  1. Well these are mostly solid black. Our experience is that with puppies people pick the merles first and we wanted to avoid that scenario - these are all solid, come from good working and agility lines and we would prefer that the pups pick their people rather than the other way around.
  2. This isn't true. Before there were shelters - unwanted puppies were routinely drowned. Perry's mum - I'm not sure I'm ready for a new puppy yet. I haven't got the mechanics and timing for training the dog I've got. When she reliably goes around the excellent course without stopping to say hi to the judge, and recalls more reliably then I will get a puppy. Tho one way of dealing with my dog not working - would be to train the puppy instead... But there is an Agility SA facebook page you could post a message there to see if anyone is interested. If the post is not ok - it will get removed. Thank you for that.
  3. Koolie rescue has been given a litter of 15 week old Koolie pups looking for new forever homes, donations to our Mobile vets are being asked for, to meet medical needs and ongoing care of these young pups. All successful adopters will be supplied with bank details for direct donations to our Vet. To avoid attracting those who only look at colour no photos will be posted and where possible visits will be encouraged in Echuca to meet and greet the pups to allow the pups to choose. There are girls and boys and they are all solids black, black and tan or one male red and tan. If anyone is interested please PM me.
  4. Koolie Rescue has just taken on a litter of solid colour pure bred Koolie pups which would be ideal for agility and other dog sports. PM me if you are interested.
  5. Koolie Rescue have a couple of nice young boys who are looking for forever homes.
  6. I can also recommend Four Foot Physiotherapy - Louise came to us and Perry just loved her - she also initially trained as a human physio. She did a great job on Perry - her no is 0414 956 417.
  7. Perry is guard dog for the whole street and warns everyone when any strange cars or vans enter the cul de sac, especially the parcel post van because she is convinced the delivery man is looking for an opportunity to murder us all in our beds. She is also very good at looking after the car while I go quickly into a shop. Friskie is especially good as a hand and foot warmer and makes a great hot water bottle on cold winter nights.
  8. Perry is nearly 11 and has suddenly started digging holes in the garden - I think this is her protest against Friskie arriving.
  9. A corgi- Flash Harry - who was about 14 when he started slowing down and 15 when he died. Amber a border collie X was of unknown age but the vet thought she was about 15 - never slowed down and died of cancer about a year after I got her. Perry the Koolie is almost 11 and just beginning to slow down. Friskie the Koolie is 12 1/2 and shows no signs of slowing down. I know some other Koolies who are in their early 20s.
  10. How about an older Koolie - they are smart but not all super active and we have some working failures at Koolie Rescue who are absolute lazybones who like to lie in the sun, are happy to go for a walk but more happy chilling with their people.
  11. Try going out with Koolies - Perry is constantly mistaken for a Border Collie or Australian Shepherd because of her long coat. People have no idea about short coated Friskie who dances on her toes as she walks along - guesses vary from dingo to Dalmatian to Cattledog cross. Very few people have heard of Koolies, even in some country areas. Friskie loves lots of attention but Perry is getting grumpy in her old age and does not want strange children coming up and hugging her.
  12. I have had 3 rescue dogs - one directly from a pound - and none have been a problem that could not be overcome with training. If people are concerned they might be better off getting a dog from a rescue organisation.
  13. Koolies are working dogs but most make excellent pets as well providing they get sufficient exercise for both their brains and bodies.
  14. Koolies have no known inherent health problems and are also long lived. It is not uncommon for them to live to 20.
  15. I recently adopted Friskie, a Koolie whose owner had died. Friskie spent a month in the pound and was then flown from Geelong to Canberra to live with me. Every time I took her out of the house she was looking for her former owner. My vet suggested using an animal communicator to tell her what had happened and once she was told she totally changed her behaviour and settled down here.
  16. Koolie Rescue rehomes all its dogs for free, they are all vet checked, desexed, wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and have any necessary vet work done. Some dogs cost us thousands, others come already desexed and don't cost as much. Koolies are generally pretty healthy. We reckon on average costs of $400-500 per dog including food. Many new owners make donations to cover the costs of the dog and continue to donate, members of the Koolie Club support the rescue, those of us who foster generally cover the food costs and sometimes other costs, and we run a variety of events to raise money.
  17. Koolie Rescue have a few older Koolies who might suit him. PM me if you are interested. The Koolies come free, desexed, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped - he would only need to pay for transport and he can try one for a month and if it does not work out return it. Most Koolies love a cuddle and to be a constant companion.

  19. In my bit of Canberra there are several Koolies, some border collies, kelpies and cattle dogs, a few German Shepherds, a dachshund and a full size poodle. Apart from the dachshund and poodle most of the others are rescues.
  20. I have one of each - Friskie is a snuggler and wants constant contact - a total velcro dog and I would prefer her to be a bit less dependent. Perry is very self contained and independent and I would like her to be a bit cuddlier.
  21. I go to Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital at Waramanga - no idea what they charge for titre tests. They are good but expensive. I have used Kate Millhouse in the past - she is very good.
  22. Amber definitely had a sense of humour. One day a friend, Peter, was visiting and accidentally stepped on her paw - she was not impressed despite his heartfelt apologies and spent the rest of the afternoon lying with her backside towards him and farting. A few months later he visited again and was wearing thongs on his feet, Amber walked up to him, trod heavily on his toes, and sat down with a very satisfied look on her face - a look which clearly said "So, how do you like having your paws trodden on Peter".
