I am expecting it is with a collar, although they have not replied to my query yet to confirm if it is, their methods or if i can attend the training i am thinking deeply and would not make any decisions lightly

There is snake avoidance training being held in Melbourne. I'd enquiring about it for Thistle being she is inclined to approach wildlife with murderous intent: December 10th and 17th. Facebook link The trainers are approved and licensed by the by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning for anyone concerned about legalities. Live snakes are used.

I can't recall but I think I did a statutory declaration due to some communication challenges with the rescue. Could see if CAR accepts those? the rest were directly done by vet and just needed to be merged into one account. -

All my pets are on Central Animal Records. They send reminders every now and then to update your details, and make it super easy. I think it was a one time fee of $10 or $15. -

Today! We visited Kepala (good for reactive dogs since you rent out an activity area and nobody else bothers you and there's a pool!) and then we visited K9 Elementary Indoor Dog Park (also can rent out so nobody bothers you!) The former has more variety but the latter was a blessing because it's so f***ing hot, there's like no shade at kepala so indoors was good! We also tried out the day care area while I ducked across the road to do some work. Thistle let them put a lead on her, walk her, potty her and water her She even hung around on lead in the kitchen while some drinks were made for my return! Very brave girl. After this test run, @dididog , I'm gonna agree - I'm thinking would be fun to intro george to thistle and thyme here, lots of stuff for someone to go in if feeling overwhelmed. I asked about using the runs if we need to rotate anyone out, we'd have to contact in advance and possibly book one. They're interested to see how we go about introducing Thistle to strange dogs because they're considering hiring trainers to do reactive dog socialising courses. I might offer Thyme as a socialising dog when he's more mature. He's pretty laidback with other dogs and doesn't react back or freak out if they have a go at him. All puppied out: -

You will end up having the chip on two registries. The NSW one and then the Australia wide one you decide on. Personally...I will avoid buying nsw dogs from now on. Such a bother getting anything sorted if your address isn't nsw anymore -

Point cook is surrounded by gorgeous walking areas and not too populated. I love taking my dogs to visit friends down that way! there are festivals every few months or so. There was a small dog carnival last week, a pets market a month or so ago. In the next week or so there's a Halloween pet parade. I find out most from Facebook and instagram. Find day cares etc near you and they'll share local events. Update your nsw chip to new address as you leave and have a note added that you're in Victoria now. Then register dogs chip on nationwide database and with your new council. <- Melbourne with a nsw dog... -
Looks like they'll be down late November so going to try and book a double consult then. Nothing too urgent, mostly after preventive knowledge. @Papillon Kisses can you tell me more about your experience and why you liked them? I'm a little hesitant booking with an interstate traveler person and need the reassurance lol

Awesome thank you I will inspect when I get home and perhaps contacting for a consult. wont get good consult if thistle is shut down so very important. Thyme is thyme. He doesn't care lol edit. They are only taking bookings for Friday :'( I can not get that day off such short notice (as we have this Friday off for some errands) i will will contact the person email but does anyone know a local Melbourne contact? I'd feel much better with hands on person over Skype contact.

I'm not sure the position title to look for Thistle has stiffness in her front left leg. Its barely noticeable I had to get my trainers confirm not imagining it. Thyme some stiffness in his rear. As he grew we had concern maybe luxating patella so would like an opinion on that. He sits like a frog sometimes. Any recommendations ons on someone around Melb to take them two? Preferably both at same time as Thyme soothes Thistle around strangers and being handled. Someone understanding about scared dogs and good at layman communication? i an in northern suburbs

I was willing to wait 9 months for a Welshie because it lined up with when I could get free to work on the intro and puppy. Declined a few while waiting for not meeting personality or age or time line criteria. When that that didn't work out (and a couple of other welsh springers pups, still borns, failed breedings etc) the Welshie ppl helped me find thyme - who is pretty much the exact personality I was looking for in a different shape. Timing was exact. I still want that Welshie so I'm now 7 months into a two year wait for the next (hopeful) breeding from one of three breeders (ideally my preferred and fave). I'm okay with this, because again will line up with my timelines. If all 3 fail or wrong personalities , i don't know if I'd be willing to wait years again or might just go with a pound pup that has the personality I want. Will have to see closer to the timeline. My thinking is much easier to find a dog that will suit us than it is to get time off to help guide pup into fitting into our life. Would really like her to be a Welshie though! This time at least, won't be bottom of the lists ;) I am crossing fingers hard.

The new adoption policy ratings system.
Two Best Dogs! replied to _PL_'s topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think I would have liked such indicators when I was dog hunting back when I got thistle. I applied to so many dogs and kept getting rejected. One of them I'm still very sad about. A foster 5 month old staghound x. I worked too much so wouldn't be able to settle her in? Even though I had outlined my plans to take 3 weeks off and slowly introduce to alone time. They made no mention if she had separation anxiety or not. The real kicker was 1 year after adopting thistle she was still in that rescue in foster. The place I got thistle from were a little unsure of my working hours but didn't mind once I explained my 3 weeks off plan. And she was clearly identified as special needs... so I think a flexible rating is a good idea so don't go pinning my hearts on dogs I'll be rejected for. Saves time on everyone's side... (although pretty sure I've already picked my next rescue dog source lol) -
I have taken sick days off for the dogs. Two days after she was attacked by Scarlet (both of us needed that) A half sick day when she ate a bee and needed monitoring (swelling on face and throat) and also took a day off when she cut her happy tail open to the bone in the morning to rush her to the vet, but i took that one using some overtime I already had on hand. My managers are supportive and tbh, if I thought I had the kind of manager who'd say no on account of just being an animal...I'd take it as a sick/personal day for me because there is no way I'd be able to concentrate at work if the dogs are bad enough I think I need to stay home. I'd cry on my doctor to get a med cert if I had to, or do a stautory dec saying I couldn't go to work that day for personal health reasons. My old job at Telstra they let me switch shifts around to look after a very sick rabbit, and even brought her into a night shift with me at one point. But that place, getting sick leave was a huge bother for myself that I'd do everything to avoid it.

I'm avoiding areas where snakes might congregate eg on bike paths, around watering holes where the birds nest. But it will be impossible to avoid all together. Our local snake catcher recently went viral with his "weekly spot the snake" picture which highlights how hard they can be to spot. Some of his cases are in areas I live - suburban houses not too far from a reserve. I keep my lawn mowed short to hopefully discourage them and thistle I think I am going to purchase the snake deterrent training. But all that just minimises our chances, it doesn't guarantee I should check the vets near my hiking areas to see if they keep antivenin stock.
