  1. G'Day Guys, Hope everyone had a great AUS Day yesterday. Thanks for the all advice and viewpoints gives me a lot to draw from, I am very appreciative! We are now on the second week and he has seemed to adjusted to the routine but only time will tell. Wish me luck!
  2. I agree with you 100% in the case of your breed, and many other breeds. However, I would like to hear input from breeders of this breed or similar livestock guardian breeds, before agreeing that his breed is too young for this. There are developmental differences and I suspect that this would not be a problem for a correctly reared livestock guardian breed in a safe environment. Hi, Thanks for the input :) He's a rather independent puppy as typical of his breed, he is already trying to herd us as if we're sheep haha he's in a safe environment. We still shower him with affection but most of the time he'll just do his own thing, when he wants to play he lets us know and then I play with him until he runs out of steam. He's a good puppy & very smart. There has been a forecast for thunderstorms in our area tomorrow and my partner has the day off so she is going to stay home and see how he goes through that.
  3. Haha thanks! Yeah and he knows it. Lets him get away with a little to much at the moment haha
  4. Thank you! Yeah, we are going to get him a little dog pool this weekend for when we are home and he can cool off. Once he has all of his shots we'll start taking him to the beach.
  5. Thank you! he's very cute. He is a cheeky one to! haha
  6. Hi, Thanks! No We only put it on him when we are home for leash training. That one I thought of immediately as the collar is just a bit to big at the moment.
  7. image upload Hopefully it worked, This is a picture of the day we brought him home.
  8. Yeah, we have made sure that the door doesn't close. Thanks, was a bit worried but he now seems ok with being outside there. When we are home he spends all of his time with us. This morning was much easier.
  9. Hi, Thanks for your input, It is much appreciated and I can understand your view point. Thanks for replying :)
  10. Hi, Thanks for all that information! He is a very calm puppy (for the most part) It is very hard not to play with him all the time! I mean, I had a Border Collie from the age of 7 till 19 until he passed away from natural causes. He was akin to the same breed that our little guy is now. He lived his entire life outside from 8 weeks when we brought him home and he was the best most well behaved, adjusted dog. We leave the back door open for him when we are home so he can go outside to do his business and he seems to be relatively happy when he's outside - its more so when hes in the bedroom with us for 8 hours that he gets restless.
  11. Hi, Thanks for that. Yeah we are going to get him a little paddle pool for the days it gets out of control with the heat. When I continued to leave him outside when i got home he just slept. He has a massive 2 Car Garage for shade where we put his Bed, Food & Toys and a door opened so he can go out into the backyard, the yard is secured with High fences - his breed is also typically independent used working flocks of sheep alone without the supervision of it's human caregivers. He's also not a small dog - he is the same size as friends 8 month old husky.
  12. Hi Guys, Recently my partner and I got a 10 week old Sarplaninac Puppy. We brought him home on the weekend as to adjust him to his new surroundings but now that it is time to go back to work for 8 hours a day. (9 - 5) The first day we left him at home by himself in the backyard/garage (fully enclosed backyard with high fences and a 2 car garage that has a door that leads into the backyard) He has plenty of fresh water (2 buckets) some puppy biscuits & a bed & chew toys. I chose to come home half way through the day and continue to work from home, he seemed pretty chilled & I chose to leave him outside until 5:30 as this would be the time I would get home. Is 10 weeks old to young to be leaving him unattended for to long? Thanks
