Hi there! i believe that if your dog cant be in a restrained crate, then at least a harness/ belt of some sort should be worn. imagine a 30 kilo dog sitting in the middle of a car, having an accident and seeing your dog go out the windscreen. our dogs are our children, there safety is of paramount importance :)

thanks! yes, we have been taught from day one with our golden retriever taking him too dog training that even the slightest redness, kicking, head shaking, odor, discharge or temperature change in ears needs to be seen too asap. it was lucky we had the appointment on saturday. after putting the special liquid in his ears and massaging them thoroughly i give him his breakfast or dinner so the chewing also aids the medication to work its way right down into the canal with his chewing motions. i guess we just feel terrible, having our new baby and him already getting an infection. - We are sooooo thorough with both of our dogs (call us over protective to some extent) so im glad i did pick up that it wasn't right, but still feel awful.

thanks, the reason why we kind of excluded his food, was he has had it since he was weaned off, and already having a vet check in between that time with nothing there we thought maybe it wasn't that. His feet are in immaculate condition, which our vet commented on, there is no trace on his little paws thank goodness!! other than that he is extremely healthy looking. our breeder is local, literally 15 mins away from us (extremely lucky). he has been in the rain for no more than 5 mins at a time as its too cold, wet and dirty so its only outside for toileting thats it at the moment. the only other thing i can think of is he has had 2 baths, one from his breeder and one with us, but we didn't do his face or head. perhaps some water got trapped in both ears whilst having his coming home bath at 8 weeks and 3 days? i'm looking to wean him off the Royal canin, as we have found that it is soooo salty. can you recommend any other great dry food whilst you're here ? :p

Hi Guys, just hoping someone could shed some light for us. we have had our beautiful 10.5 week old chocolate labrador puppy, Oakley, for just over 2 weeks now. we took him for his second lot of vaccinations this Saturday just gone and our vet did a thorough examination. he discovered that Oakley had a yeast infection in his ears - very mild. which i noticed there was a slight redness on the thursday but no kicking or shaking of his head. he is on treatment for it, however, it has baffled me how he came to get this in the first place. - we are extremely careful and thoroughly check our dogs every day. Our vet said he could have came to us like it or its just one of those things that they get sometimes. We immediately notified the breeder who thought it was very strange, and excluded things like his food, and her vet gave all pups a clean bill of health etc. He is fed Royal Canin Labrador Junior. but we are just wondering is it something we did? its a real shame especially in this critical period, i don't want him hating his ears being touched for life!

9 Week Old Staffy Puppy Not Eating And Underweight
cara&lockie replied to Darby's topic in Puppy Chat
thats absolutely no problems at all! i hope this beautiful baby gives you many years of joy. unfortunately some breeders these days breed for a desired colour, with very little attention being on soundness, type, temperament and health. which i think might have been the case for little beau. please do not hesitate to ask if you need anything at all from down here in tassie! goodluck with your new pup!! cheers -

i forgot to add, i really do think you need to report this breeder and even the vet! - someone else could suffer greatly as could another puppy. -

i am so terribly sorry about what happened with Beau. (im actually sitting here in tears, as im typing this). im so glad that he is at peace and not suffering anymore, although, i do highly commend your efforts and know that you did everything you could for this little baby!! you say you are awaiting a new pup from the apple isle, is that tasmania? if so, i live in tasmania and i am more than happy to drive where ever your pup is located if you havent met the breeders, to ensure they are reputable and check out the pups for you. i would also take my dog trainer (who only owns staffordshire bull terriers and liases with alot of the staffy breeders here in tasmania.) i can even run the name by her and ask her opinion for you if you like. you can email me if you like [email protected] where i can give you my number. hope you and your family are okay. xxx cara -
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0055937 ...this is a scientific study about "Neutering Dogs: Effects on Joint Disorders and Cancers in Golden Retrievers"...not a Blog or someone's opinion about neutering....I hope you are aware of the findings respectively that your vet discussed all these findings with you.... ETA:...http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0102241...the findings from the first study prompted this study from 2014; the second study confirms the finding from the first, also indicating that the Golden Retriever is a breed that is very susceptible regarding an increase in severe diseases linked to early de-sexing. ETA:...my apology for going off-topic. @willem, i was coming back today to post a similar post with regards to desexing! great minds think alike?

No Labrador should have blue eyes - not even the chocolates. Labrador puppies, like many others are born/ can be born with blue eyes, they soon change to a brown after a few weeks.
