  1. I was looking for something like uberpuppies a while back but didnt find anything, there is https://www.borrowmypooch.com.au/ which I think is closest but its one persons dogs at a time?~ I know so many people who would just love to play with dogs but cant necessarily own one, and they can completely brighten a workplace too. That lady is really making a lot of money off that, $200 +$45p/h for just one pug, minimum 3 hours = $335 minimum. I dont think any of my dogs can handle 3 hours of playing in one go let alone be comfortable/happy in an outfit like those while playing
  2. Thanks for your responses! I'll try that next time :) I normally do brush her with treats though (we are down to one treat after combing every limb or section... because originally she hated combing and it takes me a long time to comb her as she already has 4-5inch hair) so its not like this caused me to go and get the treats, but i also dont want her to associate grumbling/nipping with treats
  3. What should be your response if you accidentally hurt your dog when grooming (pulling on a knot which I didn’t know was there) and she grumbles and nips the comb (or your hand)? She is still a puppy so while nipping has reduced to almost nothing I’m still VERY occasionally redirecting to toys if she gets mouthy during play, but this is a very different situation. I stopped, and then went over that area with a slicker brush again and gave her treats, then slowly and more carefully went over it with the comb again giving treats because I didn’t want her to hate that area being touched… is this what I should have done? About a month ago, she had some discomfort at a vet visit with anal glands she became very touchy about being touched near that end so I ended up having to do some counter conditioning/desensitisation with her. (she has been raised in a purely positive manner) Ive also been told not to stop when a puppy grumbles as they can learn that growling makes people stop combing etc?
  4. She is either adventuring, playing or sleeping soundly. She loves to explore her surrounding and is very adaptable and comfortable everywhere either being centre of attention at a party or chilling at a café or camping trip. She loves to learn and can be naughty and impatient too. Very happy go lucky pup, has random burst of energy but otherwise quite laid back. Loves to splash in the water but doesn’t actually like swimming. I think we are the perfect match Differences: She is blonde and I’m brunette. I like food more and am probably clingier than her too… And I shed more than her!
  5. They look like they're having a ball! :) very beautiful ballerinas
  6. Coton de tulear was my first choice of breed but they werent available in australia when i was looking! So very tempted! definitely on my want list but not just yet
  7. Depends where you are? :) In our house in Melbourne which is fairly cool throughout the year I dont think its super necessary (none of our dogs have ever woken up in the night to drink water previously when they have slept on the bed either, has yours?) but when I am camping I have water available in the tent as it can get hot in summer in the morning
  8. I would feel the same I am so over people letting their dogs off leash where they are not allowed (even if they're friendly), or when they have no recall from distractions or are aggressive/territorial at all There should be some kind of minimum knowledge of dog ownership responsibilities and rules before people are just allowed to get one Just yesterday at the pet store, a lady was actually laughing that her dog was going to "get snappy with my little one" and letting her nutty dog approach mine at full pelt and I had to quickly swoop her out of there.
  9. Thanks :) i have a my pet warehouse near me, will check out there! i was looking near the leashes and they only ever seemed to have the less than 2m ones (i hadn't actually looked for tie outs just yet just long leads) but knowing me i probably walked past them anyways... Thank you for the offer Thistle you are too kind! <3 but i'll go check them out today~ We were going to lake elizabeth campsite near the otways with a group of 30 or so people (who are now looking for a lodge somewhere on super short notice) Camping suggestions would be great! Where do you go? I have taken her to tooronga falls (not much walking available there anyways) and to lots of holiday houses and in general she is a very chill puppy, not really fussed by location changes (but I like to go away most weekends and she loves it too) She has slept on my bed twice at home and both times i woke up to her chewing my hair! > not impressed! this has for some reason never happened anywhere else The going away on weekends and getting to class are not getting along great though, we are planning to be there next weekend (25th) after a long absence She has doubled since i got her and is now 5.5kg!
  10. where did you get your tie out from? :) I have been looking for a long line as well but my local pet stores dont seem to stock them, so any recommendations for those too would be great! :) TSD I think we have the opposite personality pups! She sleeps snuggled next to me in the tent in my sleeping bag (and tries to sleep in a lot more camping because at home she sleeps in a crate next to my bed) and is more of a lazing around next to people dog, so far the longest walk she's had has been about 20 minutes and she was ready to snooze for a few hours after that So my hikes are thoroughly limited for a while at least until shes a bit older...last one I carried her half way, but shes only 4 months and i was told to only do 5 minutes walking per month of age, not sure if thats a good rule to go by? but seems to tire her out enough!
  11. And after all my planning... the campsite is flooded/closed! next time it is!
  12. Think i have one of those sitting around somewhere, will sneak it along also :)
  13. Thanks for all the tips - I've added vet numbers/address to my phone :) I'll be taking her play pen, so hopefully no esky escapades... it was very handy as the last time i had her on leash while eating and she got into a loaf of bread while i wasnt looking hadnt heard of a tie out stake but looking into it now :) Looks like its going to be such a muddy trip already! Got my bag full of towels at the ready O.o
  14. That is quite the set up TSD - they must love it! she is travelling in her crate at the moment, will look into something like that once she has grown a bit more :)
  15. Yep i also take lots of towels/blankets going anywhere - was 100% necessary last time as the ground was all muddy! What is "their stuff" for the first aid box though? Is there specific medications/bandages I should have?
  16. Does anyone here take their dogs on camping trips and have something like a checklist of things to bring? Or first aid knowledge/items to know/bring? Last time we were only 1.5 hours away from home so i felt we could come back if anything went wrong but this time we are going three hours away - any tips would be greatly appreciated! :) She is now almost 4 months old and I've taken her camping once before (and on lots of general weekend getaways), she is wonderfully behaved but I took a playpen which was handy when setting up the tent/cooking, picnic rug, usual food/water/bowls/toys/chews/treats etc., she sleeps in the tent and is overall very happy and relaxed in new settings. She is on sentinel and nexguard, I'll get a tick twister before we go just in case though
  17. I am so sorry we couldnt come to class this morning, i was so looking forward to saying hi too! but the pup decided that 4:30am this morning was a great time to get diarrhoea and then vomittng at 7:30 am (and then 10am) she is otherwise still in great spirits but i dont think i should bring a sick puppy to class just in case its contagious or something shes on chicken and rice for now and i have spoken to the vet, so hopefully its just a day thing and we can come to the next weeks class! Sorry again
  18. I'll try the busy road tomorrow but that makes a lot more sense than my quiet street in hindsight! That is true, I think i was a bit naive when it happened and thought surely no one would NOT call their dog away when asked! I will definitely step between them next time I was so shocked at the "friendly dog" = let it do whatever mindset of these people, these dogs werent even on effective voice control, I can imagine it would be harder with a reactive dog
  19. I'll see if i can find you! :) I am also generally frazzled when i am there too because its too early, and im trying to get the puppy to walk nicely which isnt easy with so many distractions... We are in the 9am class so I think the regulars are just coming in when we are leaving, my puppy is only 14 weeks so she generally gets soo tired by the end of class, so dont think she could hang around until the end off the adult classes at this stage, but i think i saw Starkhere last time as we were leaving :)
  20. I don’t think she is reactive at this stage, but I don’t want her to continue to have more dodgy experiences like the first one :/ In general, she has had more positive experiences than negative (few pups at puppy school and a few more adult dogs while at cafes/walks who have greeted her nicely and happily). I don’t want to avoid seeing dogs altogether just not have them be soo “intrusive” and run at us which I think is a bit rude and unfair for a little puppy! Thanks for all the tips – I’ll try the city parks and calling up pet stores and shops before and befriending them. She has done one puppy school at the vet (which wasn’t a free for all one) and now she is at puppy school/training at positive k9 in kew (well she has only had one class) which was great and they don’t let dogs socialise before class, I will see how she goes this sunday, she was very social last week, so hopefully that hasnt changed too much? I think I’ve seen your posts in the positive k9 facebook social group with thistle? She is such a cutie :)
  21. I feel absolutely terrible but ive let my puppy had 1.5 bad experiences with other dogs approaching her. She was at the vet a couple of days ago, all dogs have to be on lead at the vet, and a husky came in on a retractable lead, she didn’t like the way it approached so she moved back into a corner and I asked the owner to call his dog back, to which he said “he’s friendly just saying hi”, and continued to let the dog approach, she was backed into a corner even though it was just sniffing and she did a howly bark before the owner called his dog back. I feel so disappointed in myself that she had to protect herself from this dog and I didn’t do it for her, but we were in a waiting room and there was only one way out. Ive been trying to find places to take her where she can see other dogs, but they don’t come into her personal space/charging at her as I don’t want her to become dog reactive. From my research dogs have to be on lead on the streets, the vet, in pet stores and in the on lead section of parks. But last time I went to the local pet shop (without her), one of the workers there had her dog off lead in the store, and all the parks in my area have both an onlead and offlead section and but most owners are just letting their dog off lead at their car or anywhere (ive driven to a few without her to scope them out). So I tried walking her in my very quiet street and then another dog came running off lead straight at us, as soon as I saw this, I moved us in the opposite direction with a cheery “lets go”. But it was still running (away from its owners towards us) so I picked her up and asked the owners to call their dog back, to which I got another “oh hes just friendly!” and I said she doesn’t like dogs charging at her, she didn’t see much of this dog so I cant say she had a negative experience with it. Other than training is there any areas where dogs actually are always kept on lead and not allowed to approach others? I am in the Glen Eira/Bentleigh area but willing to travel and want to prevent dog reactivity in my puppy!
  22. Thanks huski that does clear it up :) I haven't been letting her pull on the leash at all or choose directions but I have been letting her stop and sniff things as I am walking (and stopping or slowing down for her). If she hits the end of the lead (rarely) I will either call her back to my side and then continue walking or call her back and then release her to go sniff it again. I haven't had any issues with getting her attention back to me with sniffing things or watching garbage trucks go past etc But i have had difficulty getting her attention after i've let her "say hello" to 3 other dogs (after they were done greeting each other) while they were walking away, otherwise she has passed other dogs while still being able to focus on me? Does this mean I shouldn't let her greet other dogs for now?
  23. That sounds good- we have been keeping actual walks really short, just up and down the short street but am going to try and get her to walk by my side for one house then release her to go sniff for a bit and follow her around, then call her back to my side...cause at the moment im just following her around while she tries to sniff every plant, bin, patch of grass, calling her away from some things (going into peoples driveways) and thats not how i intend to walk in the future! She does heel very well at home, in the backyard and I am keeping sessions short and fun :) But naturally our outings are longer than a few minutes so dont want to push her to stay in position for that long at this baby age, i'll get her to walk nicely for a little bit then gradually increase the time of walking nicely by my side vs sniffing as she gets older
  24. She is typically not over excited by the environment and im able to get her back to my side most of the time...and is very good with most situations (yesterday she just lay down at a busy cafe with 70ish people and watched kids run, scream and play but was happy to get pats from them when they asked) I agree that I'd rather she likes things like people, vacuum cleaners and bin trucks than be scared of them She is a bit strange with dogs though: If they try to say hello to her - she will at first run behind me (tail down, ears back), then in a matter of 2 seconds) she'll come back to the same spot where she was (tail neutral) and approach to sniff them cautiously, then within another few seconds she'll want to play and be very pouncy in a puppy way, then when they leave - its hard to get her back to my side again until they are a 5-10metres away. She was super confident in puppy school and plays with the other dog at home. Is the initially fearful reaction normal? And will meeting a few more nice dogs get rid of that?
  25. Oops should probably clarify that she has been more places than just cafes: Other socialisation outings include going to friends houses and in their backyards, a couple of friends holiday houses for overnight stays, a warehouse, pet shops, an overnight camping trip, a train station, construction site, outside a shopping mall, the beach, we have had people over, she has loved being patted by at least 100 people and seen a lot more, lots of car rides of various lengths (she does occasionally whinge in these - for some reason the shorter ones), the vet for puppy school and vaccination. She has been comfortable, curious and happy in all of these situations. In the overnight trips to new places she likes to explore the new environment, meet people, play with her toys and settle for a nap or a play in her play pen so we are even able to go and get some groceries/dinner - she is good at figuring out the door/tent opening and will wait there to be let out to go to the toilet. We have used the ‘sound proof puppy training’ app to get her used to weird noises but she was never really fussed by them. She was taken out and about in a stroller by the breeder and socialised to a variety of textures, surfaces, noises and general life things so luckily for me she has been a very easy going puppy. :)
