  1. Just for ANZAC day. Photo was taken on our recent trip to Clermont.
  2. I may be biased but a mini schnauzer might fit. They don’t shed hair, very loyal and very intuitive. They love spending time with the family. Small and very robust. I have always owned these and bred quite a few. Those that get the chance love the beach, both sand and water. My little girl is 6 and loves playing ball. The only thing is some can be a bit yappy. But not all and maybe that comes down to training. They also need grooming about every 8 weeks or so but they really do require brushing at least once a week as they are prone to getting knots but if you spend 5 minutes once a week it’s really not a problem. They are highly intelligent and personally I love them and wouldn’t be without. Good luck with your choice.
  3. Happy birthday little fella. It’s nice to hear good stories of dogs living to a very old age for a change. Even if his body is a bit rickety. Good on you.
  4. I was thinking because she knows I’m usually a push over with everything. But she was always so much better when Zena was still with us as I always did Zena first and then by the time it was Mollys turn she was eager for a bit of one on one attention. Or that’s at least what it seemed like to me.
  5. Not sure how much Zac weighs but he is just a mini schnauzer and more on the smaller size for a male. Fingers crossed for him and his humans
  6. A photo of one smug, uncooperative, recently groomed (today) Molly. Why is it my own is my worst customer.
  7. Maybe it sounds promising for little Zac too then. Thankyou

Sorry to hear your girl is now gone. Such a hard decision in a terrible situation. My thoughts are with you. At least you can take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and is comfortable with no pain. Look after yourself and the kids now. Take care. RIP Kaos
  9. Wow. Thanks for your info. Sorry to hear things ended badly. Not nice. Apparently little Zac was diagnosed quickly. It just happened one morning he woke up and couldn’t walk and was in a lot of pain. No prior symptoms I don’t think. His blood tests are all good now though. He is on cortisone. He is usually such an energetic little guy but has been very lethargic although they are seeing some improvement in him. I haven’t seen him in a while so I can’t make any comments and don’t know the total full story. He is on a diet of meat broth and cooked meat and they are trying Chinese herbs also. They are hoping to have him off the medication in about 6 months. Hopefully theirs is a success story. Will keep updating here when I receive more information.
  10. All the best for this afternoon. Thinking of you all. Hugs to Kaos.
  11. I love the whole set up. Absolutely brilliant. Good job. Happy puppies.
  12. It’s nice that you have a decent vet who can tell you how it is but what a difficult situation. As P says maybe sooner rather than later but I don’t know if I could make that call. Although watching a dog fade and look so sad with cancer isn’t great either. Deep down we know that we have to think about how our little friends are feeling and that usually the decision made will be what is technically the right one. I certainly feel for you. Hugs to you and yours. Take care and roll on Monday when you can talk to your vet.
  13. That’s tough news. Poor Kaos
  14. Don’t know if this really counts as technically he’s not my dog. One of Mollys pups ( almost 2 now) frequently comes and stays with us and whenever he sees my mother in law, ( who lives in a granny flat off our house) he barks so loudly and even though we try to stop him he just won’t. So she tends to stay away. I love that boy
  15. A friend of mine owns a mini schnauzer, who is almost 2 years old. He has just been diagnosed with immune mediated poly arthritis. I have never heard about this before. I googled it and kind of understand what it is. I would just like to know if others have dealt with this and what is the dogs prognosis.
  16. Another feathered friend from our Clermont trip.
  17. LOL. ...... of course being a schnauzer, in comes half the yard.
  18. My Molly does this all the time. She loves to get out on the grass and she rolls and rubs her back vocalising the whole time. Happy noises. Different to when she gets “itchy”. And yes I agree try to keep the chemicals to a minimum.
  19. So sorry to hear your bad news. It’s not nice but it truly sounds like you made the right decision, be it a hard and difficult one. He was a gorgeous looking boy and I bet he had a wonderful life. Take care. My thoughts are with you. Rest easy Kyojin.
  20. Found some feathered friends this week on a quick trip to Clermont Qld. OH had to do a brief job there and I had the privilege of joining him for the drive. (12 hour drive for him to do a 2 hour job. Go figure) I had a great morning walking around their lagoon. Lots of birdlife. And of course the group of very friendly ducks.
  21. I personally don’t understand why you don’t think roaming is a problem. Good luck to you with such an understanding neighbour. I wouldn’t like a large dog just wandering into my yard several times a day/week. I have had 2 cats killed by wandering dogs. Both in my own yard, so not the cats fault. Plus many times my own dogs and I have been bailed up in the streets by wandering dogs. And I have also been nipped while on my own driveway. (Got abused by the dog owner too ???) Plus I always believed that it was illegal for a dog to be off lead except in designated areas. Please for your neighbours and your dogs own safety fix that problem. And yes desexing is a good idea but that will only fix part of the problem. He will need more training afterwards because he will still think the grass is greener on the other side.
  22. This is going to be too long for the dear thread so here I am...... Dear Zena, Today is exactly 12 months since we had to let you go. Today has been very tough just as it was a year ago. We have still not come to terms with your passing and we are constantly thinking of you and talking about you. Even though we know there was nothing we could have done to save you it still doesn’t stop us wishing we had tried. We have got through the year relatively ok but it’s just not the same around here without you. Camping trips are very different too. Molly and Lucy cat are doing fine. Molly has really taken on the task of looking after us and shares herself between your dad and I. She’s a funny little girl and there is so much of you in her. She is such a sweetie and we’d be lost without her. Lucy cat has really taken on the job of being the oldest 4 legged now. She comes in every night and with her annoying cat ways makes Molly move from the seat between dad and I just so she can sit there. It was your seat. Most of your 4 legged family still come for visits too. Molly always has company. Poor Snoozy, he’s not too good. He now has diabetes and is struggling to put weight on. Our fingers are crossed he can get better real soon. Poor Boris, (the father of all your pups) will soon be joining you at the rainbow bridge. He’s not too great these days. Old age !!! One of your favourite people, Katherine, had a baby last year and he stays with us a few times a week. You were not too fussed on kids but I know you’d love this little guy. Surprisingly Molly does. I have finally finished your photo book. It was something I wanted to do right from the start but just couldn’t bring myself to do it. But I always knew I’d have it finished for today. What started out as just a few great photos soon snowballed and is now an 80 page book showing off your entire life from start to finish. Yes, I do take too many dog photos and it was just too hard to pick a few. The book is awesome and it helped me this morning. My gosh, you were so photogenic. Zena, I just really hope that you knew how much we loved you and that you did have a good life. When we picked you from your litter we just didn’t know how much of a special girl you were going to be. I think when we lost your mate, ( our first schnauzer) when you were only 6 months old, that’s when I realised. Those following weeks when I was so upset at losing my best mate of 10 years you really were there for me. That’s when you became my constant shadow and made me laugh at your antics every day. And I mean every day. You really were such a comical dog. An awesome, amazing dog. Without you I would have been lost. Now I have Molly and I promise you that she will be looked after and I won’t let anything within my power take her away from us. Like you she deserves the best. I just wish we could have fixed you and done so much more. We are so proud to have known you and happy that you were a part of our lives. Your whole family miss you like crazy. One day we will be together once more. We love you Z. from Mum, Dad, Molly and Lucy.
  23. I know I haven’t been here for a bit. Just plain busy!!! This is a photo of Molly with her Easter visitors. They stayed for 3 nights with us. The black schnauzer is Mollys son. Neo is a big boy but she loves having him around. Loves to play with him. He is not quite 2 years old. The little pup is a new addition to Neo’s family. Luna, a little girl from a breeder in Mackay. A very energetic girl. Molly seemed to like her as well. All 3 got on very well.
  24. Congratulations on your new additions. I bet they are so gorgeous.
