  1. I have recently begun a gluten free diet and i had one beautiful jam filled special treat type glyten free biscuit left.. Unfortunately it was left on the coffee table when we went out and Cosmo ate it.. I want it back!!
  2. If i had a dog approaching my small dog in what i perceived to be a dangerous or concerning manner- dam right i would pick them up. What people don't realise is that with small dogs being attacked by something larger you have a very slight margin of error- it only takes one bite, one shake and that can be the death of them.
  3. We get comments ALL the time- multiple times within a walk. I much prefer comments like that than people crossing the road to avoid us or grabbing their children in fear!
  4. That is just around the corner from where i grew up Poor woman and dog
  5. Thanks Aphra- my cousin is considering applying for one of their dogs.
  6. Does anyone know this group? Any info good or bad welcome- pm's not working for some reason so can post here or email [email protected]
  7. While it's possible to have individuals within both breeds that are good at the dog park, it is NOT what would be recommended and not really typical though i think your chances are slightly better with a SBT than an am staff. If you want a dog social dog these aren't the breeds i'd start with. If not being around other dogs alot or not being off lead with other dogs, not being off lead with strange dogs are all things you're willing to live with, then these two breeds certainly suit the rest of your criteria.
  8. But people are proving that they can't be responsible dog owners. There is a need to address those that don't want to be educated willingly.
  9. Schnauzers can be VERY vocal. I have experience with both Schnauzers and Bichons and i'd say the schnauzers are just as bad if not slightly worse with their barking tendencies. I think you should seriously consider a Havanese from a breeder- wonderful, bright, friendly, affectionate and very under rated little dogs. Definite dog sports prospect too.
  10. It's not full but it doesn't work for some weird reason. Can you post the links?
  11. I would have absolutely no issue with owners who wish to own powerful or large breeds of dog having to meet certain criteria- fencing checks, mandatory training, reasonable behaviour assessment of the dogs and regulated breeding of such dogs. First time dog owners SHOULD start with 'easier' dogs. The reality is that most people just shouldn't have powerful dogs.
  12. There are 2 reasons why silence is important in this context- One is to surprise the offender, no point verbally correcting which the dog can then learn that you are coming and turn it into a game AND most importantly, a verbal correction will make the targeted dog more anxious/ worried/ increases negative association. I'd be likely to scruff the dog and/ or give them a time out in some way but if you're not sure how to deal with it- best to get a reputable trainer to come and assess the dog and determine what technique would be most effective.
  13. The predisposition for dog aggression needs to be addressed and carefully managed by responsible owners. Part of the problem is people (and by people i mean owners, breeders, the dog owning public) believing that dog to dog aggression is a minor issue.
  14. Slightly OT but not straying too far. I have a young Schnauzer staying with me at the moment. My OH is mowing the lawns outside, the dogs are all inside. I am working away on my computer with dogs (including the schnauzer) on the couch either side of me but not very close. I look over and notice the schnauzer shaking- the noise of the lawnmower is clearly worrying her. I brought her closer to me and wrapped an arm around her giving her a firm 'hug'. The shaking started to reduce. OH turned off the lawnmower, i stopped hugging. Now he has turned it back on twice and instead of shaking the schnauzer has just put her head on me- visibly more relaxed. Interesting stuff.
  15. I did see him but would really prefer something already in foster care. He'd be worth finding out more information on though, thanks.
  16. I liked him alot Aphra but didn't forward his details because it said not suitable for urban living. mixeduppup- they want to go through a reputable rescue, even more so if a dog was interstate.
  17. Victoria would be preferred as clients want us to look at potential candidates. Of course if the perfect dog is located interstate and they can't find any in VIC, they may consider it. Thanks KTB- 4 of the AWDRI dogs sounded suitable so i have forwarded them the links. Newfymum- which ones were you thinking of on the website?
  18. I am looking for dogs for an exceptional client of ours who already has 2 female Kelpie crosses. The requirements for the dog are as follows- Male (not negotiable) Prefer Kelpie x but other breeds considered Must be active enough to keep up with 2 moderately active dogs who get plenty of exercise BUT will be in an urban environment wth a small yard and house access during day NO Fence Jumpers or dogs with Separation Anxiety Prefer confident and outgoing in nature Training and socialisation will be provided by owners Low grooming requirements preferred Older dog would be fine- prefer 2+ but would go as old as an active 7-8 year old Dog to be located in VIC and available through a reputable rescue group Dogs in foster care OR with surrender history preferred I have searched petrescue and sent them a few but others welcome. This is a wonderful home. Please post if you know of anything that would suit.
  19. What HW said. You need to be quick and decisive- and preferably silent. Don't go in gentle gentle and build up- he needs to take you seriously.
  20. Sorry but i don't think they are just dogs being dogs. There are plenty of dogs that unrestrained and uncontrolled would not engage in this kind of behaviour. These two individuals went well beyond "dogs being dogs".
  21. Does anyone know All Paws Count Rescue in Victoria? Any info would be appreciated.
  22. I agree with HW here too. Predisposition for dog aggression is a problem. Gecko tree i'm not sure what your point is?
  23. That poor teenager. That is dreadful. I hope the dogs owner is charged and given a severe penalty. When will people learn to contain their dogs????
