather! It is supposed to cool down here tomorrow. At least it was cooler last night, so we were off around 6.30 this morning, me and Ryan and Ari the naughty whippy girl. It was just beautiful being out that early, usually I don't go till around 7 but I think it is worth getting up that little bit earlier. I also took Clyde out for a walk, so that was about an hour of walking for me But it was geting a bit warm by the time I got home. cuchulain sorry about your infected mouth, hope it is feeling better soon!

Asari I am sure they enjoyed the short walk, they probably don't want to do much in the heat either! I was up early and took Matilda out for a walk, but it was quite warm already and not very pleasant. We have been sitting on around 35 degrees during the day and it had been cooling down nicely overnight, but didn't cool down much last night at all 37 degrees forecast here today, but after that it is supposed to cool down a bit. I hope that everyone else gets some relief from the heat too!

I had a very disturbed sleep last night and really didn't want to get up early, so just a short walk with Arizona whippet this morning. I will try to get motivated to take another walk this evening. As usual, the novelty is starting to wear off and i am not really looking forward to the walks. Just as well I started this thread! It would be nice if I had someone to walk and talk with, I think I would be much more motivated then. When our obedience classes start back in February I think I will ask around and see if there is anyone who lives nearby who would like to walk with me.

Cuchulain I will be interested to see responses to your post as I have the same problem with my foster dog Hugo! he generally walks nicely on lead, but as soon as he sees another dog he nearly pulls my arm off and it is almost impossible to get his attention (My OH has Menierre's disease too )
-
that would make it hard with no street lights hope it cools down for you soon! Wish we had somewhere round here where the dogs could swim casima! That must be great

Just went out for a walk with Hugo because it is much cooler outside than in at the moment. Trying to get the cool air inside, but my house is old and poky and even when I have all the windows open the air doesn't seem to flow through too well *sigh* cuchulain, I love many breeds of dogs and have a 'to own one day' list that is way too long, but ridgebacks are somewhere towards the top of the list I have admired them at dog shows, but would really like to get to know one better!

Whats The Most 'out There' Thing You Have Done

yep done that too -
A very late good morning to all Well done to all the dog-loggers who have managed to get out and about despite the heat! Cuchulain what sort of dog is Max? I didn't get to bed till late last night because of my son's farewell party, so had a bit of a sleep-in this morning. I have decided to put the walk off until this evening (hopefully it will be cooler!), and stay home and get some housework done today. Nobody here, just me and the dogs, and they are all flaked out so it is nice and peaceful at the moment I just went through the thread and put everyone's names in the first post. There are quite a few! I didn't think there would be so many, I thought all DOLers were paragons of virtue who walked their dogs religiously every day, rain, hail or shine Mind you, there are a few people who posted in here that they wanted to join in and have not been heard of since. Do you think I should send them PMs reminding them of their pledge to walk-the-dog?

welcome back

Farewell beautiful Flash, I was one who was fortunate enough to meet you, and what a lovely lady you were. Jaana I hope the healing process is not too long, and that soon you will be able to remember Flash with smiles instead of tears.

Just a short walk this morning with my two greyhounds. They are very well-behaved so I can take both of them at once, the only problem is Clyde (the older one) just likes to amble and sniff and pee on everything, while Ryan wants to go at a much faster pace :D I will have to take Ryan for a walk on his own sometimes, or with my little whippy girl, it must be her turn next. have to rush off, working today. i will put the list of names in the first post tomorrow PS I love hearing stories of everyone's 'adventures' on their walks
-
that was the whole point of this thread - since i started it I will feel sooo bad if I don't go for a walk!

Well done everyone It was the lovely Matilda's turn for a half hour walk this morning ;) Tildy is a lab x shepherd that I rescued from Hawkesbury Pound. Nobody can understand why she wasn't adopted from the pound, and why she is still here as she is a lovely girl, very attractive and soft-natured. Just wondering if people would like me to put a list of dog-walkers in the first post so we can keep an eye on who is walking and who isnt! If you would like me to put your name in the first post just let me know Ok have to run now, a trip to the beach today then when I get home I have to do the shopping for my son's farewell party tomorrow night, as I have to work tomorrow so won't have time to shop then!
-
I didn't realise so many people would join me in this thread ;) Tomorrow I have the day off and am taking the kids to the beach, but my son doesn't like to get up really early so I WILL get up in time to take a walk :D

I remember when photoshop first came out and it only had one undo.... so like you have been doing you had to keep closing it or saving your work as different versions as you went along in case you didn't like something

I have 3 dogs, plus my son's dog that he is leaving with me when he goes off to join the Navy next week. I also usually have a foster or two. But I don't walk them all that often :D I do have a large back yard and they get lots of attention, but I know they would be happier if they got more walks - even though my own dogs (greyhounds and a whippet) are very laid back and don't go stir crazy, they would still enjoy getting out more. AND I have put on a lot of weight, so walking would be of benefit to me too. So I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who doesn't walk their dogs a lot either, and would like to join me in this thread to encourage each other to get out and walk more. I always have good intentions, but then I am too tired, my feet hurt, too busy etc etc (or just too engrossed in DOL :D :) ) So I thought this thread would be a way of holding myself accountable, kind of like a weight loss or quitting smoking thread or something like that. Anyway, here goes: Day 1: walked Hugo (foster) for half an hour this morning, then took Clyde (greyhound) for a short amble as he is an older guy and doesn't really like long walks. ETA if you want to have a go at me or others for not walking their dogs enough, or if you want to point out self-righteously how often you walk your dog, please start another thread so we can keep this one positive and encouraging! I have several dogs and usually a couple of fosters too. I work very hard to try and ensure there is not excessive barking to upset the neighbours. ALL dogs are inside of a night time, and during the day my dogs are usually inside when I go out, and the fosters outside, to minimise any problems. When I am home I am constantly monitoring them and any barking is dealt with quickly. I do have a lot of dogs here at the moment, I am trying to rehome some fosters and get the numbers down again (one is going tomorrow). Yesterday I was at work and my kids (one is 18) were at home. They usually keep an eye on the dogs. They decided to go to the movies and get their hair cut yesterday and went out leaving ALL the dogs out in the yard (note that there are seperate sections, not all dogs running loose together!) And our new neighbours, who have been moving things in over the last week, moved their dogs in yesterday. Apparently there was a LOT of barking going on from my dogs, their dogs, and the dogs on the other side of them :D The new neighbour (whom I used to work with) mentioned it to me, and I apologised, she was ok about it, I just said I would try to keep my dogs quiet (most of them are inside with me at the moment, till I have to go to work later today) and hopefully when all the dogs get used to each other things will settle down. So last night, mine were all locked inside, sleeping quietly, and the new neighbours dogs went off at about 5am and wouldn't shut up! aaaaarrrrgh!
