  1. Agree with Poodlefan- great post! Erny- PETstock stores do vary, we run the puppy school at the Sth Melbourne store but most use Righteous Pups- some trainers are qualified, some are not. Second the rec for Four Paws if they are close by!
  2. Congratulations on the impending arrival of your new puppy! The first thing i would be doing is calling all the vet clinics in your area and asking how many cases of parvo they have seen in the last 12 months. This will give you an inidication of the risk level in your area. Remember that dobes, Rottweilers and black labs (to my knowledge, i'm sure someone will correct me if i am wrong) can be more susceptible to parvo virus. Consider ways to socialise your pup within your yard to surfaces, noises etc as well as taking advatage of the short time your pup will be small enough to sit on your lap in busy cafe strips etc. I took one of my pups to telstra dome before the start of the footy as i have never seen another dog around there and it was a great opportunity to socialise him with children, crowds, flags etc and no one stopped to pat him- all rushing to get to the footy which was great. Enrol in an organised puppy pre school class run by a qualified trainer that can help you to socialise your pup in a safe environment. And ask your vet about the new vaccine that has pups fully covered at 12 weeks of age.
  3. I would talk to the Glen Eira Vet where you are doing puppy school. They are excellent and although they may not 'specialise' in Pei's, myself and many clients use and love them!
  4. Agree with everything persephone said. The time is now to resolve such a problem if you ever want the dog to co exist peacefully with the cat.

    Rough Play

Have they done any training (either themselves or with a trainer) with the puppy? The time to resolve any issues is now- she will not 'grow out of' any of these behaviours and its difficult to advise without knowing what they have done with her already
  6. If the behaviour is fear based (and i have no idea if it is- but maybe ask your trainer) walking him away when he barks will actually serve to reinforce the barking rather than disuade him from doing it. What training equipment are you using if any?
  7. Difficult to say without seeing the dog but likely some kind of correction at the moment his postures suggest he is going to do so.
  8. An hour and a half is too long and your dogs concentration is likely to get worse over this period of time rather than better. A dog will also not stop doing something if he is either enjoying it, or feels he needs to do it to keep himself safe. Discuss this with your trainer and just ask how they will set up the situations necesary in your one on one work : )
  9. How did the trainers tell you to respond when you're dog urinates on someone? What techniques are they using to try to get him closer to the other dogs? It does sound like you would benefit from one on one- although it depends on how they are going to set up these situations that you are having problems in. Will the trainer be able to set up a controlled situation with other dogs?
  10. Great work Peibe- really well done!!
  11. Agree with wagalot- you can definitely teach boundaries. This is different to actual road sense though IMO
  12. Contact Kathy Koppellis Mcleod and ask about her reactive rover classes- they would probably be perfect Poor Chelsea
  13. Unbelievable prices! And there are Australian trainers that are just as good if not better running seminars, workshops and consults!
  14. We offer boarding and training as well But if you are west of the city- Four Paws is very good
  15. If you let us know whereabouts you are, someone may have a recommendation for you.
  16. Never heard of them but just looked at website and can't work out who they actually are? Doesn't look like the courses are recognised even in part either..
  17. I have had Karen Rowell work on my dogs and she was very good www.caninerehab.com.au
  18. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Me and OH are so happy for you and Georgie, Cosmo, Jessie and Dexter send Eddie big licks and play bows- especially Cosmo

  20. Is it possible that she has learnt that dropping means she will get to play with the dog?
  21. Thats terrible.. Its so much more than yank the dog around - and i do use corrections when appropriate.
