  1. I think we need a photograph of this little champion
  2. Friskie was 14 when she came to me - her previous owner had died and his relatives had dumped her. It took her about 4 weeks to settle in. She has been here 3 years now.
  3. I never wanted kids but have absolutely loved having dogs - I just wish I had done it earlier.
  4. 23C is our limit - too hot for the paws above that
  5. Perry is 12 and Friskie is 15 but Perry is the only one who gets poor old thing comments - not because of anything she does but because she has a lot of grey fur which, being a blue merle, she was actually born with.
  6. I am addicted to Koolies - I love the fact that they are so loyal, like a cuddle, have an off switch, are always ready to do what you want whether it is high energy or loafing around, and I love their intelligence. I like the long coats better than the short although I have one of each. I might consider a border collie but never a Kelpie or an Australian Shepherd.
  7. My number is 02-6296-4321 or you can always PM me. We are now Australian Koolie Rescue.
  8. Australian Koolie Rescue and Down Under Working Dogs are hosting a short course field trial at The Overflow, Canyonleigh Road, Marulan on Saturday 11 October. Sheep levy $10 per run. All profits to Australian Koolie Rescue. Morning tea provided. Barbecue lunch for gold coin donation, soft drinks available for purchase. Enquiries and bookings to [email protected].
  9. Australian Koolie Rescue runs schools at Marulan near Goulburn - contact [email protected] if you are interested.
  10. Australian Koolie Rescue are always looking for foster carers. We do take Koolies back who are not working out or send them to another more experienced foster carer. We usually find homes for our dogs within 3 months although there are always the exceptions. I think most Koolies would be happy with the amount of exercise you are giving your Lab. Koolies are also great at agility. You are more than welcome to come and meet mine (although they are getting on a bit now - Perry is 11 and Friskie is 14) but I can introduce you to some young ones as well - just PM me.
  11. I am 67 and have two active Koolies, Perry who is nearly 12 and Friskie who is 14. I adopted Friskie a year ago when her previous owner died and she has settled in happily here. I have ankylosing spondylitis which limits my mobility but I have an arrangement with neighbours to walk the dogs regularly. I am not expecting these two to be my last dogs but any future ones will also be elderly rescues. Australian Koolie Rescue often rehomes dogs to older people if they can provide the right kind of home and the arrangement is always that their dogs can come back to us at any time. We have just rehomed a 3 year old failed worker who just wants to be cuddled to a retired farmer and his wife who are in their early 70s.
  12. We are very proud to announce that, after considerable time and effort, Australian Koolie Rescue Inc. has been formed in order to support and expand the efforts of Kerrie and Ron Challenger and their dedicated Koolie Rescue team. You are receiving this because you are already a supporter of these efforts to look after Koolies that have, through no fault of their own, fallen on hard times. A limited opportunity exists for you to become a 'Founding Member' of Australian Koolie Rescue Inc. This opportunity expires at the end of October 2014 and is limited to a maximum of 20 places only. Although there is no ongoing membership discounts or benefits for founding members, you will receive a certificate and also your membership number (which will never be issued to another, so is yours for good) will reflect your status. Normal membership numbers will commence at 21. Australian Koolie Rescue Inc has created this opportunity so that we are able to raise the required initial funds to bank roll operations. By becoming Founding Members you will be greatly assisting our efforts in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Koolies across Australia. Cost of Founding Membership is $200 per person or couple. Please contact club treasurer Andy Snape ([email protected]) or Bethany Challenger ([email protected]) via email if you require bank account details. Membership numbers will be assigned in the order that funds are received. We also welcome regular membership subscriptions at this time if you wish to be involved. Regular membership is $25 for single and $40 per couple.
  13. That is true, I saw a red bellied black crossing busy Sulwood Drive last Autumn = he was lucky he was not squashed.
  14. Think about getting a Koolie - they are excellent with children and love to be part of the family. Koolie Rescue has some puppies at the moment which are not quite ready to leave their Mum. Have a look at the Koolie Rescue page on Facebook.
  15. Throwing the ball is how I keep Perry tired and exhausted - a ball throwing machine can be a good investment. In summer a paddling pool can be a good investment. Teaching tricks and hide and seek can also exhaust them mentally.
  16. Me too because neither of mine are into rolling in smelly stuff.
  17. Those markings are very common in solid colour Koolies.
  18. I got mine from K9Pro and they are excellent - ordered some more for my sister's toy poodles.
  19. Aren't they beautiful! I've never heard of them, I'll check them out. Thanks! They also come in solid colours. Koolie Rescue often have young dogs available. You can contact them on 03-5486-5370 or check out their page on Facebook. Both mine came from them. They don't charge for their dogs but most people give them a donation to cover their costs.
  20. I have two - Perry who is 11 and Friskie who is 13. I have had Perry since she was 13 months and I got Friskie last August after her owner died. Perry is the boss and she is not happy to have Friskie around but in reality just ignores her and sometimes tries to get her into trouble. Friskie is a little softie and is very cautious with Perry and stays out of her way. If I have to go out and leave them alone then one is crated.
  21. The amount of exercise you are thinking of is plenty for a Koolie but they also want to be indoor dogs and to be with their people. Shortcoated Koolies have the same temperament but look different - here are some at a recent sheepdog school.
