  3. Hi All A friend has recently purchased a show Cocker Spaniel (although she has owned Cocker Spaniels for some time and also has a pet). She requires the following equipement and I was hoping that we could find out the best, cheapest supplier as I am sure you will all have someone you use and trust. She needs the following 1) Stainless Steel comb 2) Slicker med curved 3) Mars Coat 20 blade 4) Thinning Scissors We have been searching online and have found a number of places but they are either O/S or vary in price and quality. As she only has one show dog, she does not need top of the range but knows that good equip lasts longer and costs a bit more. Looking for a list of suppliers others use Many thanks Lynda
  4. Chirpie? Do you mean Steve Palmer? I think it is like any organisation - no one is an instant expert and we all have to start somewhere. Its certainly not easy to get into the dog squad - and you wouldnt stay long if you were not 100% a doggy person through and through. Its a hard job as you are usually 1st on scene and as a result would have to have a huge amount of faith in your K9 But if you want to talk about Dog Handlers - what about ex RAFF dog handlers - they are like ARS*HOLES - they are everywhere!! Have you noticed? So many Ex RAFF dog hanlders now set up as dog trainers. When you ask around - it is usually that they 'passed by' the dog section once - or one day a fellow officer asked them to hold his dog - suddenly he is an EX RAFF dog handler! ROFLMAO Shame for those RAFF handlers (and EX handlers) who really are trained and experienced! Also with the seige situation - I think they may have been more worried about your dogs response to the Police K9 rather than the other way round - if your dog took offence to the other dog being on his turf, a high drive dog focused on a badie is not going to take being charged by another dog very well. These situations can go bad in a heartbeat - all those involved need to be able to focus fully on what is happening at the incident site - not be distracted by what is going on in the perimeter. Working in Comms when we send the dog unit to an incident - I often wonder at the situations they must encounter jumping unannounced into back yards chasing badies!! Having Malinois myself - I know they wouldnt take too kindly to it - could get ugly. A friend had her dogs (Belgians) capsicum sprayed one day by two officers looking for someone. She was very offended but I explained better that than a bullet!
  5. To those interested, Cameo female malinois is max height and 11mths of age. Sire is Bryan (working Malinois) dam is show line Malinois. She has good drives, likes to play rough and is very smart. Would suit tracking, obedience, herding and possibly even Schutzhund with an experienced trainer. She could easily be shown to a Show Champion and has been graded excellent under international breed specialist. This is a nice package. Very smart in looks and in ability. Available only on breeders terms as I definately want to breed on with this female. I would rather keep her but will be too iscolated to do anything with her myself. Others mentioned earlier still available. Photo available at http://www.ozbsd.com/our-dogs/MalinoisCameo.htm
  6. I am posting in this section as I believe some of these dogs would suit dog sports such as Agility/Obedience etc A couple could even do well in Schutzhund with the right trainer. It is highly possible that my husband will be posted to a remote community in the Gulf for 2 years and I feel it is in the best interest of the dogs to find them responsible and caring homes. These dogs will be placed on very strict breeders terms and only to people with previous dog experience. If you have an interest in getting into another breed and want to start with the best then this may be just the right opportunity. There has been many $$$$$ spent on importing and or breeding these quality lines. Imported Laekenois male 2yo Imported Laekenois female 2 yo Imported Laekenois female 8yo Laekenois female 3mths Malinois female 3 mths Malinois female 3yo For further information please email me (Lynda) with your details at: [email protected]
  7. Further to a previous post .... I recently imported 3 dogs. A male Malinois, a male Laekenois and a female Laekenois. Male Laek is son of Malinois. Malinois male is very high drive dog. Staff at the Quarantine centre could not and would not go into their pens (this is not in my opinion a reflection on the dogs as I had no such trouble when I got them home although the first couple of days was not for the feint of heart!) When I had my first litter from the Mal assessed by Craig and Tracy - I also took the Sire with me. Craig had this dog eating out of the palm of his hand in a couple of minutes. This dog would be too much for most owner/handlers as his drive has not been centred for some time - but I was certainly impressed to see the possibilities after only a couple of minutes. I think it is the results that prove or disprove a trainers ability. And quick results like this I believe can only come from the trainer/handlers ability to read the dog and visa versa. So in my mind, so long as the training is not excessive in regard to negative reinforcement and is balanced according to each dog, then you cannot make your mind up just by watching someones methods - you need to see what they start with and how that dog ends up at the end of the training. JMHO
  8. I first met Craig Murray about 10 years ago - I attended a couple of his seminars and I found him to be very informative and knowledgeable. He certainly was able to give me insight and assistance into the trouble I was having with my Tervueren at the time. I had been to other so called trainers claiming years of Aust and O/S RAFF experience but at the end of the day they were scared of my dog and did nothing to help me except take my money. No-one ever agrees 100% with any trainers methods - and we know that no 2 dogs are the same to train but I certainly found Craig pretty knowledgeable AND flexible when it came to the dogs he assessed and trained. After a period of time where I have not had contact with Craig or Tracy - I recently attended one of their seminars and then had them assess one of my Malinois and Groenendael litters. These people have never stated that they know all of the answers. We even had a discussion regarding socialisation and they agreed that they had changed their mind on how much is required up to 16 weeks and it seems my thoughts from the last 2 litters supported their already changing views. BUT, don't listen to me - give them a try yourself. If you listen to the bashers you may just miss out on what I am sure would result in a huge gain in knowledge and understanding of you dog. And I am also sure that there are a number of disabled kids and adults MORE than willing to sing the praises of Craig Murray and Tracy and their ability to get the most out of a dog.
