Sending Bloods To Jean Dodds
Castal dreaming replied to sas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Deltacharlie, I'm also looking at sending bloods to Jean Dodds from Canberra-my vet quoted $500 which is why I haven't rushed to get it done. Can you possibly tell me who your vet is or their contact details? -
Stubbornly Dry, Coarse Coats

She's just started to properly blow her coat for the first time-hopefully we will get some nice coat in after that. I'm crossing my fingers because it's been a long wait! -

Yes I did wonder if the ivermectin did the damage. The mange itself was highly localised-no more than 5 x 1cm wide spots -

No-i don't use a preventative and *touch wood* she has never had fleas. We use milbemycin monthly for a heartworm preventer. This was my last ditch try as multiple ASD breeders and I have not been able to improve her coat. Maybe cross fingers and hope that the dietary change will do the trick! -

She had a touch of demodex at 8 months (she is now nearly 16 months) which cleared up very quickly on invermectin with no recurrence. She has never had any other problems-she is pretty bomb proof tbh-just scruffy. I've probably used a furminator on her two or three times in her life and not in the last 5ish months. And we have dropped any after wash treatments and sprays for the last 3 weeks, they haven't made a difference so I don't see any point continuing them. -

She has a funny kink to her coat in that spot you mentioned blinkblink. It has been like that for ages (6+ months). I dont know that it's particularly damaged as it feels ok. Where that funny kink is the wave in the top coat shows the undercoat which is much darker. Could that be what you are seeing? -

Thanks for that blinkblink! I'm new to posting on the forums so haven't been able to figure out how to post photos yet ???? -

We've tried the Chris Christensen coat link spray, topical alpha kerri oil diluted in 500 mls and sprayed on daily for a month (I think it's lanolin based) and her current shampoo contains coconut oil. Is there a particular product you recommend or have had success with Jules? This girl is quite a quandry! ???? -

Hi Jules, I've had four myself and literally met dozens of them. This is the roughest, coarsest coat I've ever come across-even compared to full time working dogs ???? -

Thanks Scootaloo-im wondering if that's just the way her coat is too but i hope it's not. Her uncoat never really came in well either and to add to that it's a much darker colour than her guard hairs so it really does look pretty bad compared to others of her breed. If she wasn't for showing I guess I'd just leave it alone. I gave myself another 3-6 months before i admited defeat -

Hi trifecta-we will be doing a thyroid test possibly through Jean Dodds however the vet doesn't feel it's to thyroid due to her excellent general health, healthy weight and the absence of other symptoms -

Yes the puppy coat is well out and she went through her first moult last September (it wasn't a full coat change unfortunately) though the dry coarseness has persisted since August if not before. She doesn't swim willingly so water damage can't be it. I have just started blowing out her coat using a high velocity dryer and i doubt excess grooming could be the cause -

It isn't correct for her breed unfortunately. I've never had another with such a coarse dry coat either
