  1. I will agree with you I grew up with working line kelpies, and the show lines just look a little 'odd' to me ;) I have 2 greyhounds and a whippet, but am looking at getting into showing at some stage. the big problem will be choosing a breed. At the moment I am tossing up between a greyhound, a Borzoi, or a Ridgeback. If I did go the Ridgie I might like to have a go at dog sports too. Does anyone know of any Ridgies that are good at obedience or agility?
  2. poocow emailed it to me and I can open it, thanks so much ;) Look out dogs shows, here I come ;)
  3. If you would do that and email it to [email protected] that would be great, thanks I am going to join at some stage soon, just haven't got around to it yet.
  4. poocow I have been to the DogsNSw site and tried to open that darn file many times, but when I click on it I only get a blank page. Is there anywhere else that lists the shows?
  5. I just love the photos of Frodo - whenever I see that you have put a new thread up I get all excited His photos really make my day :D
  6. Casima that would have been frightening We seem to have new people moved in around the block, they have two large dogs, look like bull arab types, possibly just mixed breed 'pigging' dogs, but when I walk past the corner these two dogs go off, barking madly - and their gate is only around 4 feet high so I am not actually game to walk down that part of the street now. Maybe they are perfectly friendly but I just don't want to risk it! Especially if I have my whippet with me because she is only tiny, or one of my greyhounds as they have to wear a muzzle and wouldn't even have a hope of defending themselves if these guys did jump the fence :D Sorry to ehar Max isn't feeling well Cuchulain ;) Hopefully he will pick up in a day or so. I wouldn't worry if he is only off his food for a few days, mine seem to all do that now and again. I haven't been out for a walk yet today, i was doing some housework early this morning and then came down with a migraine. I ended up having a sleep for a couple of hours and am feeling a bit better, might go out later when it cools down.
  7. My dogs rarely get fleas, at the moment they do have one or two and are scratching. I would like to try and avoid using spot ons, I don't like putting chemicals on my dogs unless absolutely necessary. Is anyone using apple cidar vinegar? Do you use it in the dogs water? Or spray it on them? If you spray it on their coat, do you dilute it? How much water do you add? I would like to try it. If this doesn't help then I will have to got to a commercial flea treatment.
  8. Matilda's turn today ;) I don't really feel like walking most mornings and it is an effort to get going, but once I start I usually enjoy it.
  9. glad to hear things went a bit better today cuch Today was Dozer's turn for a walk. I really didn't feel great when I woke up this morning and it was tempting to stay in bed, but I wanted to walk Dozer as he is my sons dog and I am worried he may be missing Alex too. Dozer is not very dog social at times, so while I am at work he is kept seperated from the other dogs, and Alex used to be home more than I was and Dozey used to hang out with Alex most of the time.
  10. one thing to consider - how long have your friends lived there? If they have lived at the house for over a year and haven't had many dogs coming and going the risk would probably be small of contracting any diseases. If they have only recently moved into the house then you have no idea what dogs have been in the yard and the risk would be greater.
  11. go jetty jet! Have been out with Hugo this morning. I don't start work till later today so we had a slightly longer walk, and we also did some training on the way. He is doing really well with sit and drop and I am starting to teach him a commando crawl
  12. poor cuch you are really having a bad time of it! I did the split shift this morning - took Ryan and Ari for 20 minutes then came back and took Clyde for 20. These are my lazy houndies (greyhounds and whippet), they are quite happy with a 20 minute walk, probably why they are my breeds of choice
  13. just popped back in to say hi again as i wasn't in a very good mood this morning, sorry. Feeling a bit better now, but I am still really missing my son. Sorry to hear you haven't been well casima, and cuch I really hope poor little Max feels better soon!!!
  14. I really do hope we get to see them again
  15. Hi guys. Sorry I didn't pop in yesterday, and we didn't walk either. I had to leave home at 6.30am yesterday to take my son to Canberra for his induction into the Navy. We could have walked last night but I was actually feeling very sad and didn't feel like doing anything. Forced myself out for a walk this morning though with Matilda. Hoping I feel a bit happier soon.
  16. hello to all Hugo and I went out this morning, his loose-lead walking is improving with all this practice :D he still likes to try and drag me to every tree though so he can pee on it, and he gets very excited when he sees other dogs. But we are working on this. then my daughter arrived home after being away for a week, so I dragooned her into helping and we took both the greys and whippy girl for a short walk
  17. Just trying to get this straight in my head... as I am starting to work on this with Hugo. At the moment I say 'Hugo look', I have a treat in my hand and raise it up to touch my nose and as soon as he looks at my eyes I give him the treat, and we then continue walking. So should I get him to look and treat but then use another command to walk on so that he does not get the treat and move off straight away? (just to add we work on 'look' at home as well, and at the momnet I am only using it when we are out and there are no distractions, as I don't want to use it yet under distraction as i am not confident he would give me his attention yet). So am I doing this right? And when you say a verbal marker - is that just something like 'good boy'?
  18. cuch I tried clicker training once a few years ago and had the same issue of not having enough hands. It would be interesting to hear how people make it work successfully.
  19. cas, sorry you are feeling sick I didn't get out last night after all, worked back late then spent 2 hours on the phone with my bestie who is having a rough time at the moment But we were out this morning I decided to take my son's dog Dozer for a walk. My son never walks him, and as he is leaving to join the navy on Monday and leaving Dozey with me I thought I had better include him in my walking 'schedule'. Dozer is a shocker to walk though, he is a little fat staffy cross with a huge attitude, who pulls like nobody's business and goes off his nut barking and lunging whenever he sees another dog. Walking him can be quite embarrassing! But hopefully if I am walking him regularly this will improve.
  20. aww how cute. I think I will have to come and visit No walking here this morning, I have woken up with a terrible headache, struggling to get to work as it is. I am hoping the headache dissipates during the day and I can go for a walk this evening instead.
  21. Well done guys! Good on you for starting BMP You have just reminded me why I prefer dogs with smooth coats :D BTW what do you mean BOTH show dogs, do you have two now?
  22. Thanks guys. Some of them are just very special. Janna I hope you are starting to feel better. And Kate so sorry to hear about Rachel, I remember meeting her at your place, she was a really beautiful girl.
  23. just a short walk today and I have to type fast coz i am a bit late... one of the fosters had an upset tummy so i had to clean up diorrhea from the laundry this morning It is lovely and cool here today though and we had some rain overnight, everything is wet and fresh outside I usually walk in my fake crocs, and this morning my feet got all wet but even that was lovely and refreshing :p cuch so sorry to hear you are having a bad time, hope that things start to look up for you soon!
