And here is Perry who is a long coated Koolie - I agree with Kylie that although both our dogs are often mistaken for borders they look different when you put them next to a border. Because Perry is a blue merle people always think I have a border.

Feher it was a horrible accident - nobody was to blame, not you and not the dogs. Forgive them and yourself and let her go.

Thanks Wolfie - I did try calling them once but could not find anyone who knew about herding. Perry is registered with the Koolie Club and she is desexed. i will give them another call on Monday.

Perry and I have been going to classes for 15 months now and she is becoming quite good. We started at Echuca and have been to classes in Binalong, Bungendore, Michelago, Bungonia and Uralla. We still have not done the HIC or HIT because I have absolutely no idea how to organise it for a Koolie who lives in the ACT. Can anyone give me any advice please?

I am sure my lovely Amberdog will be there looking after her. This is such a hard time - Ireally feel for you - it is over two years since Amber went to the bridge but not a day goes by when I don't miss her.

Perry always writes after each sheepdog school to her foster mother, Janine, who rescued her from a farm. Her email is at the bottom of the pictures of Binalong. Perry has been fear aggressive and her behaviour out of the ring has left something to be desired - this weekend Robert decided to let her stay off lead out of the ring and what a difference - she actually initiated playing with other dogs - something I have never seen before. Nobody could be in any doubt that she was happy because her tail was going around in circles. She did pretty well with the sheep too.

Perry failed Intermediate 4 times - she could do everything perfectly in class after the first course but everytime there was a test they sent someone new and during stand for inspection Perry would always jump up and give them a kiss. I could see we were not going to get any where and I was bored out of my mind with doing it over and over so we gave up. Going to sheepdog school is gradually ironing out the other problems with Perry's behaviour and we are both a lot more relaxed.

Thank you all for all your help on this. Perry and I are now safely booked in to a variety of accommodation from a very upmarket B&B to a caravan park and to a farm stay. We are really looking forward to our trip and to meeting the wonderful woman who saved her life and Perry is getting ready to cover her face with kisses. We are going up on the inland route through Mudgee. If anyone in Mudgee or Armidale wants to meet for a coffee PM me.

There is a big sheepdog school that weekend and everything even remotely dog friendly was already booked. I might try the caravan park for the Sunday night - some of the others may have booked out by then. I don't really care how far it is to Gwydir as long as Perry is not freezing and I will just have to make sure that I buy everything we need before I go out there. Now I just need to find somewhere on the way up and on the way back.

Gwydir is where we are staying - apparently it is quite isolated and 55k from Uralla but I don't care - I just want Perry to have a warm bed. I will try George's Creek and the place in Guyra for the Sunday night. Beambolong sounded good but apparently it is closed down.

I agree - I don't call letting a dog sleep in the car in minus temperatures in any way friendly.

Success - a long way out but a bed is a bed and for Perry it will be a warm bed which is the only thing we care about. We are going to stay on a farm at Stony Batter which is an interesting name. Thank you all for your help.

She has not got room - they are renovating (she just had a baby) and are down to 1 bed room at that stage. If I don't find somewhere today I will put an ad in the local paper seeking accommodation for 3 days for one middle aged woman and one well behaved indoor dog.

i shall try that - if it does not work then we just won't go. They keep saying the health inspector will take away their licence but we have stayed in so many places in Southern NSW and Victoria where it was not an issue. I will also try an ad in the local paper looking for private accommodation for the three days we will be there.

The alpaca farm is outdoors only. We want to go that weekend because there is a sheepdog school at Uralla and I want word to get back to the farmer who abused her about what a good worker she is with sheep now.

Any more ideas?

You can get Rescue Remedy in a spray and that is so much easier to use - before I found that I used to put a few drops in Perry's drinking water.

Dali love are dogs allowed inside? Perry is a bit insecure away from home and needs to be near me so she can see me.

The place at Uralla might be a good bet - we are going to sheepdog school while we are there and that is at Uralla.

We are going end June/early July - I thnk it will be too cold for her to be outside - she is an inside dog who likes her bed by the heater.

I want to take Perry up to Armidale to see the woman who saved her from being shot on the farm. Can anyone recommend any dog friendly accommodation where she will be allowed inside? We need not only acommodation in or close to Armidale but also en route. The route I take will depend on the availability of suitable accommodation - basically there is an inland route via Dubbo, a coastal route via Central Coast/Maitland. All suggestions gratefully received.

Perry and I have only just made it to the advanced group so I don't know a lot. Basically she is at the stage where she is comfortable working the sheep and now we are working on shaping her by teaching her to put them in specific places and hold them there. Some of the more advanced dogs took groups of sheep for a walk across the property. Many of you will know that Perry had some behavioural and aggression issues as a result of her life of abuse before she came to me and all I can say is that herding with Robert once a month has turned her into a different dog in less than 12 months. Best of all she loves it and no matter how demanding Robert is of her, she thinks he is god. Of course, she was born to be a sheepdog but all the same there is something wonderful about seeing a dog doing what she was bred to do and doing it well - especially when the farmer who used to have her was going to shoot her for not working . Sheepdog school is just so much fun.
