Fleas Seem To Be Gone But Dogs Are Still Scratching
Daisy replied to Daisy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ummm... really dumb question here but I am guessing the dogs don't drink the tea? Do you spray it onto them? -
Like many people we have had a bit of a flea problem lately. Even though I seem to have gotten rid of the fleas (no visible signs of them), some of my dogs are still scratching, to the point that one of my greyhounds is starting to get patches under his fur that almost look like grazes Is there anything I can use to help ease the itch, or do i need to take him to the vet?

Glad to hear Max is feeling better! I am still walking most days, just not always 'logging' my walks
-
This I can vouch for, I have seen Diva doing her 'post' impersonation
-
just to add that I expect to always have more than one dog and my dogs will always be a mixture of rescues and registered purebreds
-
I have 3 rescue dogs and a purebred from a registered breeder, who also happens to be listed on DOL. DOL has certainly influenced my decision on where to source dogs from. My next dog will be a purebred pup from a registered breeder and I hope to start showing :D I know the breeder and her dogs well, and am waiting for a pup from a particular mating, and since the bitch in question is not 12 months old yet I will be waiting round 2-3 years.

so glad she is safe and sound!

Is It Right To Change A 7 Yr Old Dogs Name?
Daisy replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
As a rescuer, I rarely ever know what the dogs name has been before it comes to me. They learn a new name pretty quickly, and don't seem at all upset -
glad you got outta there before the rain hit Bear I got home not too late so didn't get a scolding Who got BIG? How did IW4ME and Diva go in group? It was a very social outing today, nice to catch up and to meet IW4ME

9am with sweepies, Hounds are on first after sweepies, so for the best dogs in the world, probably a good idea to be there shortly after 9am ;) definitely couldn't miss the best dogs in the world!!

Hope everyone is doing well. I have had a bad week walking-wise, I have been so busy and so tired I just haven't been able to drag myself out for walks in the morning. I did take Hugo for a walk Wednesday morning, and then took him to dog training that evening. I felt bad though, so got up early today and took Dozer for a walk, then took the greyhound boys out this evening. it was pretty much dark by the time I got home though, and the boys saw the puddy-tat before I did None of us saw the puddy till it was right under our noses and it took off, Clyde started after it but pulled up pretty quick, but surprisingly my amiable little Ryan really set off after the running puddy, and it always amazes me how much speed a greyhound can get up to from a standing start till they hit the end of the 2 metre lead (oh my arm/shoulder/neck). thank goodness Mr Puddy got away though!

ok I was going to stay home and do some housework tomorrow, but now i think I will HAVE to go to tarago, even if it is just for a little while What time does the dog judging start?
-
ooooohhhhhh... keshwar and diva = afghan and borzoi cuddles
-
Well congrats to Howie, and sorry everyone else got wet. I am working tomorrow, so no show spectating at Tumut for me :D Is anyone showing at Tarago on Sunday?
-
Any results yet? How did the DOLers go - I am pretty sure SkySoaringMagpie was going, who else went? If I didn't have to work I would have gone along to watch.

Max is growing up fast cuchulain I was AWOL on Friday as I had to go to Sydney for a work training course, but took Dozer and Ari out yesterday
-
;) Have been out with Dozer this morning, the only bit of me that still hurts is my toe, it is pretty sore, I don't think it is broken, just badly bruised.
-
just took the greyhounds out for a walk and somehow managed to trip up the gutter and fall flat on my face I have a very sore toe, two sore knees, an aching back and sore hands - what a dufus!
-
hello, anyone home?? I was awol again on the weekend, I seem to have so much on at the weekends at the moment i am exhausted by the time Monday comes around! Although I didn't go walkies, I had a very doggy day on Sunday, spent most of the day at Gunning Show hanging out at the dog show, which was great fun We didn't go out this morning, but I went for a nice walk this evening, my daughter came too and we took Ari and Happy.

Very interesting question. From my own experience, I own a staffy cross desexed male, Dozer, who shows very inappropriate body language around other dogs, therefore I am careful when introducing new dogs. Twice over the last 12 months he has got into scuffles with a foster dog, the first time when a door was accidentally left open, the second time when he seemed fine with another dog and then they had a spat for no reason. Neither time did he inflict any damage on the other dog. Dozer, however, has a hatred of one of my greyhounds. Despite them living in the same household for over 4 years now, he cannot be trusted with Clyde (greyhound) and I now keep them permanently seperated. I do not know what triggered Dozer's hatred of Clyde, but I do believe that he would try to kill Clyde if he got the chance. The very last time Dozer attacked Clyde, he had him by the back of the neck and was trying to shake him as he does with his toys - I believe trying to kill him. Before I realised how serious the situation was, there was a series of fights that escalated, to the point that Dozer did some very nasty damage to Clyde, taking pieces out of him. So while Dozer displays bite inhibition with other dogs, with Clyde he does not inhibit his bite at all. Leading one to think that perhaps bite inhibition is a choice not an unthinking response.
