Singleton Pup - Foster Or Not?
lillypilly replied to jupiterlights's topic in General Dog Discussion
jupiterlights - please read what WreckitWhippet, persephone and Rebanne are saying. There is some good advice in these posts. I just cannot believe the breeder of your girl wants the pup removed from the mum after 24 hours. Just seems wrong to me. xx LP xx -

Singleton Pup - Foster Or Not?
lillypilly replied to jupiterlights's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would keep the pup and bitch together - singletons are a bit of extra work but can be reared successfully. If you need to adopt a neonate I have some lab cross newborns here. xx LP xx -

A very sad story. Little Mia's autopsy showed she died from internal injuries caused by dog bites. xx LP xx The following taken from My link Autopsy shows baby died from dog-bite wounds An autopsy yesterday confirmed that dog bites caused the death of a baby at her West Side home on Tuesday. Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak said that Mia Gibson, who would have been 3 months old today, died from internal injuries caused by dog bites. Mia’s mother, Sabrena L. Gibson, called 911 shortly before 7 a.m. after finding her daughter on the floor next to the living-room couch where the baby’s father was sleeping, Columbus police said. The family lives on Lake Shore Drive. “My husband fell asleep and my baby fell onto the ground, and she’s just a preemie,” she told the dispatcher, over what sounded like a baby’s cry. “Oh, sweetheart. Oh, my sweet baby.” Mia died about 7:45 a.m. at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Sgt. Steven Little of the first-shift homicide squad said the dogs, two Shiba Inus, didn’t seem to have attacked the baby but were playing roughly with her. The dogs were being held by Franklin County animal control at the request of police. Detectives spoke with Gibson and the infant’s father, Chris Kusumi. The case will be forwarded to the Franklin County prosecutor’s office to decide whether charges would be filed.

Anyone Boarded At Doggy Farm Stay Middle Dural?
lillypilly replied to JoAnnP's topic in General Dog Discussion
Firstly big hugs to Dingbat and what an awful thing to happen to you and poor Jack. The alarm bells are ringing in my ears after reading the doggy farm stay website. Does anyone else find it contradictory that this website states "Each night the dogs stay indoors, in the comfort & safety of Melody's house". Then one reads a bit further along "Precious Pups is a specialised service that will allow you to be sure that your dog is kept safe and sound indoors while you're travelling. The Precious Pups has very limited spaces, as the dog remains in the house with the Family so if you need this service please book well in advance" Ok I thought all the dogs were in the home - maybe I read it wrong. BYO bed is odd - as a "boarding facility" do they not have beds. Perhaps bring a blanket or similar would be better. Where do the dogs really sleep - all together dormitory style perhaps? Maybe a verandah? We will never really know. Throw a few raw bones around to unkennelled dogs and this scenerio is not a nice place for any dogs to be! As for their agreement where it states no responsibility for "escape or exercise or from grass allergies, burns, knotting, hot spots or grass seeds which might become embedded in paws" - do they not physically check their boarders as least daily? Individual checking of the dogs helps the boarding dog to bond with the kennel staff. Tick collars can not always be relied on. I run boarding kennels (as well as a rescue in a separate kennel block) and never are dogs allowed to play or run together - recipe for grief and a lack of duty of care. When a new boarder comes in it is not just a matter of just putting a boarding dog in a kennel - other considerations such as being next to a reactive dog etc and some 'kennel shuffling' may need to be done. I have taken the odd dog home with me as they will not settle in a kennel, are aged etc My own dogs are always crated at night and so is the visiting dog. Maybe I am too over the top in my belief I am being paid to care for someone else's precious bundle of fur. I have been trusted by the owner to do my very best. xx LP xx -
I am sure another solution could have been found by Mr Rebetzke in preference to running to the media. Perhaps Mr Rebetzke could offer to have the anonymous surrenders and after hours strays delivered directly to him. xx LP xx

Just wondering how many sicko's are around? I am quite some distance from Hornsby. We had a dear little puppy brought to us at 7 weeks of age. The owner deemed the pup was aggressive and wanted it destroyed. The owner stated the pup was purchased from a 'breeder' who did not believe in microchipping and vaccination. Thank you to Jill from JRT rescue who helped me heaps with this babe. xx LP xx This puppy is looking for a home, vet work done and all ready to go. A happy, bouncy and very normal puppy and his name is 'Beetle' edited cos I found a boo boo

My dear kittycat - I am definately not Rachelle and many members of this forum can attest to that. You have personal grudges with Mini Paws and this forum is not the place for you to air such. xx LP xx I just dont understand why you are calling me Sarah? I am a guy to start with. I dont have personal grudges, I share concern about this operation as I live in Lithgow and have some people discussing their bad experiences with this place. If I can't express my concerns for the animals without being ridiculed... then delete me. You all just making assumptions and not taking this very seriously. You could all just take this into account, instead Im getting attacked for sharing my view... like the other poor people who have posted their concerns. Oh sarah you have shattered my dreams xx LP xx

Extreme Anxiety After Grooming
lillypilly replied to CathyM's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
A very kind offer Garnali. When I encounter dogs who are frightened on the grooming table I do not clip them straight away. I spend time (often up to a week) playing with them and using an old electric toothbrush. The toothbrush makes a noise and vibrates similar to clippers - end result is a somewhat calmer dog on the grooming table. xx LP xx edited to add - I use this method for my rescue dogs and it works well. -
Miss Daisy is no longer a rescue dog and her status is now a 'boarder'. This little lady sure turned the charm on for her new mummy. She showed how she could sit and shake paws and then did a wonderful display of rolling in the leaves. Of course when she was covered in debris she then wanted her new mummy's attention. Thank you Dogmad as this home is perfect for a wayward poodle girl Her new mummy is going to Fiji for a holiday and will collect Daisy when she comes back home. xx LP xx
