  1. I'm so glad to hear these replies -- that's what my partner and I had imagined happening, but with an overload of information available, I was getting nervous that our new little guy just 'had to have routine'. Thank you so much.
  2. We are only one week away from brining our new pup home, a beautiful ridgeback boy. Such an exciting time... My partner and I are both shift workers, with forever rotating shifts with different start and finish times, including night shifts. We obviously want to prepare him for this as best we can. What have others found in regard to long term dog behaviour when their schedule is always changing? Any advice you can give? PS. Regardless of the shifts we are working, he will be given daily mental stimulation via training, plenty of play time and when he is up to it, (large breed dog) he will always be walked twice a day regardless of our work schedule (and left with plenty of interactive food toys etc).

    Crate Training

We will be crate training our new pup (I believe he has already been introduced to it from our breeder) and was wondering if I should also purchase a separate pen so he can be safely left to not get himself into trouble with the cat, or just general household stuff when we are not with him in the room, eg. Whilst showering, cleaning etc, or should I just secure him in his crate? Will he develop any dislike for his crate if we need it secure him for other reasons other than sleep?
  4. You guys are champions! Thank you so much for all your responses -- I think it's safe to say a forester will be adequate for our new pup. ????
  5. We are eagerly awaiting the new arrival of our new ridgeback puppy, we know he's going to be a big dog, so want to upgrade our 'little car', all for his comfort of course. Does anyone have a subaru forrester and if so, do you think the trunk space will be big enough when he is a fully grown rhodesian ridgeback? He'll be in the back seat probably more than anything, but should some humans want a seat, he'll have to be put in the back area. Thanks in advance. (I can't find any heigh specifications online of the car).
  6. This is our little boy Bodhi. We are so excited. He doesn't come home for another few weeks. He's my first dog ever. Where do you dog lovers suggest taking him whilst he is still undergoing his injection schedule. I want him to be a well socialised dog considering he's going to be so big. Someone said put him in a trolley and walk through Bunnings -- do they allow dogs? (Love the idea of it).
  7. Feeling the love folks. Thank you so much. He won't choke on the turkey necks will he? Is it safe to leave him unattended with these? So glad I'm never having children, imagine what I would be like then!?!
  8. So the general consensus is No Nylabones for teething... :) This is my first puppy... Thank you.
  9. He will certainly be getting plenty of variety, including meaty bones, but just thought for his teething needs, the Nylabones would be a good device whilst he's alone in his crate or in his play area when we're not home.
  10. Counting down the days till our new pup arrives and wanting to get him some chew bones/toys. Because he is a bigger dog, which size Nylabones will be safe/best for him given his weight will more than likely exceed the recommendations of the 'puppy' size. Thanks in advance.
