West Puppy - Eye Discharge, Suspected Dry Eye?
Bowzer replied to idealgrind's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have just been through this with my 11 month old Kelpie X Lab. Same aymptoms exactly although he is redish in colour so red stain would not be visable. He had weeping in his right eye one day then weeping in both. Some greenish gunk developed after a couple of days(not too much) so I gave it a couple of days with saline baths. This prevented it getting worse but didnt get better so off to the vet. Procedure there was as follows - Litmus paper test for dry eye.....all good. Little bit of green dye put in each eye then special light used to check for scratches and foreign bodies - all good there. Given a dose of topical antibiotic/antinflamitary cream to each eye which I took home and administered twice a day for 6 days. There was improvement after one day!!! I was told that it was probably started due to alergic reaction to summer dry grasses etc and maybe he scratched his itchy eye a little and caused infection and if it starts again might have to give him antihitamene (spelling) to relieve itchy before he scratches it again. -
Thankyou MRB It seems you and I do things alike I am bad for repeating a cue (I get told off at training class weekly) Thank you very much for the great advice. :)

Ok so LAT training will work Ok with "yes" as opposed to click then cool. He is quite distracted by other going ons at school so wanted to try this method (LAT) :)
-
Cool thanks S & T, So combining the two will then be ok for occasions when I am not using clicker?
-
Ok thanks MRB, so I will continue to use voice at obedience and I can use clicker for LAT game as per instructions then? :)

Hi There, I have used a clicker to train my 11 month old Kelpie X Lab in the past with good results. Now we are doing obedience class together and no-one uses a clicker there and I dont want to rock the boat using one so have gone away from it for a while. I have just read up on LAT training and it has refreshed my interest in the use of the clicker again. I know consistency is the key so does that mean I should stop using the clicker away from dog school all together? Thanks in advance Bowzer

hmmmm how attached are you to the cat? hehe joking I think small steps are the go. Its all about making the situation relate to good things - vaccuum = treats. Get the pooch to come closer to the cleaner progressivly for reward (switched off at first) then repeat with it turned on once she is comfortable taking a treat off of it. I think a little bit closer each day would be best, slowly but surely. Maybe someone here has been through the exact same thing and has another way to help?

HAHA thanks persephone How funny is it when there is evidence left behind??!!!

hm,...so you teach him stealing?...he will learn pretty fast that all he has to do is to steal something if he wants a treat or reward... :D Thats what i thought but it doesnt work that way, he gets the reward upon return not the theft. He actualy gets things and brings them to me now for a pat.....no harm done.

oooooh this sounds familiar I am teaching my boy to give and exchange the stolen property for a treat in my open hand. Seems to be working. We are now working towards the empty open hand as being the signal and a ear rub as reward. The important thing to remember is to not chase as it becomes the worlds best game :)

More mate than any bloke could ever ask for. He was always by my side Always there to protect me He was the first thing I got when I moved out of home, Dad said I should have called him fridge. Then when I got married and our first daughter came along he was always by her side watching over her. He gave all he could give and was always happy right to the end. He was and always will be my best mate.
