Our slack photographer still hasn't taken this years Xmas pics of the fur fiends to update my sig...so have just rehashed some old ones.

When our boy had parvo I was advised to also try Farex Baby Food (sp?) & Nutrigel. It was just small meals, often (it would sometimes just be a small morsel or two - hand fed). Royal Cannin has a tinned version of the chicken & rice which I got from my vet. Hope your pup picks up soon...

Our Mutant, the cresty, will jump backwards, spin around, play bow & stop every so often to see what we think.....I just put it down to his mutant genes...

Ok, so not quite the same but a few years back my son fell & split his head which they glued back together. The glue was blue (stylish) and we weren't allowed to wash his hair until the glue fell out (took a couple of weeks). Maybe give the vets a call and ask them...
-
I will never own a Cresty again due to the constant whining ours does. Not sure if it's endemic to the breed or if we just got a lemon...but I swear it's a form of torture.

Bee stings can be hard to find - especially if your dog is the brave type...unlike ours Dante, our Iggy will contend your Grey for the drama queen title We were out walking when Dante stepped on a bee - due to the screaming we knew something was amiss and guessed that as we we're walking across a park with clover a bee may somehow be involved. Took out the sting and kept walking only to have him start vomiting in approx 100m down the road. Luckily we'd just walked past the vets, so scooped him up & raced back to the vets thinking he was having a severe reaction to the venom only to be told he's was in shock - they gave him something to help but can't remember what it was. The vet said he's never seen anything like it

What terrible news My condolences on the fur kids you've lost Jed Wishing you a speedy recovery....and pretty much what everyone else has already said. -
R.I.P Ellie Horus - sorry to hear you're beautiful girl has gone to the bridge. There never is any good way to prepare for them going - though I believe that it only hurts so much because the depth of love equals the depth of pain after they're gone - which in itself is a wonderful thing to love & be loved that much (I hope that makes sense ) Natures first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Any Advice Re A Whippet With A Sprained Hip?
Stormy replied to Stormy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Kirislin - Yep Vic is a bit out of my range (I struggle with the greater part of Sydney as it is...). Apparently the vet I was going to see is also a qualified doggy Chiro so all is good (had a recommedation for the same fellow from a greyhound trainer this morning) :D Polomum - Let me know how you go ;) -

Stormy, I dont mean a vet, I mean a "muscle man" more like a chiropractor, but find one who specialises in greyhounds, that part is important. The best way is to ask greyhound trainers who they use. D'Oh! And I thought I was doing so well to have tracked down a "greyhound" vet at Quakers Hill Kirislin thanks again for the heads up..... dogmad - Do you know if the place at Leichhardt specialise in Grey's? Rommi n Lewis - I'll also look into Bowen (I have a friend who does it on people so she may know someone who does it on dogs - I have never heard her mention that she does) SBT123 - Will have a read about the Ester C too. Thanks again for the advice -

Kirislin - Thanks, I would never have thought of a Greyhound vet... I will ring around and see where I can find. Polomum - The skinny dogs are otherwise all well. Dante, the little feral, will be three in May...can't believe it's gone that fast. I'll have a look at the Nutra Life - MSM Glucosamine Chondroitin Joint Food, plus Joint Guard & Sasha's Blend was also recommended to me (another DOLer - gotta love DOL) We used to feed Barf Patties but became a bit too cost prohibitive for 4 dogs so now use Eagle Pack - though I can put just Pen on it if it helps. Will look at the websites you've mentioned too. oakway - do you know if vegetable juice from the supermarket (Like V8) would work? - as I don't have a juicer. SoL - I haven't heard of poulticing (so am off to Google...). Swimming would be great though not sure where I could take her where she can do it (she's afraid of the water / waves at the beach and has never ventured into the creek for a swim). Mmmm I wonder if there's such a thing as a dog physio that has a heated pool... Pen hasn't really moved off her bed today, though she did eat her dinner - she just seems "flat" :D all for your advice - it's greatly appreciated -
Our 8 year old whippet was diagnosed this morning with a sprained hip. The vet gave her Carprofen (plus daily tablets until our next appointment next Friday) and a shot of Zydax (which needs to be given weekly for one month). We've separated her from the boys for now (as none of them has any sense of personal space and tend to use Pen as a pillow) and will be giving her Fish oil now in her dinner as well as sardines / pilchards (probably overkill ) to try and help her joints. Penny weighs 13 kgs, so is not overweight, but has previously strained her shoulder, so I'm now a bit concerned her joints are aging faster than the rest of her. Is there anything else I could be doing to help her get back on her feet?

Serena what a wonderful & very touching tribute for such an amazing boy. Thank you for sharing Rocco (and Ralph) with us - I know my life is the richer for it. Vale Rocco.

R.I.P Jed - Run free you gorgeous Goofball. Hugs to you Juice, you made an incredibly tough decision.

Huge Lump On Side Of Neck On Whippet
Stormy replied to Crits'N'Bits's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Goodluck to any mouse that tried to get within spitting distance of a whippet :D Could it be a grass seed (or something like it) caught under his collar that has caused an irritation? Is he acting normally? Sorry, just throwing out ideas....... -

I don't use skin based products on our dogs as I was told that the Cresty and Iggy could have a bad reaction. Storm (whippet) had this type of reaction to his last vaccination (C5) and I'm not sure if I'll get him done again next year. Could he have been bitten by something? (sorry, a bit paranoid today :D) -
Starting A New Lure Coursing Club

Very interested but we won't be in the area until later in the year -
Oh no paula, what a horrible thing to happen..... Poor Harvey obviously wish he wasn't hit at all, but glad death was instant and he didn't suffer. The poor carer - I can only imagine that it would have been very traumatic and unexpected. RIP Harvey

Do you have a safe, tiled (easier to clean) part of the house you could contain her in (ie a laundry or large bathroom) when you're out? If all objects / items are removed that could cause her harm, it would probably be safer than a crate. (I have the remains of a steel crate here that a friends whippet destroyed). Would she benefit from a companion? Is doggy daycare an option (thought there may be some your way)? I got a second whippet (an older girl, 3 1/2 - now 6) for my young whippet male several of years ago, though I realise that a second dog is not always an option. Generally I do find though that whippets love to have another dog to snuggle up to and do like company in any shape, form or size. There are medications to sedate or reduce anxiety, but you'd need to try them to see if they'd be effective on her (they don't work in all cases). By memory too there's a plug in adaptor that releases a hormone (sort of like a mozzie deterent) that gives them the feel good vibes, but would think it was best used in an enclosed area for maximum benefit.

Paula, sorry to hear that Angus has crossed the bridge ;) RIP Angus

Damn. What a shame something like this happened horus, but as you said you were left with no choice. Rip Cleo and sending healing vibes to Ellie

He's through the worst of it Still has diarrhea, no vomiting though since yesterday lunchtime. Protein up to 10%. He's been walking around and has even eaten some chicken, so all is looking good. I wanted to bring him home tomorrow but was told Saturday morning would be the earliest that they'd recommend him leave. Can't wait to get my gorgeous little man home......mind you first stop will be the bath, he stinks

Thanks kamuzz, NalaCleo, daccies & peibe My little man is 17 weeks old, and as it turns out he's only had one vaccination He started showing symptoms three hours after we brought him home. He's been on a drip now for 7 days (and I've only owned him for 8), and we're hoping that he has started to turn the corner - Vet has said the next 24 / 48 hours will tell us if he's actually on the mend. I'm wanting to get really excited, but after doing that earlier this week then having him crash, don't want to get too far ahead of myself again His protein levels have climbed back to 8%, the meds from oncology are working, hasn't vomited for 17 hours, still has diarrhea. I couldn't imagine bringing any pup / unvaccinated dog into my house / car for years lest it face what my little man has. After having read about parvo, and others experiences with it here on DOL still didn't prepare me for the reality. It's bloody awful (no pun intended). I take my hat off to those that have dealt with it on multiple occasions. I really don't ever wish to be that close to it again. BLOWWY - Sorry to hear you've lost your pup to this awful disease. Though I personally wouldn't be bringing a young pup into your home for a few years at the very least. Maybe an older pup (6 months +) which has been fully vaccinated would be an option.
